Warisan Asli Malay Restaurant, Klang

Warung Warisan Asli - 30 Lorong Batu Nilam 3d, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, 42000 Klang
Telephone - (Hmm, the DIRECTOR'S number is listed, how odd! +6012 2788 206)
Interestingly decorated place, sort of like a kampung house with lots of woven textiles ... The food was rather good too!
1) Nasi Lemak Kukus Ayam Kampung ($8.90)
2) Bi Hun Goreng Warisan ($5.50) - YUMMY
3) Telur Bungkus ($4.50) - YUMMY
4) Sotong Goreng Lada (100 grams - $5)
5) Tomyam Campur ($6.90) - Still doesn't compare with Santai's (TTDI)
6) Air Sirap Limau ($1.90) - Didn't quite like this
7) Limau Ais with Lychee ($2.90) - Slurrrrrrrrp!
8) Hot Milo ($1.90)
9) Fruit cocktail with Ice shavings ($4.90)
With service charge in, the total was a reasonable $47.

Qi Xiang Noodles, SS2 in PJ

Interesting menu at this restaurant located between Legend Hi Fi and Public Bank in SS2 ... Very yummy lamb stew. Good tasty hand-pulled noodles too.
Have to admit we went to this place cos' it was convenient :-) and it was a rainy day ... and felt bad for the proprietors who never seem to pull many people in to eat! Especially compared to the choc'a'bloc/packed/incredibly busy Murni Mamak down the road. I am glad we gave it a go ... food's worth eating!

Tim Sum at Hong Kee, Damansara Jaya

Good timsum, rather good value too at just 34 bucks for me folks and myself. Yummy! Highlight was the Sang Chow Loh Mai Fan (Glutinous rice), fantastic flavour.
Add: No 18 & 20, Jalan SS22/25 , Damansara Jaya , 47400 Petaling Jaya.
Tel: +6012 606 9787
Opened: 7.00am to 3.00pm daily (Go on the weekends, as the loh mai fan is only available then! But be prepared to wait .. long queues. And the parking is rather challenging too, gotta double park most times!)
Pricing is a little odd ... They come around to your table after the meal and just count the plates, no 'writing down' as the food is served to you like in other timsum places. Nevertheless, good value and they seem to know what they are doing!

Also really enjoyed the Woo-Kok, Fried Beancurd, Egg-plant (Aubergine) Yong Tau Foo. Tasty!

The chee-cheong-fun (prawn) and siu-mais / har kao were OK. Nothing to shout about though!

Dad found the porridge rather lumpy and too thick ... and I thought the egg-tarts base was too hard and not crispy enough, as well as being too sweet.

Kia Carnival 'Pesta'

Kia Carnival ... 'PES74' = PESTA = Malay for ' carnival ' ... cool eh! Spotted in Damansara over the weekend.

Prince Cafe in SS2, PJ

Prince Cafe - 58&60, Jalan SS2/67, Petaling Jaya.
Telephone - +603 7874 3995
A popular eatery serving Kim Gary style HK-western food in the heart of SS2 ... 'Maggi' Mee goreng here is fantastic! Its actually called a 'Nissin Pork Dices noodles' ($8) and is full of flavour, smells divine too. Found the Red Bean Snow to be rather sweet (and get one for 2 to share, its big. $6), as was the Summer Tea ($3.80). At least that was served in a rather interesting 'boot' glass! Also had a fresh orange ($6) and an indistinct Iced Green Tea ($3).

Nasi Lemak at Tanjung Puteri, Hartamas

Nostalgic 60s memorabilia (Note - P Ramlee et al) surround you, both on the walls as in the piped music, as you enjoy your nasi lemak at this Malay hawker in Sri Hartamas ... Located near the traffic light junction for Desa Sri Hartamas/KLGCC/Jln Duta.
Interesting selection of sambals but the dim lighting means I couldn't tell which was what, anyway it was still good! As was the fried meehoon and the sirap-limau (Thanks Map!).

Golf GTi ... Wet?

Spotted at SS2 in PJ last night ...

Golf at Kajang Hills

Located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, off the KL-Seremban Highway ... its one of Malaysia's nicest golf courses, Kajang Hill. Not easy = I shot 108 :-( but managed 2 pars along the way (Played magically for first 5 holes on the Front 9) ... and not cheap! $182 including buggy and insurance. Played with Paul (110) and Cheik (102 - Played really well).
At least our team won the Paul-Cheik-Julian v SooKa-Jeanette-Pete competition!

Kim Gary, Plaza Damas

Pre-golf Lunch today ... This branch of Kim Gary is located at Plaza Damas, on the 'old' side of Sri Hartamas ... I was admiring Pete's TOMATO CHICKEN RICE ... And found my spaghetti with curry ham-sausage-chicken rice to be damn (spicy) hot! This was part of a set, so I also got to enjoy the Borsch soup and a Fruit Milk Tea.

