Red Box Plus Karaoke, Pavilion KL

RED BOX PLUS has arrived , and here's a snippet from an article in The Star...

" WITH stylish red sofas and a cocktail bar in the waiting area, Red Box Plus is set to change the stereotype of dark and cramped karaoke rooms.
We want to create a different ambience and concept from our regular outlets, catered more towards the corporate and socialite circles,” managing director Valerie Choo said.
Instead of a reception counter, patrons walking in will notice the cocktail bar. The flagship outlet of the Red Box Karaoke chain is located on Levels 4 and 5 in the Connection wing of Pavillion Kuala Lumpur, with the main entrance on Level 5. "

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, 'K'araoke in a classy joint, with good ventilation, an excellent sound system and generally nice ambience. 'K' has gone upmarket!

This was our post-Lafite activity for the evening ... Well, its time for a sing-song ...

Yes, we were overzealous ... so many songs!

Time to say goodbye ... and avoid them roadblocks!

Oriental Cravings, One Utama

Hmm, interesting ... J&R has just opened opposite the very popular Oriental Cravings in One Utama. Not sure if it is such a good idea, as there weren't many lunch crowd-goers to J&R, compared to Oriental Cravings when I was there.

We enjoyed the ... Yam Cake ($3.90 - Nice texture, sambal accompanying sambal), and Chee Cheong Fun with Pork Curry ($5.90).

However, I was dissapointed by the Toasted Sandwich with Pork floss and Luncheon Meat $5.50 (did not seem as good as when I first went with the gals a year ago - when we ta-powed it into Bakerzin One Utama!), and the two desserts @ $3.90 ('Sharksfin' melon and Bor Bor Cha Cha - both were overpowered with sugar).

The 'hot pulled tea' was RM$3.90 (aka Teh Si ... not cheap!), and hot purified water (aka water!) was $0.50 a glass. At least it was really hot! Good service though.

JJ Fruit Fusion, One Utama

JJ Fruit Fusion has a remedy juice for every ailment ... sore throats (which is why we went), as well as for the HEART!? Huh .. pushing the boundaries of science I reckon!
Anyway ... the juices here are rather interesting.

One Utama ... Christmas and Rainforest

I like One U ... to me this is still the benchmark mall in the retail landscape of Malaysia, despite newer malls such as Pavilion KL, The Gardens Midvalley, Sunway II, and AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang. Its Christmas season ...

Interesting facts from Wikipedia ...
1 Utama is a popular shopping mall in Bandar Utama, a suburb in the northern part of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The Original Wing, comprising the retail precincts of Centre Court and Courtyard as well as Jusco deparmental store and supermarket, was opened in 1995. It is operated and developed by ÆON Co. (M) Bhd., the operator of Jusco chain of stores.
The New Wing, comprising the retail prescints of Promenade, Rainforest, Highstreet and Oval as well as Entertainment Zone, U-Parkson and Giant is operated and developed by Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn Bhd.

There is a great deal of dispute over whether the name of the mall is "One Utama" or "1 Utama". A recent press release by the management (Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn. Bhd.) states that the official name is 1 Utama Shopping Centre and not "One Utama" or "1-Utama". This move was meant to limit the confusion of its name, although either one of the mentioned names are easily understood and cannot be confused because of their same meaning.
1 Utama is also popularly known as "One U" for short or sometimes as "O U".

Shihlin Taiwanese Street Snacks, One Utama

Patrick recommended this place, located at One Utama old wing near GSC Cinema. Simple set-up operated by ONE individual, who takes your order, cooks the food, and serves you the drink!

XXL Crispy Chicken - Very good. Best item in the shop!

Crispy Floss Egg Crepe - Average.

Handmade Oyster Mee Sua - Too strong in flavour, do I detect copius amounts of MSG!?

Seafood tempura - Poor.

Levis changing room ... One Utama

Cool hangers in the Levis changing room, at One Utama!

Huge spoiler on a Wira!

Doh! What a big spoiler!! Spotted along the KESAS highway ...

Pappa Kopitiam, Bukit Tinggi in Klang

My regular breakfast place near my home in Klang ... ah, a nice cuppa Teh Si to start the morning. Thats tea with Evaporated Milk and a little bit of sugar.

My 'regular' dry curry hor-fun. Nice!

Set adrift on a memory bliss ...

PM Dawn ... 1991 ... Set adrift on a Memory Bliss ... The oldies are still the best!

" The camera pans the cocktail glass,
Behind a blind of plastic plants; ...
I found the lady with the fat diamond ring.
Then you know I cant remember a damn thing.
I think its one of those de ja vu things,
Or a dream thats tryin to tell me something... "

What were you up to in 1991? :-)

Bak Kut Teh ... One more time before 2007 comes to an end!

There isn't much which I haven't described or discussed about Teluk Pulai Bak Kut Teh in Klang, near Menara ING - Maybank. Well ... there is a map on this previous review just in case you needed directions.
As for BKT ... its been rather much a staple food of mine all year!

My brother, Gary, even described my 'blog count' (i.e. that I proclaim to have over 1,000 blog entries) to be a cheat as I visit and blog about this INSTITUTION so many times ... haha!

So why did I blog this place once again? I wanted to try flash-less photography, and some super macro, highly dangerous near the hot cauldron, oops ... claypot ... of HOT bak kut teh. Good food, good tea, great company. Nuff' said!

Happy New Year Munsy, Rich, Angeline and Uncle Jeff!

Fat One Steamboat 'Lok-Lok' in SS2, PJ

One early morning ... nearly 2am ... at SS2 in PJ near 7-11 ... I spotted ...

Mmmh ... can't resist!

Fat One Lok-Lok or Steamboat ... just pick your favourite meats, seafood, veges etc ... and dip them in the various mini boiling cauldrons. After a couple of minutes, pick up the sticks, dip them in the sauces (chilli - sweet - satay ... I like satay!) which you can spoon on-to your styrofoam boxes, and voila ... magic. The pork balls are especially yummy!

YES! You can even cater the stall to your home, for about RM$1,000 Mr Fat One will feed 60 of your guests. Enjoy!

Mr Fat One ... at the end of your meal, just dispose of your styrofoam box, and let him count the sticks, which are identified on the tips with colours indicating prices for each, and pay your bill ... and come again!
