Bedouin breakfast and tea - Wadi Rum

More Bedouin style tea, and nicely warmed flat bread :-) Its breakfast time! Obeid's crew even gave us omelettes, yummm.

Here's what the tent looks like :-) This is the "restaurant" tent, we stayed in another tent alongside. The "toilet" and "shower" tent was 10 metres away as well.

This old (and reliable!?) Nissan Patrol pick-up was going to be our ride for the next 4 hours through the Wadi Rum desert :-)

Yes, our new fave breakfast place :-) Very child-friendly too, good quality child-seat, and the staff are courteous, attentive and pleasant.

A savoury Full Arabian Breakfast ... 38 AED. Good stuff!

Express Arabian Breakfast ... 20 AED.

My fave dish here is the Full English Breakfast, 45 AED. Comes with coffee or cappucino or hot chocolate or tea ... fresh orange juice ... large basket of bread and preserves ... and a delicious platter :-) of halal goodies! I especially like that eggs can be prepared in the form of a vegetable omellette.

Skinny cafe mocha, 15 AED or Pure green tea, 10 AED ... take your pick.

Hamburger, 35 AED ... but I much prefer Jones'!

Just a great place to read the papers and chill out ... Can't think of many better places to spend a lazy weekend morning!

Egg tarts at Ying Wah Cafe Char Chan Teng, Mong Kok - Hong Kong

Hi from Mong Kok, Hong Kong!

This is ... Ying Wah Cafe (英華茶餐廳) ... thanks to RF for the recommendation!

Busy, but exemplary customer service, even managed to squeeze bbbbG in there!

Por loh pao ... I like! Egg tart, pretty good too! This is a more flakey version of an egg tart, very much loved by my bro RF, but personally I prefer the biscuit-y (firmer!) type.

Honey lemon tea, steaming hot ... so good!

Panasonic Lumix GF-1 visits Mong Kok, Hong Kong

This is Mong Kok ...

Mong Kok is located within the Yau Tsim Mong District, on the Kowloon Peninsular, Hong Kong. Its known to have the highest population density on Earth! The density here is 130,000 people per 1 square-km!

Known in Chinese as Wong Kok or prosperous corner :-) I seem to think everyone here wants to shop, or sell something, or EAT something!

We had to stop at ... Gong Cha for some bubble-tea :-) I think this great tasting chocolate bubble-tea cost HKD$10. Located at Dundas Street, Mong Kok.

You will see ALL sorts of stuff here ... including coconuts. For weddings perhaps!?

I like the characteristic over-hanging signboards on this street!

Kam Yui Kai or Goldfish market .. located near the MTR station.

Typically HK-style nai-char ...

Good stuff ... Pork sandwich!

Or how about some French Toast ...

LY bravely asked the propietor (who turned out to be really friendly, despite being so busy!) if she could take some photos at the inner-sanctum of the kitchen ...

Some history from westsidestorieshk.com
In 1952, Mr. Lam Muk Hor, also known as the father of 'silky milk tea' opened this food stall and named it 'Lan Fong Yuen'. He came to Hong Kong when he was a teenager. In 1952, he opened up his own Dai Pai Dong in Central Lyndhurst Terrace with his wife and sold coffee and tea.
Mr Lam claimed that Nanyang Old Coffee came famous when Hong Kong experienced the Opium Wars. But during the 50s and 60s, people started to accept Milk Tea. At first, most of them taste bitter since huge kettles are used to boil tea. He explained that it usually takes a long time to boil a huge kettle of tea which causes it to overcooked and also affects the taste of the tea by making it tastes bitter, for a good cup of milk tea, not more than 15 minutes of boiling time is perfect.

Therefore, he asked a tinsmith to make him a smaller copper kettle while his wife made a big loose leaf tea bag using cotton cloth out of a duvet cover. He said a smaller kettle reduces the time of boiling and the tea bag helps to take off the nasty grass flavor from the tea itself. They both contribute in making a cup of good quality and smooth milk tea.

During that period, many workers of the pier came by his stall for milk tea. When they saw him using the 'tea bag' to pour the boiled tea, they were amazed and thought the 'bag' was a brown silky pantyhose instead. Since then, people call it 'pantyhose milk tea'.

Restoran Clan - Tim Sum, Sri Petaling

Add: 140, Jalan Radin Anum @ Sri Petaling, KL
Tel: +6019 382 5455

A very popular timsum place at Sri Petaling, which is off the KESAS highway (Turn off at Carrefour). Thanks to IK for recommending this place, can't believe I managed to wake up in time for this meal!

The signature dish ... Kai Wor Pao. This creation literally translates to "Chicken Nest Bun"!
Best described as a cross between Loh Mai Kai and a Char Siew Pao! It was good :-)

The other timsums were reasonable, though unspectacular!

We washed down the meal with some tea hand-delivered from Hong Kong, Sao Mei Tea or White tea, it was refreshing and so smooth! The final damage, at just over RM$30 was decent value.