Simple meal ta-powed home from work

Some food I ta-powed home from my work cafe ... Cost $6.20 for all the below, Fried Chicken with a little rice, Curry Chicken and Telur Goreng Masak Kicap. Good simple meal!
Hey ... it's FRIDAY!

Murni SS2 Mamak, PJ

The mantra of the folk who take your order at this very famous and packed SS2 mamak ... " Apa pun ada " aka " Everything Also Have " .
This mamak along Jalan 2/75 in the heart of SS2, near to Legend LCD TV and Hi Fi shop ... its PACKED all day long, with tables that reach out to the road side and as far as outside Public Bank! We were there when the Bandaran (Council) decided to confiscate all tables, but seems the restaurant paid them off $3 per table to 'move on ...' .
The highlight for me were the drinks ... Ice Blend Ribena with Nata De Coco, and Lychee ... The orange juice was real good too!

Other dishes ranged between the yummy (Mee Hoon Goreng), the Loh See Fun was overcooked and burnt at the base of the claypot, and the Special Chicken Chop with black-pepper sauce was good. The spaghetti bolognaise was rather dissaponting .
Final damage? 35 bucks for all this, and more!

Wang Chiew in Sea Park (PJ)

Wang Chiew is just a REALLY YUMMY eatery ... 'Tai Chow' type place in a clean air conditioned environment, tucked away in the Sea Park area of SS2. Good value as well, all this food for the three of us, at under 50 ringgit. Everything was yummy ...
The signature-dish Crayfish in oatmeal, the fantastic Fried rice (try it with pickled green chillis! Mmmmh...), delicious Curry To-fu (Do look out for the egg which lines the bottom of the dish!), very appetising Pork Ribs / Pai Kuat Wong, and French Beans in Belacan.

Secret Recipe, SS2 (PJ)

Quick pre-dinner bite at Secret Recipe in SS2, PJ ... Cornish chicken pastie (Very yummy!) and a nice (but too small) Orange Juice sans ice/sugar.

Pacifica, Mandarin Oriental in KL

A lavish work dinner to welcome some key visitors at Pacifica Bar and Grill in the posh Mandarin Oriental, in the heart of KL next to the Twin Towers ...

Interesting starters, followed by a yummy steak (or sea bass), followed by a rather sweet dessert. Food was average, but well presented I have to say! And the private room was really nice.

One Noodle, SS2 PJ

One Noodle (owned by the KTZ / The Frutti Stall enterprise) is located at 66-68, Jalan SS2/67, PJ. Adjacent to Prince Cafe. Tel: +603 7877 8499.
(1) Sah Wan Beef La Mien ($10.80)
(2) Deep Fried Beancurd ($8)
(3) Szechuan Egg Plant ($12)
(4) Chef's Congee ($6.80)
(5) Iced lemon honey ($3.80)
(6) Green tea/ocha ($2)
Hey... they charged for the starter, 'japanese' style squid at $3.
Total for the rather good meal was just under $55.

Secret Recipe ... Lemon Cheesecake

Simply divine!

Wen + How - The Wedding (Dinner)

Wen and How's grand wedding banquet for 500 pax at The Legend Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Calming our nerves before the emceeing duties began ... a nice stiff Cordon Bleu! (Thanks, Cheik!)

Toasting the bride and groom, Cordon-Bleu-in-Largest-Glass-in-KL style!

Of course all of us had to have a go , or two ... :-)

And the night ended with a couple of drinks at MONKEY BAR in Legend Hotel ...

Wen + How - The Wedding (Funny video!)

Here's how How managed to get access to Lynette ... Well done Heng-Tais for making it through all the Chee-Mui challenges!

Wen + How - The Wedding (Morning)

Wen (Lynette) and How's Wedding
Petaling Jaya
Saturday morning , 22nd September 2007

Preparations of the drinks the boys will have to consume in the Mok family kitchen ...

Its time for the customary battle of wits ... Chee Muis v Heng Tais , aka Gals v Boys.
First, 11 boys had to down 33 cans of Carlsberg ... Then, it was time to profess ones' love to a PAPAYA ... and finally, gulp down 5 very different ... very horrible drinks!

Finally ... the boys made it through, after a sing-song by How ... he got to see his bride!

The tarts prepared by the Mok sisters were so yummy!

The bride and groom arrives in their chariot at How's home ...

The bride arrives!

The tea ceremony for How's parents ...

The lunch buffet organised by How ... Yummy!

