Best Penang Assam Laksa in town - SS2 Pasar Malam

As the sun sets on a Monday evening over SS2, in Petaling Jaya (Across the road from KTZ, Jalan SS2/67) ...

The queues have already formed for what is possibly the finest Assam Laksa in town. We waited for at least 20 minutes, having picked up a plastic tag with a number on it (efficient queueing system, eh! Fair too!) and eventually getting a place to seat on the shared table alongside a drain (It's worth it!!) ...

RM$4 for a small portion, which is rather generous, or add 50 cents more for a larger bowl. Add a further 50 cents extra for more noodles, and RM$1.50 more for "extra fish"! SUPERB! Perfectly balanced, well cooked noodles, delicious broth, and chunky pieces of fish. The customer service with a smile is wonderful too, we like!!

The rather incomparable Wang Chiew was our dinner venue late one evening ... Thanks to A and KT for joining us :-) Beermonster couldn't make it, alas...

Xiong tong Spinach ... bit of soup and vege. Ah ... nice!

Curry tofu ... another signature dish here. Yummy!

Pai kuat wong, always an excellent choice here!

Signature crayfish ... Not as good as on previous nights!

Do make reservations before-hand, you can see they have even prepared a sign that says "FULL" as they are on most nights!

Pangkor Village aka Pang Kor Fish Head, Taman Megah

Add: 59, Jalan SS24/8, Taman Megah, PJ
Tel: +603 7803 6577
Previous write-up: Review from August 2008
Located: Opposite Fatty Crab

Return to what was my family fave restaurant, in Taman Megah, on a cold stormy night...

Average salted-egg crab dish :-( Next time, we shall stick to fish here!

Tool for smashing the shell!
Wrong choice of to-fu ... a little bland. The minced meat to-fu which we normally have is MUCH better!

Signature dish ... delicious as always. Honey Chicken.
Another signature dish ... a small portion of Curry Fish Head. Pretty good, but I have been told it is bettered by the one served at Ara Damansara.
Dipping fried man-tou in the curry fish-head gravy was so good that we ordered TWO helpings of man-tou!

Stir fry veges ... Good!

Kam Heong La La - Average.
Four of us had this meal, and we split the bill of RM$150 between us.

Yippee Cup SS2 - Hainanese Chicken Chop with Rice

Located: Along the same row as Melaka Street, on SS2 (Jalan SS 2/66)
Tel: +603 7874 6899

Perhaps not as popular as when it was at its old location, but drinks are consistently good, and overall it provides a good value meal (RM$25 for the below).

Lychee juice with Nata de Coco - Simply refreshing!!

Chocolate milk with Pearls - Pretty good, L likes it :-)

Hainanese Chicken Chop with Rice - Great value and delicious, but not as good as when I first had it! Hmm, my taste buds are so spoilt with the Yik Mun Tanjung Malim Chicken Chop these days :-)

Such smooth hor-fun, served "kosong" if requested. Here's both the soup and konloh variety.

Crunchy ipoh-style Beansprouts ...

Prawn Wantan - Nearly as legendary as the chicken, just as good!

Restoran Hock Seng Two, SS2 PJ - Curry Puff, Assam Laksa, Siu Pau

Add: Restoran Hock Seng Two, 66, Jalan SS 2/66, PJ
Review: Homi Curry Puff at SS2

This kopi tiam houses a number of decent stalls, including the legendary Homi Chicken Curry Puff ... RM$1.30 of magic, huge curry "paps"!

In the stall directly behind Homi, no relationship to Homi, is Seremban Siu Pau. Yumm ... small, and delicious.

G and E were back from S'pore, and wanted to try our local Assam Laksa. RM$4 from the corner stall at the kopi tiam. It did not dissapoint, but I felt it was nothing like the one I had at Gurney Drive Penang recently.
