Money No Enough (1998) - 10th Anniversary Edition

Source: Speedy Video - Original DVD @ RM$19.99

Hard to believe this film was from way back in ... 1998, this has just been re-released as it is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the sequel (Money No Enough II) was released recently too. Simply one of the best films ever produced in Singapore, excellent acting, great Hokkien one-liners, and the references made about life in Singapore is just spot-on!

Director: Tay Teck-Lock
Producer: JP Tan, Hsiao Yu-Hua
Writer: Jack Neo
Cast: Jack Neo, Mark Lee, Henry Thia, John Cheng, Patricia Mok

Described as "A local hit that focuses on the financial problems of three pals looking to get ahead in a crazy, money-obsessed culture. Although a bit amateurish and heavy-handed at times, Money No Enough works as an effective satire of certain aspects of Singaporean culture during the late 90s."

Did you know?
Money No Enough was released in cinemas on 7 May 1998 in the wake of the Asian financial crisis, Money No Enough earned over S$5.8 million and remains Singapore's all-time highest-grossing film. The Singaporean film industry experienced a revival following the success of the film, and it spawned two "copycats"(1999's "Where Got Problem" and "Lucky Number"). And, following the success of Money No Enough, the fledging Singaporean film industry experienced a revival, with a record number of local productions in 1999.

ps - One of my favourite scenes in the show is when Ah Hui proudly shows off his Motorola DynaTAC 8000X! This was the first mobile phone to receive FCC acceptance in 1983! And .. DynaTAC was actually an abbreviation of Dynamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage. Yes, the original "water bottle" or "brick"!
