Hok Seng - Delicious Bukit Tinggi tai-chau, Klang

Add: 19, 21 & 23, Lorong Batu Nilam 20A, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang
Tel: +603 3324 5231
Previous review: One week ago!
First visit: May 2007

We like this tai chau ("big fry" or a simple chinese restaurant) near our home ... a lot! Good value, excellent tasting food such as this Sizzling Tofu ... and Ham Yue Fah Lam Poh (Chinese bacon in Claypot).

Mantis shrimp in ham-tan (salted egg) ... and the uber delicious Hak Peh Pai Kuat (Guiness spare ribs). Yummmmms!

Preserved vegetables steamed fish :-)

Pomelo - Limau Tambun, Ipoh

Couldn't resist stopping here on the way back from Ipoh back home to TM for CNY ...

Since when did pomelos become so expensive!? 20 - 25 RM per fruit. Eeeeep! Is it the new king of fruits!?

Chinese New Year - Muhibbah Nasi Lemak spirit!

Gong Hey Fatt Choy, 2012!

In our household, we practise a few CNY traditions year after year ...
1) Tuan Nien on the night before CNY,
2) Visiting my parents on CNY morning,
3) Having Nasi Lemak with all the family on CNY brunch-time, and ...

Delightful Kak Y sambal ... and perfectly and lightly fried ikan bilis and kacang-putih to go with the Nasi Lemak spread.

Achar from mum's neighbour and Kak Y's signature stir-fried tofu dish.

.... Tradition (4) ... As per the usual Si family custom, we headed over to Grand-aunt (SYP)'s family home, for .... more food :-)

Tuan Nien home-made Desserts - Chinese New Year 2012

We were treated to all these wonderful home-made desserts during our family reunion dinner, on 22nd Jan this year :-)

Chocolate mousse ... and Gula Melaka Jelly-cake ...

Lemon meringue and ... Durian cake.

Aunty P's signature cupcakes!

Reunion dinner, Klang - Chinese New Year 2012

Chinese New Year at mum's and dad's ... Tuan Nien or Reunion dinner, evening of 22nd January 2012. Lets start with Yee Sang ;-)

Lovely roast meats ... Duck and Siew Yuk too.

Spicy and tangy assam prawns ... and mum's signature steamed chicken.

Healthy stir fried mixed veges ... and less-healthy, but very Chinese New Year-esque Waxed Meats!

Macallan 21 Years - Chinese New Year 2012

More memories of Chinese New Year from our recent trip home in Malaysia ...

Macallan Fine Oak - 21 Years ... revisited. First time I enjoyed this wonderful brew? Hong Kong :-) with TC, 14 months ago!

Ahh... I still remember ... the Macallan 30 I had in HK. But this 21 was special, very special. Enjoyed on a chilled out afternoon in TC's family home in KL, shared between 3 buddies. Gong Hey Fatt Choy!

Fine cigars over Chinese New Year - Cohiba and Partagas

TC, ET and myself enjoyed a really nice treat on Day 5 of Chinese New Year this year :-) Cigars and fine whiskey!

Partagas - Serie P, No. 2

We didn't savour one, as all of us chose TC's Robustos instead!

And the divine ... Cohiba Robustos. Lovely packaging, and a even nicer smoke! Purchased from Abu Dhabi International Airport Duty-free, I think this cost about RM$1000 for a box of 25. Not cheap, considering AUH has the 2nd cheapest duty-free for cigars anywhere on Earth ... but truly wonderful.

Asus Eee Pad - Transformer Prime

Huh ... what's this, weighing in at under 0.6 kg, with an ultraslim profile of 8.3mm ...

Its Y-man's new toy!! The Transformer Prime ... what a name!
Not quite a laptop, and definitely more then your average tablet ...

The mobile dock offers a full QWERTY keyboard and touchpad along with a USB port while extending the battery life to an incredible 18 hours for all day computing. What I find disturbing about this ... Its so similar in look like a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, but somehow ... it isn't one! Perhaps one can think of it as a fusion of the iPad and the MacBook!

Hendrick's Gin and Satay at home

What does Chinese New Year / CNY involve in our household ...

(1) Good alcohol - My 1st experience with non-Tanqueray / non-Bombay gin, bought a bottle of Hendrick's from Abu Dhabi Duty Free. Cost about 140 AED or RM$110, similarly priced to the magnificent Tanqueray Ten. Here's a nice article from The Star, Malaysia which describes how it is infused with essence of cucumber and Bulgarian rose petals!

(2) Damn good food - Here's some satay that Y-man personally brought over to our home. Slurrrrrps. Perfect with some good whiskey and gin!

(3) Family and friends ... and gambling :-) Photos will not be posted to protect the innocent!

Worth the wait ... this place gets packed at the weekends!
Baby and child-friendly ... Check out the little corner they have for the kids to play, well done Antipodean!

The coffee here is to die for :-)

Our choice of breakfasts did not dissapoint ... Best overall breakies joint in town, quite possibly (But you gotta put up with the crowds!).