'Amy' Yip Chee May Tai Pao, Subang

Where? Was in Subang area when we noticed a mobile stall selling ... Tai Paos!
Huh? When we asked the uncle, did you get permission to use Amy Yip's namesake in the Tai Pao (Yes, its huge!) he said "YES LAH" ... Yeah, right!
Who's she? Amy Yip Chi-mei (born June 10, 1967 in Hong Kong) is an actress whose lithe frame and disproportionately large breasts made her one of the leading sex symbols of the Hong Kong cinema in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
How was it? Average tai-pau with lots of ingredients including chicken and pork, but not enough crunchy veges which I love in a good tai-pau. The kaya-pao was poor though, too sweet and had so little kaya stuffing.

Twinings v Dilmah tea ... Blind test

English Breakfast Tea :-) taste challenge ... Surprisingly ... I preferred the Dilmah. Stronger and more robust in flavour. Remember the original tea blind test challenge on my blog?

The battle goes on commercially...
Lagging far behind Unilever’s Lipton brand in the global marketplace, Sri Lanka’s Dilmah Tea is leading Lipton and everyone else in innovation, reports Eric Ellis in Fortune (7/23/07). Dilmah isn’t exactly tiny — with $500 million in sales in 93 countries — it is actually tied with Tetley for third place, behind Twinings. But its creativity in a niche known as "curiosity teas" seems to be catching on. For Dilmah’s customers, the curiosity is tea that’s positioned like "fine wine. Its elegant packaging is heavy with wine iconography: descriptive labels equating a robust black tea to a shiraz, or a fine white leaf to champagne." Predictably, Dilmah’s rivals scoff.

Pork noodles etc at Kum Chuan, Subang ... Yummy!

Once again, breakfast at ... Kum Chuan coffeeshop, Subang ... On the road leading out of Subang to Summit / Kesas highway.
Dammmmmn good pork noodles, that deserves a place in my HALL OF FAME! It was so good we ordered it TWICE ... Once with kon loh loh-see-fun, and the second time with kon loh hor-fun. The pork soup which accompanied was divine ... full of flavour. Each kon-loh noodles and pork soup combo cost RM$3.50 each.

The other stuff wasn't as good (Pity the ROJAK was closed , it's delightful!) ... The Kon Loh Mee was a little dry though the sauce was done well, and the Chicken Rice was average (Pity the char-siew was dry).

Hot Dog Ramly-style at SS14, Subang

Whilst waiting for my RM$9 car wash at Mobil in Subang's SS14, I couldn't resist ...
Fantastic Hot-dog at SS14 in Subang, Ramly-burger style ... $2.50 for a 'special' which means you get a hot-dog wrapped in a delicious pepper-paprika-sauce seasoned omellette. Yes, its' THAT good!

Orphanage visit in Banting ... Buka Puasa

A community-outreach visit organised by the Community and Recreation Club of my company, to an Orphanage in Banting, Klang ... 15772, Jalan Johan Setia, Off Jalan Langat, Kampung Johan Setia, Klang. Please call +603 3324 7558 if you would like to visit or contribute. They are raising funds (Half of RM$1 million raised so far) to build a community hall, as well as to expand the capacity of the hostel. This orphanage (Poor children who have lost their fathers) is well organised, hospitable and has big dreams, do support generously.

The food at this Buka Puasa on Friday, 21st September, was scrumptious ... From the Bubur Lambuk (Porridge with beans, prawns and chicken) to the Ayam Masak Merah and the very tasty Daging Masak Palembang.

Here are more photos of the worthy and fun evening, when we gave out 'ang-pows' to the kids, WELL DONE to all members of BPB who contributed so generously to the cause!

Fried rice ... Restoran Swee Foo, Klang

Located near Bandar Botanic ... Another start-up :-) Seem to like going to start-ups these days! Good service, clean restaurant, and FRIED RICE WITH LAP CHEONG that was hot (Temperature-wise) ... nice!
Also couldn't resist getting a Tai Pao (which was good too!) and a Loh Mai Kai. $9 for the lot.

Bak Kut Teh - Restoran Ah Hong, Klang

Ng Ming Hong (Tel: +6012 318 8313) is a new BKT propietor in Bukit Tinggi, Klang ... gotta give start-ups a chance lah, so I ta-powed this for a dinner ... Located at 16, Lorong Batu Nilam 1D, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, 41200 Klang.

Found the BKT to be too salty, but overall it was OK, espesh with the Yau Cha Kuay we had brought across :-) The Dry BKT was nice though ... full of flavour, with a slight chilli-kick!

On to the BLIND TEST ...
Could easily tell the difference between the KL variety that was brought across and the Klang one ... however, I didn't have a favourite. That honour would still go to Teluk Pulai , but of course!

And for dessert ... Durian Mooncake. Nice!

