Reem Island - Our favourite makan place in Abu Dhabi!

Directions / Map of Reem Island: I found one here!
Nearest landmark: Abu Dhabi Mall
GPS: 24°29'30.6"N 54°24'6.7"E
(Updated! June 2010 - Thanks to an anonymous Dubai reader!)

We love Reem Island Cafe, thank goodness for Malaysian cafeterias here in Abu Dhabi! They serve dishes, eg. Stir-fried Tofu ... but also other "single meals" as you will see from the below.

Mmmmh, yummm ... Belacan fried rice with Fried chicken ... and one of the best dishes here, Sweet and Sour Chicken with Rice, topped off with a fried egg (18 AED + 2 AED).

Hokkien meehoon-mee, one of my fave dishes here, good enough to feed one and a half persons :-) 18 AED. Love the sambal/chilli sauce it comes with. Mmmh, I always have the Barley Panas here too, 3 AED.

Individual set dinner, aka Tip Tau Fan. In this case Black bean beef, with Rice at 18 AED. Topped off with a fried egg, 2 AED.

One night, I decided to have the Sizzling Beef instead, served on a Hot Plate, aka Teet Pan Ngau Yuk. 29 AED, but really its enough to feed two, but I was hungry. Really! So verrrrry good :-)

And a dish which may not be available every night ... Claypot / Mushroom Chicken with Rice. Pretty good too!

New York Fries - NYF at Khalidiyah Mall

What does 26 AED or RM$24 buy you in Abu Dhabi?

New York Fries meal ... Hot Dog with all the trimmings, help yourself to onions, tomato bits, green chili (Reminds me of kon loh mee!!) and mushroom slices too.

And their signature ... French fries, I had it with minced beef, sour cream, cheese and spring onions topping. Slurpssss! Oh yah, it comes with a drink too.

Driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi

Time to leave Dubai :-)

The 120km drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi ... Saw this nice Mk V VW Golf GTI zooming along. Hmm, that's a speed camera he is about to pass at 150km/h! No worries... they don't fire unless you hit 160km/h, or so I am told!

Syeikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway ...

You tend to see many Toyota and Lexus Land Cruisers along the way!

Yas Island exit ... I thought of the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix F1 race which is on this weekend in Sepang!

Taking the turn-off at Saadiyat Island saves me at least 10 mins, cos' it takes me directly to Port Zayed area :-)

After an hour and five minutes, you get your first glimpse of the Abu Dhabi skyline :-)

Back on the Emirates Par 3!

Different styles of putters :-) Ping Broom-handle or Titleist Scotty Cameron Toe/Heel. Take your pick!

This is my Friday morning round at Dubai's Emirates Par 3 :-) 110 AED for the round of 9 holes.

It was a struggle of a round, I was behind a huge boulder TWICE in the round. Nearly got killed on the first attempt, phew!!

The guys played much better then me :-)
Some rare photos of me on the course!

Malaysian Embassy of Abu Dhabi hosts a Pasar Malam

Living in Abu Dhabi ain't so bad when the Embassy of Malaysia along Al Saada Street 19 hosts events such as Pasar Malam's :-)

Sambal chicken

Nasi Ayam Melayu, 15 AED me thinks...

Meehoon Goreng, 10 AED

Nasi Lemak, 15 AED

Shot of Karipap's just before I devoured them! 4 for 10 AED.

I cook ... sometimes!

I am sure many think I simply eat out, or am cooked for ... well, sometimes, just sometimes ... I do cook. My "specialty dish", Pad Kaprao Moo Sarb (Aka Chilli and Holy Basil stir-fry ala Thai, in this case with minced pork).

Thanks to wifey for the Steam minced pork recipe she sent me all the way from TM :-)
Ah, simple, quick and extremely deliiiiiish :-)

Shawarma Monster likes Lebanon Flower Grill!

I am sometimes called the Shawarma Monster :-)
The best ... Beef Shawarma here! 6 AED, or RM$4.50 of lip-smacking goodness ...

Gong xi fa cai from Meena Cafe!

Memories of CNY 2010 from Meena Cafe , Port Zayed ... our OTHER favourite Malaysian cafe :-)

Home made nasi lemak - Thanks!

One day, on the way home from work, KCL gave me a call ... and voila, this was waiting for me!

Mmmmh... delicious :-) I love home cooking!

Jamie Oliver should stick to television!

Was lazy one day ... so I thought I'd give some instant pasta sauce from TV chef Jamie Oliver a go ... Fragrant Sweet Red Onion and Rosemary Pasta Sauce. Reasonably priced at 12 AED, or RM$10 me thinks.

Verdict? Overly sweet, and yet blahhhh... bland! I miss bbG's pasta sauce!

This made up for it, bbG had left some Beef short ribs in the freezer for me ;-)

KFC hits the spot ... sometimes!

Just what the Colonel ordered ... one night!

Hot and Spicy KFC, a bun (Not half as nice as the ones served in Malaysia!), some soggy chips, coleslaw which was rather good ... This is a 20 AED (RM$18) Dinner Plate meal for me! Can't be too choosy here in Abu Dhabi lar!!
