Meal 3 - Teochew Dinner
The piece de resistance meal of our trip to Singapore ... Chris chose Swa Garden in 540 Macpherson Road, Singapore, and this was well worth waiting for!
Wait ... remember to make reservations if you wanna try some of the BEST teochew food bar none ... +65 6744 5009 . It was jam packed with people, but the service was attentive and good.
As you walk in, you will be brought back to ... the 1970s, when this restaurant was first started. We had all the popular dishes, hand-picked by Chris!
1) Cold roe crab - Must eat!
2) Braised goose ('Gor Bak') with beancurd underneath - Rather good
3) Tapioca leaves fried with belacan - I really enjoyed this
4) Ngor Hiang / Lobak - I enjoyed this too!
5) Oyster omelette - Not to my liking
6) Kuay teow stir-fried with Choy Poh - I liked this very much, highly interesting!
AND ... the finale ... 'Or Nee' (or Yam thingy) ... no Teochew meal would be complete without this. Not very sweet, and rather good!
OVERALL ... this restaurant serves some healthy-ish food, and proves that one need not overpower food with sauces and oil to make them tasty. Good stuff!
Thanks for the treat, Chris :-)
