Jakes Charbroiled Steaks / Happy Birthday, Mum!

Happy 60th Mum :-)
Jakes Steakhouse, Damansara Heights
Add: 21 Jalan Setiapuspa, Medan Damansara, KL
Tel: +603 2094 5677
Mum had Lamb ribs with bbq sauce, and dad and myself each had a succulent Australian rib-eye (Dad's opted for a larger cut!). Starters were the always good Oxtail Soup (I had the Goulash), and fantastic Potato skins. Very yummy!
Jakes has been my family favourite for years ... why? Good value, consistent quality, good service, and pretty much a damn good steak!

Zillion Restaurant (Air-Con) in Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Dinner, 21st January

Yes, this is not Million restaurant, or Billion restaurant ... it is a ZILLION restaurant! :-)

Found this new restaurant in Bukit Tinggi, Klang ... Lala (kam-hiong style) was simply average, yam basket with sweet and sour pork filling was good, and minced-pork sizzling tofu was not as good as Section 17 PJ's!

The dessert after, courtesy of the Chuas, who brought some beautiful pastries over from KLCC's Isetan (Sun Moulin) was excellent!

Yui-Tao Vermicelli and Hokkien Mee, off Jalan Ipoh

Lunch, 21st January

A little coffeeshop tucked away, off Jalan Ipoh ... 25 bucks was all it cost for Yui-Tao Mai Fun (Crispy battered fish head, with vermicelli in white broth), Hokkien Mee which was hand-made (Amazing texture to the noodles), Thai-style deep fried tofu, and Stewed pork with Vinegar. Amazing value, great makan!

Directions from The Map ... "Just behind HSCB Jalan Ipoh, Look out for a temple called CHOO something, then turn right, go straight. Food stall facing the temple just next to a big monsoon drain"

Pan Mee, Swee Hing Coffeeshop at OUG

Breakfast, 21st January

A bit of heaven for 4 ringgit ... Pan mee done the traditional way, 'noodles' were not shredded, in fact it was pieces of flour cooked in a delectable broth with tasty ikan-bilis and fragrant seaweed.
Mmmmmmmmmmh :-)

All for the princely sum of SGD$37 (Approx. RM$85).

Seremban Siew Pao

Seremban Siew Pao Sdn Bhd
No trip south of Kuala Lumpur would be complete without a visit to the mecca of siew paos ... Seremban!

Warong Seremban Siew Pow was where I savoured ...

(1) Chicken siew pow - INCREDIBLE! Great pastry, beautiful filling, not oily ... simple perfection.

(2) Pork siew pow - GOOD! But can't compare with the chicken version!

(3) Char siew soh - A recent home made one I had was MUCH better then this ... :-)

(4) Egg Tart - OK pastry, but what made up for it was the egg-custard filling, very good.

(5) Kaya buff aka Kaya puff - So so ...

Even tried the cooked food at this establishment,

(1) Lamb curry (Damn good!)

(2) Black Assasint and Stamed Bread (as described on their poster) ... this was actually stewed pork with man-tao! Very yum!

(3) Paper wrapped chicken (Interesting variation, with hint of chinese wine, this was good too).

Overall, this establishment certainly did not dissapoint. A must visit!

Ps : Last 2 pics is of the Loh Poh Peng that Stan and Debs brought back from HK, I was enjoying it when I wondered, " What is this chewy stuff? " . Only after 2 mins, did I realize I was eating the paper-wrapper at the base of the biccie! OOPS :-)

Happy New Year!

1am, 1st January 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Its 2007 ;-)
I am looking forward to a year filled with love, family, friends, forgiveness and faith.

Backyard in Sri Hartamas ... good band playing 80s music, we were entertained with Rock Ballads all night long, GO BON JOVI! The vodka ribena was decent, good value but probably TOO much ribena!

Hafiz mamak ... Desa Sri Hartamas, on the road leading up to Souled Out. We had tasty nasi lemak and pedas-maggi mee goreng, yum.