Tiffany Woof Woof

Tiffany aka Fatt Choy ... What a cutey :-)

Chef Loong in SS2, with Rhona

Supper with Rhona et al at Chef Loong in the SS2 square, PJ ... Rather good desserts.
Chef Loong is located at 86, Jalan SS2/60, Petaling Jaya.
Telephone: +603 7877 4826
What we had ... Winter melon ($5.60) , Mango Sago ($4.50) , Red Bean ($3.80) , Steamed Egg ($3.80) , Steamed Fungus with Hasma ($6.50) , Durian Pancake ($4.50) , Sesame Ball ($4.20) ... all in all, $38.40 for the 5 of us.

My favourite ones were the Durian Roll and the Steamed milk egg.

The other suspects ...

It's Bumblebee ...

Look what I saw at Xian's ... Nice eh! Anyway, check out my movie review of one of the defining films of the year!

Wikipedia has everything! ... Here's a bio of the Original Mk 1 Bumblebee!

Bumblebee (known as Bumble in Japan) is the "little brother" of the heroic Autobot faction, constantly striving to prove himself in the eyes of the taller, stronger robots that he respects - especially his leader, Optimus Prime. So strong is this admiration toward others, he takes risks that put him in danger. Although a bit of a wise-cracker, he is a capable and reliable messenger and spy, his small size allowing him to go places that his larger comrades cannot. He is highly fuel efficient, has great visual acuity, is particularly adaptable to undersea environments and transforms into a Volkswagen Beetle. He was later reconstructed in a stronger, more mature form as Goldbug.
Bumblebee is established as the smallest of the first year Autobots, but his actual size varies greatly in the various media, ranging from the same size as other Autobot cars to barely taller than a human. His only official height was in an early issue of the Marvel comics where it is stated he is 15 feet tall.

IKEA ... Buka Puasa (Break Fast)

Went to IKEA in Mutiara Damansara for some stuff and to have an ala-carte (ho hum...) meatball meal, but lo and behold ... their entire restaurant had been converted to a BUKA PUASA (Break Fast) BUFFET .. for the princely sum of $16 a head, one could eat all the rendang, ayam masak merah, meehoon, veges, desserts and a variety of drinks! Not bad at all...

And on to the desserts ...

Padi Enriched Air .. Well done!

Well done Jo :-)

What is it? Well lets see what Wikipedia says ...
Nitrox refers to any gas mixture composed (excluding trace gases) of nitrogen and oxygen; this includes normal air which is approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, with around 1% inert gases, primarily argon. The most common use of nitrox mixtures containing higher than normal levels of oxygen is in SCUBA diving where the reduced percentage of nitrogen is advantageous in reducing nitrogen take up in the body's tissues and so extending the possible dive time and/or reducing the risk of decompression sickness (also known as the bends).
AND,
Nitrox is mainly used in scuba diving to reduce the proportion of nitrogen in the breathing gas mixture. Reducing the proportion of nitrogen by increasing the proportion of oxygen reduces the risk of decompression sickness, allowing extended dive times without increasing the need for decompression stops. Nitrox is not a safer gas than compressed air in all respects: although its use reduces the risk of decompression sickness, it increases the risk of oxygen toxicity and fire.

Snack at Petaling Street

Sort of like sat-keh-mah ... Found at Petaling Street , nice sticky , gooey and crispy . Yummy!

Mooncakes from Singapore

Garden Bakery ... Aljuneid, Singapore
Thanks Stanley! Interesting mooncake with flakey, light, crispy pastry!

Beef Curry Noodles, Sun Fatt Kee (Sea Park, PJ)

Sublime beef noodles in curry (Great broth, fantastic tender beef ... but not cheap at 5-6 bucks! Hey, its worth it!) ... Thanks mum! The sambal packs a great whallop, not too hot, but certainly brings out the flavour ... BRAVO!

Fish Ball Noodles, Pek Seng in Puchong

Really good Fish Ball Hor Fun Soup in Puchong one breakfast time this past weekend ...

Washed down the meal with some Teh Si (Yes, my surname!) ... aka Tea with Milk / No Sugar.

Car plate ... TRIO !

TRIO3 ... Cool eh! Spotted on a Kia mini-MPV in Port Klang on the way to work ...

99 Steak and Chops, TTDI

99 Steak and Chops is located at Persiaran Zaaba, TTDI
Its along the same row as Perodua / Porto Romano / Canadian Pizza ... There's a Shell Station at the end of the road as well. Damage for all the below food was under 50 bucks. Must return again!

Creme de la Creme ... Ribena Lychee (Large size ... cos' it is so damn refreshing! $6.50) ... Honey Lemon 'hot' ($2.90) ... Hainanese Style Chicken Chop divine :-) @ $10.90 ... And, the French Onion Soup ($5.90).

OK tasting, but no where as good as the previous dishes ... Both of these were rather bland ... Grilled Chicken Chop ($11.90) , as well as the Thai Style chicken Pasta @ $9.90 (Asked for Angel Hair, got Spaghetti instead ... gotta speak slowly and clearly with the Myanmar-ese waiters, they provide good service but need to improve on their order-taking!).

