Really nice view from this new bar in Bangkok ... The Long Table, at Column Residence along Sukumhvit Soi 16.
Here's the signature 'long table', a pool/jacuzzi, and the funky interior.
Drinks started with a really nice Veuve Clicquot champagne ... It was going to be a good night!
This was the masterpiece ... thanks for the treat :-) THB 15,000 (Yes, RM$1,500! The most expensive bottle I have tasted to date...) . We had TWO bottles!
Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, Vintage 2001.
Incredibly smooth and lives a beautiful taste on the pallet.
Founded in 1972, the winery and home vineyards of Joseph Phelps are located in Spring Valley near St. Helena, on a 600-acre ranch that is characterized by rolling hills, California native oaks, and 160 acres of meticulously tended vines. Long known for his innovative spirit and passion for quality, Joe Phelps pioneered a number of 'firsts' in the early years of the winery. The 1974 Insignia — released in the spring of 1978 — was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label.
The crew :-)
Some research online brought up ...
Long Table, a recently opened dining venue at the Column Residence on Sukhumvit Soi 16, Bangkok is portrayed as the heritage-packed, world's longest-named capital where cutting-edge sophistication and amusing new flavours can be savoured.
Conceived and managed by the team from Bed Supperclub, the 717-square-metre, multi-million-baht restaurant-bar definitely strikes you as being fashionably unique. Just a blink after I pressed the button to the 25th floor, the elevator doors opened to reveal a dimly lit hallway with a wall adorned with a white clay drawing of Hanuman, the mythical monkey from the Ramayana epic, "yawning out stars and moon," as the Thai saying goes.
The sleek hallway led to a glossy black reception counter inscribed with the full name of Krungthep - quite a mouthful. Before I knew it, I was standing in a huge lofty establishment with a floor-to-ceiling glass facade revealing a breathtaking vista of the glittering metropolis.
Every detail of the restaurant, from its engineering system and lighting design to the miniature-scale decoration and brand image, was cleverly calculated and clearly expensive. For instance, above the main dining table and below each dining bed there's a visual display presenting real images from space, while the cluster of low-slung LED lamps above each dining booth cost 100,000 baht.
Just as Bed plays on its "dining in bed" gimmick, guests at Long Table literally share their meal with others - friends and strangers - at a stretched table in the middle of the room. Seating up to 70 diners, it's claimed to be the longest dining table in the world.
At Long Table, the glitteringly colourful panorama of Bangkok is ``around'' you, not ``beneath'' you.
Does the bizarre gimmick work? It seemed to. After all, the long table so far has been the very first section to be fully booked each night.
But if joining a table with someone you're not familiar with is a bit too adventurous, there are other seating styles that should suit your personal preference. You can enjoy your favourite drink by yourself at the counter bar, chill out with friends on the leather sofa, take in the breezy air at the al fresco area or have a relaxed meal at one of the cosy dining booths.
As a bar, Long Table offers a comprehensive variety of beverages, from classic cocktails to house concoctions as well as a decent selection of signature mocktails, from which Dots (220 baht), a blend of apple and cranberry juice, vanilla syrup and smashed dragonfruit, was my favourite. There's also a broad selection of beers, wines, champagnes, cognacs, brandies, whiskies, vodkas, gins, tequillas and liqueurs.
Yet, as a proper restaurant, Long Table's menu was quite limited. The dinner entree pages featured less than 20 items while the lunch menu was slightly larger with almost 40 appetisers and entrees.
All in all, Long Table is currently one of the city's coolest places to dine, drink and hangout at.
