Dad's choice ... sashimi :-) Seems fresh enough!

Mum always chooses her Cha Soba :-)

I was in the mood for some very simple noodles :-) This was at the end of my 1 month trip home, and I had been stuffing myself for 30 days ... so it was time go "simple"!

The damage? About RM$300 for the 4 of us. Pretty good. But the restaurant is slightly congested though, and I was constantly reminded that there were other diners there, not the most romantic of places!

The news? Sept 28th - Nov 15th, 2011 ... The very new shopping mall was closed due to a gas explosion, which surprisingly did not cause any fatalities! It seems they have introduced "extra safety measures" now to prevent similar incidents. They were described to have fitted a brand new gas line with 24 hour suction fans, and a state-of-the-art sensor with auto switch-off, at all the food and beverage outlets in the mall! So ... why wasn't this done when the certificate of operation was granted? And what about other malls!? Tsk tsk ...

Sumi-Ka Japanese Yakitori, Subang

Add: 19 1st Floor, Jalan SS15/ 4, Subang Jaya
Located: Above Umetei Bento House , and alongside Noodle Station
Tel: +603 5632 9312
Opening Hours: 12pm - 10pm

A restauranteur I recently met, who's in the Japanese food business, highly recommended Sumi-Ka ... so we searched Subang Jaya for this restaurant.

Alas, L and I didn't have a booking, so we ended up seating on the balconey, away from the "yakitori" atmosphere where one could observe the preparation and cooking. Somehow, the ambience seating outside was dull, and probably highlighted how plain the food was here.

Lots of fresh cabbage with a simple dressing was served...

We ordered various yakitori / Japanese satay sticks ... including chicken thigh, chicken breast, beef tongue etc.

This is the Uzura Tamago (Grilled Quail Eggs)

Rice ... bland!

I didn't quite appreciate how "loong" aka burnt the Yaki Onigiri (Tosted Rice Balls) was!

Good! Mackerel fish simply grilled.

Brinjal ... pretty decent too.
Alas, I doubt we would return to this place, the pricing was keen at RM$65 for the two of us, but the service was only average, and they sat us outside. Perhaps we should make a reservation to sit inside next time!

Wendy's - Chilli and Burgers at Sunway Pyramid

Located: Wendy's - Near the skating rink, on the same floor as Marrakesh
Tel: +603 5637 1059

"We don't cut corners", interesting square-ish shaped burger. Juicy, fresh and delicious!

Must have! Chilli ala Wendy's. One size fits all ... RM$5.99 (Ordered this ala-carte aka separately). Fantastic, this is what I come to Wendy's for!

L reckons McD's chips are betta, but I think Wendy's is quite perfect!

Perfect.. washed down with a medium sized Ribena. Refreshing! Part of a large-beef burger meal, RM$13.04 in all.

Informative review: Masak-masak.blogspot.com

Owned by Berjaya Corp, they plan to open 10 more outlets this year. Next one is Jaya One, followed by IOI Mall and of course, at Berjaya Times Square where Berjaya has all their franchises housed - Borders, Starbucks, 7-Eleven and Kenny Rogers Roasters
For the franchise in Malaysia, they're serving Quarter Pounders, Half Pounder Double with Cheese and the three quarter pound triple with cheese, fried chicken, fish fillet burger, shrimp supreme burger, spicy chicken sensation, ultimate chicken grill and chicken nuggets. Prices for the burgers range from RM6 to RM15 for the triple while fried chicken is RM6.90 and nuggets are RM5. Sets are also available with soft drinks and french fries.

They also have their signature sides - baked potatoes with 6 different toppings: butter, sour cream, sour cream and chives, chili and cheese, broccoli and cheese and cheese cheese. Chili is also available - minced beef with kidney beans plus who can forget, their yummy milkshake known as Frosty. They have a few flavours - chocolate, vanilla and twisted versions with oreo and m&ms. The twisted version looks like a Mcflurry. A seperate kids meal is also available.

Superb friendly efficient service, clean environment, tasty good, moderate prices ... this is one of my fave "fusion" joints, Pasta de Gohan!

Dellllliiiiicccious ... Meat Hamburg Steak, Spaghetti with Garlic. RM$24.80.
I like that one is presented with a choice of pasta types, as well as garlic v no garlic :-)

Pizza Carbonara, regular. RM$22.80.
Thin crust, rather interesting but I would go for the pastas next time!
Ocha (Hot green tea) was RM$2 each, so the total bill for 2 pax came up to RM$52. Not cheap, but pleasurable!
I noticed the Zwilling / Henkel utensils aka pizza cutter ... Impressive!

Station Kopitiam - Stay far away! Sunway Pyramid

Add: Station Kopitiam - Sunway Pyramid, Lot No. F1.AV.148
Parent company: Teppanyaki Concept Sdn Bhd

Slow, indifferent service and terribly trained staff ... this is Station Kopitiam at Sunway Pyramid! Nescafe @ RM$2.50 ... even this simple drink tasted blah!

The waiter could hardly speak english, let alone describe a drink item on the menu. And when the drink arrived, duh ... well, we didn't think much of this sugared water! Uh, according to the bill, this was fusion tea. RM$4.90.

Rant! The 10-percent service charge amouted to 74 cents, which is 74 cents absolutely wasted!!

Only positive aspect of Station Kopitiam was the panoramic view of Sunway Lagoon!

Located: At the new shoplot opposite Sunway Mentari (opposite Sunway Pyramid). It is directly behind Seven Eleven & the Shell Station. Near lots of buffet steamboat restaurants!

Beware! M-16!!!

Variety of chilli paste! The one on the left was overly sweet, but the propietor told us that many of her regulars actually like it that way ... Hmmm! We did like the "sambal" on the right :-)

Kon Loh Pan Mee (Noodle-type), pretty delicious! Make sure you add the sambal, and voila ... the taste comes alive!

Soup pan mee ("Pull" or kuih variety), I thought this was too bland.
Will stick to Kon Loh in the future!
Found this self-description on the web, at least the restauranteur /propietor is trying her bit to market what is a very popular dish, pan mee!
Since our opening in August '08 in Bandar Sunway, we managed to achieve over 90% customers satisfaction. We have received compliments from customers, telling us that it is one of the best they have ever tasted & they just cannot resist coming back again & again just to taste the pan mee.
What makes our Pan Mee so special ? We made it so close to home cook style, it will bring you fond memories of home & a feeling of satisfaction & sentiments. Our ingredients to go with the pan mee are mushroom, anchovy, minced pork & sayur manis. Our grinded belachan chillie padi is specially prepared to enhance the pan mee for your mouth watering satisfaction. For customers who are chicken rice lovers & have an appetite for rice, you will surely love our tasty steam chicken & flavored rice.
A sumptuous meal will not be complete without having a light dessert to end the meal & a thirst quenching drink for a starter. We serve sweet potatoes, red or green bean soup daily & especially for our customers who have sweet tooth. When you come, ask for our honey logan wintermelon or calamansi sour plum drink. Its only RM1.80 and its simply hmm!
