Ah Long Pte Ltd - TGV, Sunway Pyramid

A week after the 12th March Malaysian premier of the long awaited Jack Neo (Singapore) film, Ah Long Pte Ltd, we watched it at TGV Sunway Pyramid (RM$11), on a weekend mid-night screening. Didn't think it was particularly coherent, though it did have its funny moments! Perhaps I was comparing it a little too much with Neo's previous efforts. AND, it seemed to be more like Neo's take and interpretation of MALAYSIA rather then his motherland, Singapore. Highlights, the appearance of the Indian security guard / mall cop (Just Follow Law) and Lao Zha Boh :-)

AH LONG PTE LTD is a light-hearted black comedy about the triad world and the money-lending business. Instead of treating the subject of Ah Longs (money-lenders) seriously, the movie takes on a humorous treatment. Wang Li Hua (Fann Wong) is a member of the Shao He Triad, an Ah Long organisation. She gets an instant promotion after her boss decides to retire. With the help of her newfound dance instructor husband Jojo Fang (Mark Lee) and his henchmen, Li Hua introduces various non-violent measures to handle borrowers, usually with hilarious results. Will she be able to balance between the hullabaloo within her gang and the threat of rival triads? AH LONG PTE LTD is directed by Jack Neo.

I've watched just about all his films, bar 12 Stories and Homerun, and felt that his best efforts must have been Just Follow Law, The Best Bet and I Not Stupid.