Ah, this is one we didn't order ... Grilled Fish , looks OK I guess. So we sent it back, after I 'shot' the dish for me blog of course.

Tropicana Curry House, Rhiana Green

Rather good curry found at Rhiana Green...

Toilet seat ... Very high tech!

Only the Japanese can think of such a high-tech toilet seat ... as seen at Ninja Jones in Northpoint. Bunny says the one in the ladies' can even whistle and play water-gushing sounds, so as to 'mask' any (ahem!) strange embarassing noises ...

Ninja Jones (Japanese) ... with The Bunny

Welcome to KL, Jan :-)

Ninja Jones, Northpoint ... Adjacent to Midvalley Megamall.
Located at A-G-5, Ground Floor, Northpoint, Mid Valley City, 1 Medan Syed Putra Utara, 59200 Kuala Lumpur

Shuriken Set ($56)

Wagyu Beef Steak Set ($52)

Foie Gras Teriyaki Steak ($48)

Shuriken No.1 Special ($16 each)

Pistachio Ice Cream ($8 ... This brought the meal total to $225)

Dome Cafe, Subang Parade

The Twister is their signature 'coffee blend' drink ... rather good. The pastry was good too ... a peach danish.

Golfing at KGPA

Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam ... " Malaysia's Second Hardest Golf Course " ... I agree! Shot a poor 54 + 57 on a cool Saturday, played with Ka, Jeanette and Giok.
Highlight? Sure there was ONE! On a par 3 over a ravine, I duffed the 6 iron tee shot to 3/4 way down the ravine ... Opened up the face of my Sand Wedge, and lobbed the ball up to the green , ending up 3 feet from the pin. And one putt :-) for a PAR SAVE!

This is the daunting FIRST TEE at Forest ... Many of the tee off areas are elevated, and I mean elevattttted! HIGH UP ....

Jeanette ...

Ka ...

Giok ...

Noticed this in our buggy! Heh heh :-)

The sun set as we finished our round at 7pm ...

What a breakfast ... Kaya toast, Chicken Rice AND Nasi Lemak too!

Eng Ann, Klang is the home of one of my favourite kopi tiams ... I'll let the pictures do the talking! Excellent! The bonus is this place brings back nostalgic memories of growing up not too far from here .. Here is my breakfast spread today, my favourite things all combined into one meal!
(1) Nasi Lemak - Definitely one of the best there is.
(2) Kaya toast - Good, a must have for the 'complete breakfast'
(3) Chicken Rice with Char Siew - This aunty has been here for as long as I remember, a friend of my mum's. She prepares succulent chicken (and good charsiew too) with a delightful gingery-garlic oily sauce. Creme de la Creme!

Transformers ... Beware!

An ExhaustBot !? Spotted in Shah Alam today!

Prices in Klang v PJ ... Hokkien Mee!

Check out the price differences in Klang v PJ!

Excellent Satay near Restoran O&S

Sea Park PJ area ... Hmm, I think this kopi tiam is called Millenium 84 or something. Nice marinade in the Satay, good kachang sauce, and excellent ketupat. The Hokkien style Yee Mee was really good too, accompanied with pickled green chillis.

Kopi tiam in Klang Jaya ... so darn cheap!

I gotta get the name / directions to this kopitiam opposite Bukit Tinggi, in deepest darkest Klang Jaya one of these days ... been frequenting this place a lot (Originally recommended by Neomi, who told me how good the A-Pam here was!).

Char Kuay Teow is good ... Pork-less as well. Only $3!

And the item that draws me back time and again ... excellent NASI LEMAK ($4 including the chicken and sotong), great rice and superp 'lauks' (side dishes) such as the Rendang Chicken and Curry Chicken ($2 - I added this towards the end of my meal!).

There is also a fried noodle place at the back of the kopitiam, where we tried the Fok Khin Chau aka Hokkien Noodles ... $4 for all this, amazing value, and good too!

Oh My God, They Killed Kenny...

Thanks, Stan!

And some interesting facts from Wikipedia ...
Kenneth "Kenny" McCormick is a fictional character in the animated series South Park. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, he first appeared in the short films both entitled The Spirit of Christmas in 1992 and 1995.
Kenny is one of four central characters in the show, all of whom are young boys growing up in the small town of South Park. He was taken off the show in season 6 when he had a more serious death in season 5 but he later returned at the very end of season 6 and he has been back ever since.
Kenny is most famous for dying in nearly every episode in the first five seasons of South Park but now his deaths are rare in later seasons. He is voiced by Matt Stone, although Mike Judge provided his voice in the feature film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
Kenny is the most knowledgeable of the group when it comes to sex, and he is usually portrayed as the most perverted. Often when an unknown sexual term is introduced to Stan, Kyle and Cartman, Kenny will be called upon by his friends to clarify, although sometimes Kenny doesn't know the meaning of the sexual term. His muffled responses are often met with laughter or further confusion.

