Dearest Friends,

We've thank many folks who were one way or another involved in the 5 year creative process of "Finding My Way" Words and Music by Mia Palencia; from producers to musicians but I think the time has arrive where we have to thank God. We thank him for blessing our Mia with a beautiful voice and her songwriting talent and the wonderful opportunity of assisting her to find her way.


The journey of course has just begun and we are truly excited to inform all of you that we are kicking off with a College Tour as well as an MPH, The Guitar Store and Church Ministry Roadshow, all of whom have come forward to give support via performing venues, selling CDs, sponsoring Mia's back-up equipments, publicity and love. Yes, you will see all of us again in action as always, lifting the heavy loads! Also, Jun will be playing the loop to show off his chops.

Double Take, consisting of Mia-Germain Palencia, a 22-year old vocalist, and Roger Wang, a 32-year old acoustic guitarist, is a firm believer in simplicity. With nothing more than a guitar and a voice, the duo presents their music in minimalist arrangements, with Wang expertly handling everything guitar-related, from the bass lines to the chords to the percussive bits, while Palencia grabs attention through her invitingly rich vocals that bring to mind a young Ella Fitzgerald.

Roger describes the history of this Summer Jazz Series III ... "Back in 2005, Equatorial Hotel was interested in incorporating some live music into Flo. So they came up with the Summer Jazz Series idea. Chris Moore of Equatorial contacted us about this. He worked with us before at Concorde Hotel when we did a one-week gig there in 2001. He brought his GM to come check us out at a gig that we were doing. Right after that, they decided that we were the right act for the first Summer Jazz Series. That turned out very good. I guess that's the main reason why we came back for the second one and now the third."

Juliansi.blogspot.com says ... Mia has the voice of an angel and a repertoire to match, great presence on stage and she is versatile enough to switch between Sting to Paul McCartney and blues and jazz, simply MAGNIFIQUE! Roger is the perfect partner, and his mastery of the guitar is apparent ("Magical fingers!"). There were times when I swore there were 2 guitarists in him!

Brought 12 of my friends to Mia Palencia's gig at Flo, Equatorial, on the last night of her 4 night series :-) over the weekend ...


Yarra Burn Pinot Noir (RM$169) - Not too heavy, easy drinking.
Cono Sur 20 (RM$199) - I wouldn't normally choose a Cab Sauv from Chile, but J likes Chilean wine ... so we gave it a try. Decent, but nothing much to shout about!



As always ... Mia was magical. A stunning voice, with equally good song-writing, and a fantastic accompaniment band, including a flutist and bassist whom I admire.


All my gang got a copy of her new album ... Finding My Way. It's good :-)

We'll always have the album to remember the gig by ... :-)

We had ... Turkey Flat Cab Sav ($150), Evian Water ($11), Haagen Daz Choc and Vanilla ($23 for 2 scoops).

Mia Palencia ... Bedroom Musician Series 8

This was the 8th installment of the Bedroom Musician Series, which showcases the newest and bestest songwriters in our country. And Mia was there as well!

Once again, it was held at Equatorial Hotel's classy lounge, Flo. The acoustics and sound engineering here is actually rather good, and everyone gets a decent view of the stage.

The first set consisted of Automatika (from Shah Alam!), the excellent Rashdan Harith, and finally Bobby from Sabah.


And then it was Mia's turn for the second set of the night ... she sang her beautiful numbers including the divine SAYANG, before she crooned some fantastic Christmas Carols... and then she even moved on to a tribute to Bon Jovi (Living On a Prayer!!) ... and even sang the Blues. What a night!

Haha, I love Mia's guitar strap!

Ps. This wouldn't be a food blog if I didn't comment on the makan and minum of the nite ... The chicken from Jap uber-restaurant Kampachi was supposed to be rather good, and I did really enjoy the RM$170 M3 Chardonnay (2005 this time round ... last time I had it at Cilantro it was the better 2002 vintage).
