Great Goulash ... had this three, or was it four.. times whilst I was in Hungaria for 3 weeks.


Pasta anyone? How about pasta with shrimps ... or with salmon. Take your pick.

Zastava - Yes, these still exist in Hungary!

Two remarkable elements of Hungarian cuisine that are hardly noticed by locals, but usually conjure up much enthusiasm amongst foreigners, are different forms of vegetable stews called főzelék as well as cold fruit soups, like cold sour cherry soup (Hungarian: hideg meggyleves).


Their version of Rizs with Chicken aka Chicken Rice ... my typical lunch for most of the 3 weeks! I got so bored after a week, I started having salads and sandwiches!!

Good value, really good food, nice setting!


Only downside is they (along with other restaurants!) allow smoking ... sigh!

Wooden Plate - Signature dish of Hotel Anna, Matrafured

I had this Wooden Plate TWICE at Hotel Anna, Matrafured - Hungaria. Over a three week period, I had the chance to try various dishes in the hotel restaurant, but this was possibly the best ... well, this and the Mexican turkey with Rice, which never turned out the same twice!

Fiat Punto - Extremely spacious inside for a supermini!

What brought me to work each day for 2 weeks in Hungarian, before I got "my" Ford Focus?


Don't let that "carbon fibre" finish fool you ... this is a base 1.2 litre model, that didn't go very fast!

The key fob is so similar to a VW's ... compliment really!

I love the chic, simple, unadulterated styling ... really nice. This is the Fiat Punto.

ps - Best bit? The interior size! When R came to pick us up from Budapest airport, FOUR grown-men squeezed into the car, with four of our FULL SIZE SUITCASES, and hand-carry bags to match! That's not including the driver :-)

It shares its platform with the 2008 SEAT Ibiza Mk4 and the upcoming Audi A1. Production for the UK market is scheduled to start in summer 2009, with first deliveries in October 2009.
Official images released show the new Polo follows styling cues from the Golf VI.

We cleared immigrations into Europe at Frankfurt, so it was just a matter of picking up our luggage... and walking straight out into the wintery, oops ... an autumn Budapest day!