So good that most folks (espesh me!) would add soup to the left-over gravy and have it as a broth, after the Chee Cheong Fun is finished! DIVINE :-)
The red bean (hong-tau-sah) dessert was rather good too, nice and thick.

Porridge that belongs in my Hall of Fame ... Cheras

Great porridge, and some divine side dishes ... just the way grandma used to cook them! Fantabulous!

Mee Goreng at Pelita Subang

I am starting to like this mamak ... a lot!

Dried mangoes from Phillipines

Fantastic! Yummy, and free of sugar. Incredible tasting dried mangoes, purchased from Cold Storage Bangsar ... Creme de la Creme! 8 bucks is not cheap, but it is very good.

Baker's Cottage, Bukit Tinggi (Klang)

Baker's Cottage is located at the heart of Bukit Tinggi, Klang ... Call +603 3323 6199 for directions! Average pastry products (Chicken sausage bun @ $1.90 / Macau Egg Tart @ $1.20 / BBQ Chicken Puff @ $1.50 / Muffins = Strawberry and Blueberry @ $0.90 each) , but the Cheese Stick @ $1.50 (my first!) was rather yummy.

Paya Serai buffet , PJ Hilton

Work dinner at Paya Serai this evening ... it was rather yummy, but very pricey at over 80 ringgit + +
Paya Serai is described as ... This Petaling Jaya restaurant's chic interior design blends mother of pearl with metallic and silver shades. The open kitchen sets a dramatic dining backdrop with sparks and flames.

Nasi Lemak, Lobak and Tom Yam Noodles in Klang

This kopitiam is located off the main road opposite the main road (Traffic light cross-roads) leading into Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Neomi first brought me here for Ah-Pam many moons ago ... but now I realised the rest of the makan is as good!
Nasi Lemak (Really good! The chicken sambal was excellent) ... Lobak (Rather good - Nice pork spring rolls) ... Tom Yam Meehoon (Way too hot! And the meehoon didn't seem very well cooked!?) ... And washed down with some Teh Si (hey, its named after me!).

Sunday, September 09, 2007

Maggi Mee Goreng & Sirap-Limau , Pelita Subang

Nasi Kandar Pelita mamak is at SS15 in Subang Jaya ... house of one of the best Maggi Mee Gorengs this side of town. Tonight I also found that the TOSAI TISU is excellent, much better then the too-oily roti tisu at Kayu (Chow Yang). Best of all, wash it all down with some Sirap Limau (kurang manis, kurang ice - Thankx Map!).

Japanese noodles in Klang ... Sabi Wasabi

Japanese restaurant in Klang ... Sabi Wasabi
26 Lorong Batu Nilam 21A , Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2 , 41200 Klang
Tel: +603 3324 6777
I had Black Pepper Chicken Ramen ($17 less 10% = $15.30 ... Dunno why there was a discount, perhaps it was 'early bird' cos I ate before 7pm?) for dins tonite at this nearby eatery. Large portions are always appreciated by me, and it was actually rather good ... but I do like rather 'interesting fusion type foods' such as black pepper with soup ramen in this case!
For starters I had 2 pieces of Tuna Salad Sushi which at $2.99 was rather good value, though the taste nor texture was nothing to shout about!
The Ocha (Hot green tea - unlimited refills, meant I had 4!) cost me 50 cents.
All in all, good value, and good service ... I like this place!

Char Siew Soh by Beng See Bakery

A light / healthier version of char-siew soh ... Flakey light pastry, but not 'char-siew-y' enough for me!

Bayu Timor ... Cakes and such

Bayu Timor is located at the other end of the street from the famous / my family fave Pang Kor Fish Head Curry ... 13, Jalan SS24/8 Taman Megah
An eclectic restaurant that basically sells all the furniture that you are sitting / eating on ... has good kuehs, and nice Rojak. Endee also had the Sarawak Laksa that he didn't say much about, perhaps it was only OK. Or perhaps it was cause we were in the company of 2 East Malaysians who surely KNOW good sarawak laksa :-)
Not cheap at 60 bucks for the below 'tea spread', and drinks for the 6 of us.
ps . Sorry, I (yes, would you believe it!) forgot to bring my 'real' Camera out, had to make do with a pathetic Nokia phone-cam! Much nicer photo on my previous visit to this place ... Review of Bayu Timor Rojak

Ipoh Hor Fun @ Chan Thong Kee, SS2

Stumbled on-to this eatery at SS2 (18, Jalan SS2/16 , Petaling Jaya 46350) ... turned out to be good! Very smooth Ipoh hor-fun (Wonder if it did get transported over from Ipohland?), but the broth wasn't up to Ipoh standards ... good Prawn Wantan in a nice soup ... decent Steamed Chicken ... good Beansprouts. Gingko Barli aka Pak Kor Yee Mai was good too. Overall, a return visit is on the cards.
Some facts ...
(1) Seems they have been around for 15 years?
(2) They have 2 other branches! Jalan Cecil (Petaling Street), and Jalan Barat (off Jalan Imbi).
(3) These guys weren't very busy before 11.30am, when we first got there ... but soon after noon, it was packed!

