Seats for Monks - Krabi Airport (KBV)

Hmmm, what do we have here? Seats for royalty? I didn't think so...


I took a closer look ... they were seats for monks!


At least 5 other tourists took photos of these seats :-) Heh heh...

Krabi Airport (KBV) serves up some decent Thai food!

Here're some facts I dug up about Krabi Airport or KBV, which is located 15km from the city-centre, could have sworn it felt a lot further then that!

Krabi Airport is a gateway to Thai beach resorts on Had Yao, Ao Nang, Rai Leh and Koh Lanta. Thai Airways operates daily direct flights from Bangkok, Air Asia from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Tiger Airways flies direct to/from Singapore and Darwin.
Krabi Airport is conveniently located on the main highway - Route 4. New international terminal has been officially opened in 2006.

Anyway, here's our lunch before we flew off, don't forget to get some makan BEFORE you go through security scanning, otherwise you are stuck with Black Canyon Coffee! Seems this cafe is run by Thai Air, nice :-)

Alas, the Pad Thai was too sweet, and rather poor!

What's the big deal about Thai Banana Pancakes?

Hmmm... seem to have forgotten what the fuss was all about, perhaps this 20 Baht Krabi street-side Thai Banana Pancake I had was slightly TOO healthy when I told the lady less sugar and no condensed milk!

Simple seafood restaurant in Krabi - Next door to Esan

Located: Next door to Esan Seafood, on the other side of the beach, past the tourist police.

Our online research showed that Esan was regularly recommended by locals as having excellent Thai food, serving a wide range of northern and southern specialities. However, it wasn't opened when we arrived for an early dinner, before 6pm on our last evening in Krabi. So we ate next door ...

Phew... glad they had Khao Niaow Ma Muang (Thai mango with sticky rice), our preferred dessert :-) Slurp, had to feature this first, though we had it last! Heh heh...


Simple is good!


Mmmh... another large bottle of Thai Heineken, fabulously chilled and much needed! 110 Baht? Well worth it!

The fish was recommended strongly, and despite it only costing 250 THB (About RM$25), we were slightly dissapointed as there was a slight bitter fishy taste to it. Nevertheless, the method of cooking with lime and other spices, including fish sauce I reckon, was good.

Pad Phak Luam - Glad I could still remember some Thai, stir fried mixed veges. We enjoyed this, full of "wok hei" or fire!

Best dish wasn't the Tom Yum Koong ...


But in fact turned out to be the Khai Yang (Grilled Chicken), simple tasty perfection!

ps. Overall, the meal came up to about the same price as the smaller dinner we had at Wangsai Seafood the night before. I would say the quality isn't as good as Wangsai, but its a close second :-)

Simple does it ... get a stored value card, and go choose your yummy Thai food. Most dishes here tend to be between 40-50 THB, or RM$4-5. Perfect!


Beef noodles ... or was it pork noodles ... Served with thick/wide hor-fun, nice!


No trip to Thailand would be complete without ... Pad Thai!


I couldn't resist.. my favourite dish in any Thai place ... Pad Thai Moo Sarb (Minced pork with basil and chilli stir-fry!), served with Thai white rice and Kai Dao (Fried egg!).

The perfect Thai breakfast in Krabi - Porridge near McDonalds

Located: Near McDonalds, along Krabi's main beach road. Not far from the Sheraton.

Street-side Thai food doesn't get much better then this breakfast we had ... we could smell the dough, we heard the oil cracking and poppin, we had to get some of these Mini Yau Char Kueys! 2 Baht each, or 20 Malaysian cents :-)


And here's what we ate it with ... 20 Baht worth of Chicken Porridge with a generous sprinkling of shredded ginger and an egg inside that simply cooks in the porridge's heat! Eaten under a straw hut, perfect :-) So gooooooooood! The perfect Thai breakies ;-)

Peter Lehmann Shiraz Wildcard 2006 , Krabi

Paid RM$90 for this bottle of Peter Lehmann Shiraz Wildcard 2006, and it was surprisingly good... Easy drinking, smooth, and full of fruity flavours. This is top-dollar of course as it was room-service price at a Krabi hotel :-) Expect to pay between 5-10 pounds or 10 AUD for it in the UK / Australia.



Wine.com ... The wine has a deep center with a dark red rim. The bouquet shows lashings of classical Barossa Shiraz chocolate and plum aromas, given a gentle life from the well seasoned French oak notes. It is a robustly structured wine, with a mouth-filling, generous fruit clothing its firm muscularity. It finishes firm with powdery tannins. It is a fine example of Barossa Shiraz from a top vintage year.

We were fortunate to find an online recommendation which was honest, on our first night in Krabi, and we had a good meal here. Reasonably priced at 720 Thai Baht (Or about RM$70) for the two of us, including a large bottle of Heineken.

Krabi sunsets, monkeys and more - Thailand

We took a short break to Krabi in Thailand :-)

Krabi (Thai: กระบี่) is a town on the west coast of southern Thailand at the mouth of the Krabi River into the Andaman Sea.
Krabi is now a top destination for beach and islands lovers. Much of the province has been seat of national parks. The topmost destinations are Hat Noppharat Thara, Ao Nang, Railay, Ko Phi Phi National Park. Yet over 80 smaller islands such as Lanta islands,or Koh Lanta, Phi Phi islands - made famous as the ideal location for adventeres, yachtsmen, scuba-divers, snorkellers and day-trippers from Phuket.

Time: 4:40pm - 7:45pm (Delayed landing, 20 mins)
The positive ... Thai Air phoned to ask me to go to the airport at least 3 hours before my actual flight, which was due to depart at 7:15pm. The limo driver got me there so quickly, that Thai actually bumped me up to the earlier flight time, so I was on my way home!
The negative ... Plane had to go on a holding pattern above Sepang, as there were no landing slots available, and we finally touched down 20 minutes late, just past 8pm.

Three weeks later, I was finally on my way home!

Hmmm, the bread roll was served in my coffee cup, there was no other space on the little tray! And the handle of the plastic coffee cup was in my potato salad... uhhh.


Simple but rather delicious meal ... I like the food served on Thai! Chicken in soya sauce, with fragrant rice.


Flying coach, I always ask for the Emergency Exit Aisle seat ... ah, all the leg room in the world :-)

Benihana Japanese Tepanyaki steakhouse, Marriott - Royal Garden Plaza, Pattaya

Yay, the final night course dinner had arrived, and the venue was the Royal Garden Plaza, which is adjacent to the Marriott (Add: 218 Moo 10 Beach Road, Pattaya). Benihana - Japanese Steakhouse, is actually run by the hotel.

Our entertainer cum chef for the night :-), introducing the buffet menu to us. About 700THB, all you can eat (meats, squid, veges, rice), as well as a starter area with soups, sushi and sashimi, AND a dessert area for "afters" as well. Good value!
