Krispy Kreme - In Malaysia ... Akan Datang!

When I checked on Krispykreme.com ...
Q: Can Krispy Kreme ship doughnuts to me?
A: We do not ship our doughnuts because we cannot ensure the freshness and quality of the product after it has been shipped. We would not want our customers to receive inferior doughnuts.
Juliansi.blogspot.com: So I guess... we'd have to travel to the Philippines or Indonesia for our fix!

Not any longer ... Look what I spotted at Midvalley Megamall!

Funny ... when I checked on the Malaysian website, I found out that they will soon be opened at Berjaya Times Square!? Mid-April from what I gather ... hmm, the plot thickens!

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 2008 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Corporation Bhd via its 70 percent-owned unit, Berjaya Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Sdn Bhd (BKK), has secured the rights from Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation to develop and operate Krispy Kreme stores in Malaysia.
BKK plans to open 20 Krispy Kreme stores in Malaysia within the next five years with the first store to be opened in Kuala Lumpur by early 2009, said Berjaya Corporation in a statement Friday.
Development will continue in the Klang Valley region before expanding into the other major cities and towns throughout the country, it said.Berjaya Corporation has extensive experience in developing and operating well known international food and beverage brands as it currently holds the franchise for Starbucks Coffee, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Wendys and recently in June 2008 also acquired the Papa Johns pizza franchise.
"The addition of Krispy Kreme will strategically complement and widen Berjaya Corporations existing food and beverage operations," said its chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri Vincent Tan. The business is expected to contribute positively to the future earnings of Berjaya Corporation, said the company in a statement to Bursa Malaysia.
There are about 490 Krispy Kreme stores operating in the United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Wikipedia.com
Krispy Kreme is a chain of doughnut stores. Its parent company is Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD), based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States.
Krispy Kreme sells a variety of doughnuts, but it is most famous for its traditional glazed doughnut, often served warm. Select varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts are carried in many supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. Krispy Kreme doughnuts can also be found in some larger Wal-Mart and Target stores in the United States; Loblaws supermarkets and Petro-Canada gas stations in Canada; and most Tesco supermarkets and Tesco Extra hypermarkets in the United Kingdom.

The founder, Vernon Rudolph, worked for his uncle, Ishmael Armstrong, who purchased a secret recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts and a shop on Broad Street in Paducah, Kentucky, from Joseph LeBeouf of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Rudolph began selling the yeast doughnuts in Paducah and delivered them on his bicycle. The operation was moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and other family members joined to meet the customer demand. Rudolph sold his interest in the Nashville store and in 1937 opened a doughnut shop in Winston-Salem, and began selling to groceries and then directly to individual customers.

Problems! The Hong Kong franchisee of Krispy Kreme went into liquidation on 27 October 2008. The directors had tried to find a purchaser in the previous 3-4 months and have not been successful. Five of the seven Hong Kong stores closed the night before the 27th, with only two outlets at the city's airport to remain open.