Nasi Lemak by Yanna

Yanna's famous Nasi Lemak was our dinner :-) Excellent as always!

ps. Blog-count ... 666 to date!

French wine & Pate ... Le Bouchon

Located near Bukit Ceylon - Tong Shin area of Kuala Lumpur ... a delightful French restaurant run by Philippe. Good bottle of 2000 Chateau Soudars Bordeaux (RM$169), and some excellent Goose Terine @ $48 aka Pate and Toast (ask for more Onion Jam, so yummy!) to go with it. Excellent!

Merdeka! Celebrations continue...

As seen at the Courthouse and Bukit Bintang Plaza area of KL ... Malaysia is still celebrating its 50th year of independence a week on!

Hong-Kong style desserts, KTZ at SS2

KTZ aka The Fruitti Stall ... 22 Jalan SS2/63, Petaling Jaya
Telephone: +603 7877 2499
Go for the MANGO LOH if you have a sweet-tooth, but it isn't overly sweet actually. Would have liked more pieces of mango though. Do like the drinks at KTZ - Longan Rose (which also had bits of nata d' coco - yum) and Lemon Honey. Warm tong-yuen (A dollar each mind you!) to finish off the dessert treat, nice!
Did notice how poor the finishing of the shop was though, the paintwork, the electrical conduits, but hey... no one seemed to notice!

Ichiban Ramen, Ikano

Saturday lunch, 8th September 2007
Located at Ikano Power Centre, in Mutiara Damansara ... this little japanese noodle shop. Previously I had walked passed it many a time (being next to A&W, and adjacent / opposite to my regular Uncle Lim's and Breadstory eateries), but never gave it a chance. Glad I finally did yesterday! Its really yummy, the Spicy Chicken Noodles is a must-try!

Law abiding Malaysians, near Kerteh

Spotted on the drive back to KL after our diving trip ... Located next to the Petronas refinery plant, in Kerteh (Terengganu).
Ps. Menjaja = Hawking aka Hawkers

Keropok Lekor, en route back to KL

Stopped by at Gerbeng near Kuantan on the way back to Kuala Lumpur ...

Hai Peng, a coffee institution at Kemaman

Hai Peng is a legendary coffee shop in the town of Kemaman on the way to Kuantan ... This was a stop all of us were looking forward to on our journey back to civilisation!

Here's the very special Vietnamese-style coffee ... strong, and full of body. Good!

Stuffed Crab ... Restoran Malaysia, Kemaman

On the way back to KL after our Redang dives ... as always, had to stop-over in Kemaman. Last time round we tried the nearby Tong Juan Restaurant but we decided to give Restoran Malaysia 'the original crab' a try instead! Guess it dis-proves that originals are better!
Thanks for the treat, Endee!

On the table ... Stuffed crab (not as tasty as the previous restaurant!), fried fish with garlic flakes (good but a tad bland!), Sambal Prawns, Fried Rice, Foo Yong Egg, Kangkung in Belacan. Overall the food lacked 'FIRE', just wasn't tasty enough.

Redang ... Merdeka under the sea!

MERDEKA ! MERDEKA ! MERDEKA !

Redang, 31st August 2007

Nudis and Nemoes galore as always in Redang :-)

Took the chance to get some still-life shots as well ... tried to catch the sun-burst.

Redangkalong - Open Water and Advanced certification

WELL DONE, Open Water and Advance certified students of Tim & AB :-)
We had some Green Label to celebrate! Thanks, Endee!

Scenes of Redangkalong, so idyllic ...

Hey, its Chef! New on the menu ... spag bol :-)

On the day we were leaving, AB and Tim had to attend a Reef Clean Up programme (organised by some ministry) ...

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Compressed Air! Nemoes! No De-co!

And as we got back across to Merang ... Ah Siang was there to greet us!?

Hmm ... this is truly PAS land, as were drove back to KL ...

Redang ... The drive & the breakfast

A long over-due post...
A leisurely drive from Klang - Kuantan - Kuala Terengganu - Merang ... 500 km in 6+ hours, left at 1am and got in to Kuala Terengganu in time for breakies just past 6am.
Still tickles me to think that there is a Kampung Cina serving PORK in Kuala Terengganu ... on Merdeka Day too!

