Diving at Mataking
20th February
Arrival at Tawau Airport ... we flew Air Asia (surprisingly, on time!)
I was pleasantly surprised by how modern the Tawau airport was!
We were promptly greeted by The Reef Resort team, and were whisked away to Semporna by mini-van ... 100km, or about 2 hours away (cos' we stopped to eat! Ouch, 20 ringgit worth of fried rice, well it was between 5 of us!)

Day trip in Sipadan ... 3 dives at the Holy Grail of diving!
We dived South Point, Baraccuda Point, and Drop Off (with the famous Turtle Cavern) ... but pity the viz wasn't particularly good. Still it was great to do my first wall dive.
Even snorkeling at Sipadan is an adventure with huge schools of fish, including a lonely Bumphead Parrotfish. Highlight of the 3 dives was thousands of jacks swimming in formation, a small school of 10 barracudas, and the friendliest turtles ever!
All in all, between Mataking and Sipadan, I completed 16 dives ... great :-)
Best of all, got to know new dive kakis, including Michelle, Alyssa, Rachel, Daniel, Bryan (Happy 100th Dive!) and Desmond.

There was even an underwater postoffice at Mataking! At 19 metres deep, one could post a postcard at the wreck, which is 'cleared' 4 times a week.
Bryan and Rachel led a team to release turtles into the sea on our last evening there ... COOL!

Have to say the food at this place wasn't very good, and rather expensive at $270 for the ten of us ... The 'Hoi Tai Kai' didn't compare with Kota Kinabalu's!!

The day started out with the 3 brothers 'pai-nien' at our family home ... Then the Si Clan arrived for Nasi Lemak brunch, very yummy!
Then, we headed to a temple in Port Klang, where my brothers paid their respect...
We then headed to Sam Yee Poh's place in Klang, and were reunited with the Si Clan ... We then had lunch of CNY cookies, as well as rendang chicken and sotong, fantastic chai-choy, and excellent agar-agar too!
The Si Clan then came to 'pai-nien' for the first time ever at my Casa ... :-)

Nice dinner at Eric Tsang (HK movie star)'s restaurant in Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas :-)
Sweet and sour pork was so good, we had it TWICE, and the Tofu with Salted Egg was interesting, the Stir fried vege was bitter (Looked like spinach, not sure what it was called, but typically used in steamboats), the Fish in Soya sauce was good but too boney, and Roast Duck was OK too.
p/s Mark says timsum here is good too, must try MUST TRY!

Kepong food haven ... Porridge (Chee-Chap aka Pigs Bits!) and Nasi lemak ... and the HQ of KTZ (Superb siu-mai, great sweet stuff too!) too... So yummy!

Fantastic home-made noodles with just the right 'elasticity' (Served al-dante or 'firm to bite' mmmmmmmh), EXCELLENT char-siew, great wan-ton and sui-kao. Truly brilliant! But not cheap ...

Loh Mai Kai and Tai Pao ... Home made!

Mum's friends made some home made goodies ... excellent 'Loh mai kai' (Glutinous rice) and 'Tai Pao' (Big Pao - with minced pork and egg filling) . Both very YUMMY!

Can't believe I never visited this institution till today! RM$3.20 ($2.80 for a lot of pan mee, and the extra 40 cents for an egg delicately poised in the broth) for magic!
The drink was special too ... Barley with Chin-Chow, RM$1 of yum!

Food is average, but it was a fun evening full of 'Loh-Hay' (Tossing the vege and jellyfish in the air, whilst saying prosperous stuff like, "Increased salary this year!", "Lets hope I do not run out of air on my dives!!") and various other dishes; Pork ribs, Soft shell crab, Fei-chao bean-sauce steamed fish, Tofu, Veg). HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!
