Taiping Ho Chiak Restaurant, Sea Park PJ

Add: Restoran Taiping Ho Chiak, 22 Ground floor, Jalan 21/19, Sea Park, PJ
Tel: +603 7876 6648

Opening hours: 11am - 9pm (Closed each month, on the third Tues-Wednesday)

I love the decor of this place, both internal and external, with a huge mural of the Taiping Lake, and various other Taiping-esque shots.

Chicken Curry Kapitan (RM$13.80) - Deep flavours, beautiful curry. Wanted to lick the generous helping of curry gravy, slurp!

Omelette with Choy-poh (RM$5) - Simple and delicious!

Kerabu Pucuk Paku with 4A Beans (RM$12) - Very interesting! Ulam-tasting (i.e. tastes raw), and if you are into this sort of thing, I would be surprised if you could find a better variant. Not really my cuppa tea though!

Lor Bak (RM$13.80) - I found this rather tasty, but my Makan Buddy thought it was slightly soggy, and should have been crispier/drier.

Our key complaint of the night ... the Sweet and Sour fish (RM$16.80). The propietor informed us that the fish was fresh, and the fillets were imported, but we felt it was sandy-tasting, and the sauce was far from tasty as well. Poor!

Part way through eating the fish, we just had to tell the lady propietor, who kindly explained to us about the freshness of the fish, and graciously accepted our complaint and even apologised. She then offered us some free dessert to make up for the fish. Nice touch of customer service, refreshing really in this climate of indifferent service. She was genuinely enthusiastic about the food, good job!

Durian cendol and Red bean cendol - Really good!! On the house :-)

Water cost RM$0.60 per glass, and the meal came up to RM$65. We'll be back ... but I have to say that the poor-tasting fish does come to mind! However, reading others' blogs, I hear the tofu is really good, as is another variety of chicken curry. I can't wait to try them!