Arrived at Merang jetty for 7.30am ... And we took the boat across to the island at 8.30am. It was packed with people at the little cafe opposite the jetty!

Pappa Kopitiam, Bukit Tinggi (Klang)

Another visit to this establishment ... On the table this evening was Pappa Kopitiam Chicken Chop with Fried Rice, Nasi Lemak (as always!) and Assam Laksa too. All were good! I am simply impressed that Klang has gone a long way to improved its eateries, both in terms of ambience and taste. It comes with a $$$ though!

McD's ... Beware! Filling is Hot!

Wen and Howe's wedding meeting Mk 1 started at Uncle Lim's in Ikano ... moved on to A&W which was already closing at 10pm ... and finally on to McDonalds outside Ikano in Mutiara.

Always consistently good chips at McDs, McNuggets which I am not so fond of any more ... Dunno about the fried chicken ... and everyone's favourite, the Banana Pie.

BEWARE! Filling is Hot!

Uncle Lim's at Ikano, Mutiara Damansara

Having some eats with Wen, Howe (Thanx for the treat!) and gang at UNCLE LIM's (Homegrown Tastes? That motto always makes me wonder..) . Reasonable, consistent fare every time ... Nice kaya with the kaya toast, good Michael Jackson / Soya Cincau (albeit too expensive at over 2 bucks, and not a very big glass), otak otak was so-so, reasonable nasi lemak and good chicken and chips!

Ah-pam ... Klang

$1 buys you a fluffy, tasty a-pam ... And service by the lady with a smile ... she speaks perfect Queen's english!

Shanghainese Moon Cakes

Delightful!

Sweet and sour fish ... Home cooked, yummy!

Gotta love a home cooked meal ... Soup with red dates, Potatoes stir-fried with dried shrimps, Yanna's pork with mushroom stew, and Sweet and Sour Fish ... Simply yummy!
Thanks for the raw-fish Fisherman-Dad!

Cakes from San Terri, Hartamas Shopping Centre

Expensive ... tiny portions at $7 each.

Fried Ice Cream, Port Klang

Enjoyed the work dinner at Bagan Seafood, in Port Klang ... dessert was FRIED ice cream. Yum!

Maggi Mee Goreng, Pelita (Subang)

This maggi mee goreng is full of flavour and moist as well ... so yummy! Pelita mamak is located in Subang, near Pan's. Check out the waiters when you are next their, adorning their 'Malaysia flag' songkoks!

Lian Chee Kang & Ice Kachang, Jalan Alor

Had dessert down Jalan Alor after our yummy dinner ... Yu Jo sure likes his desserts, he had both Lian Chee Kang AND Ice Kachang.
The damage ... 2 Ice Kachangs and 2 Lian Chee Kangs = $11

Chicken Wings ... Wong Ah Wah, Jalan Alor, KL

Wong Ah Wah is located at the start of Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
Add: 1, Jalan Alor (Off Jalan Bukit Bintang), 50200, Kuala Lumpur.
Tel: +603-2144 2463 or 2148 3413
Opened: 5.00pm - 3.45am (Closed on alternate Mondays)

It is famous amongst locals and toursists alike for their CHICKEN WINGS and ROAST CHICKEN. The butter prawns and tung-fun were reasonable as well. Ye and Jo were keen to go for the mixed platter of Satay, and Sting-ray in Sambal. We also had Kam-Hiong Lala and stir fried greens. All washed down with Carlsberg, total bill came up to about $125, not cheap as it is a touristy place, but nevertheless ... good chicken wings!

Parking is literally next to your 'dining' table (!) at $5, and I found traffic to be OK at nearly 7pm, but the road was gridlockced by the time we left at 10pm ... Hey, welcome home on your holiday, Jo!

Fu-yoh ....

Spotted outside Sungai Wang in the Bukit Bintang area ... Digi has the best ads!

Crispy Popiah, Sisters at Ikano

Down the road from Ikea ... Crispy Popiah. Very yummy!

Fish & Chips at Ikea

Fish and Chips, and Gravad Lax (Salmon) at IKEA in Mutiara Damansara ... Nice!

Roast chicken ... Chu Yu Coffeeshop, Kepong

Chu Yu Coffeeshop, Sri Sinar in Jalan 16/38D, Kepong.
Endee recommended his family favourite's YHK BBQ Chicken Wings and Roast Chicken, and it did not dissapoint ... EXCELLENT! Succulent, perfectly roasted and tasty :-) with a tangy and VERY HOT chilli-sauce.

The Kambing (Lamb) Satay was also full of flavour ... so yummy!

The other dishes served were only OK ... Crayfish fried in butter, Pai Kuat (Pork Ribs) 'Wong', and Stir Fried veges, washed down with cold Tiger.
