Ko Lo Mee from Kuching, and Char siew (Bandar Baru Klang)

Wow, time flies... today's the Eve of New Year's Eve ...

To celebrate, I had supper last nite (Ko Lo Mee), and breakfast of a 2nd packet of Ko Lo Mee ... Airflown by the Chua's from Kuching again. So yummy!

Here is an old photo of a very nice lunch I enjoyed in Bandar Baru Klang earlier this week, on 26th December ... Char Siew and Roast Duck at Spring something restaurant. Near Jusco. EXCELLENT char siew!

Ma Maison, Ampang KL - Homely french cuisine

Dinner, Wednesday @ 27th December 2006
32 Persiaran Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

French cuisine in an unassuming location, excellent service, and beautiful food ... Breads (garlic, mmmh) were good, the starters were outstanding - Prawn bisque and home-made liver pate, and the mains equally good ... Coq au Vin (Rooster) and Cod. EXCELLENT!

Great value at RM$120 for all the food!

ps. Uncle Jean Marc, great recommendation!

Damansara Village Seafood & Steamboat

Dinner with mum and dad, Sunday 24th December 2006

A return visit to Damansara Village Steamboat, located next to SS23, near Taman Megah, not too far from the Damansara exit of the NKVE.
Really fresh Pulau Ketam seafood (Fantastic prawns! But, so-so fish maw), but the chilli wasn't qite up to standard. Mum reckons Koka is better for its' chilli sauce, and I have to agree. The chee-pau-kai (Paper wrapped chicken) was a really good starter though. 91 bucks for the 3 of us.

Chef & Brew @ Christmas Eve, Damansara Heights

Christmas eve ... Tea @ Sunday, 24th December 2006

2 portions of cheesy wantons (12 per serving), simply mmmmmmmmmmmh ... washed down by lots of ORANGE JUICE 'NO ICE NO SUGAR' :-)

How was it? The Caesar's salad was way too creamy ... but the piece resistance was the Chef's Special Ribs. Tangy, with a hint of spice, in the fantastic barbecue sauce. Simply magnificent, went really well with the coleslaw and creamy mashed potatoes. Mmmmmmmmh :-)
ps. Enjoyed the rose-wine too!

Village Park ... Nasi lemak, and Cava revisited

Where has this restaurant been all my life? I was introduced to Village Park's Nasi Lemak in D.J. yesterday (Saturday, 16th Dec), and it is simply magnificent!

Village Park Restaurant
45, Jalan ss21/37
Damansara Jaya
Petaling Jaya
Tel: +603 - 7710 7860

As described in masak-masak.blogspot.com ... "The place is run by a Chinese couple and usually one of them is around the place running the restaurant and collecting monies. The only slight problem you may have is parking around the area especially during the weekdays as that place is packed since there are so many offices around them. I usually go during Sundays or public holidays so it is easier to get parking. If you do want to try them for lunch during the weekday, park inside the Uptown buildings as they have ample car parks downstairs. The only thing is don't go there alone as I find the car park to be a bit dodgy as it is way too quiet."

ps - Returned to Cava in Jalan Bangkung later on in the evening, for some light tapas ... the black pepper beef is very consistent, and supremely 'hoi-wai' (Appetising!) . Mango and avocado salad was reasonable , but a bit too fruity.

Lychee martinis @ Sevenatenine, The Ascott

sevenatenine
Add: The Ascott Kuala Lumpur @ 9 Jalan Pinang, KL
Tel: +603 2161 7789

Philip is da man! Makes the best Lychee martinis (and arguably the best Cosmopolitans as well!) in town ...

UPDATE (June 2008) - Philip has long left 7ate9 now, last I heard it was in Rooms, but I have not checked out the place.

As described by Jacelyn Johnson in FACES (September 2006),
"Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at the Ascott Hotel, Sevenatenine is indeed an icon of the KL chic community! Its modern ambience welcomes you into a casual yet refined dining avenue. Sevenatenine has managed to bring life to the color white, as the decor, the walls, the sofas, the pillars and every nook and corner is clad with a simplistic yet elegant dash of white. This creates a rather cool and chic surrounding to give a total chill out experience.
The number seven plays a vital role at Sevenatenine. Well, considering the fact that it 'ate' nine. It is only sensible that it be given an imperative part to play. The number seven stems from the seven founders of the restaurant. Thus, it could be clearly seen in the menu that the number seven graces every item, especially in its prices...."

Tamarind Springs ... revisited

Revisited ... Tamarind Springs
Add: Jln 1 Taman TAR Ampang, Selangor
Tel: +603 4256 9300

Friday, 15th December 2006
Tamarind Platter (Must try!), Chicken and Coconut Soup (Damn good, fantastic large chunks of coconut), Snakehead Fish with Chilli (Smooth, tasty, but way too big!), Chicken with Lemongrass (Loved it!), Mixed vege in Fish Sauce (With large tofu pieces, really good), Pan-fried Bananas with Coconut Milk (Only dissapointment of the night - Too sickly sweet, stick to the Fried bananas with Icecream, mmmh, now that is heavenly) ... Green Point Pinot Noir from Australia was an excellent complement to the meal.

U Restaurant, Japanese ... Bangsar

Add: U Restaurant, 69 Jalan Bangkung,
Off Jalan Maarof, Bukit Bandaraya, KL
Tel: +603 2093 1268

How to find this place? Along the main road in Bangsar, called Jalan Maarof, look for TOMS (Toyota Motorsport) and the Shell Petrol station, and immediately start looking left. After the traffic light, there is a left turn, called Jalan Bangkung ... voila!

Food is yummy, in a zen-esque decorated place. Not too busy as well, and good service. Just GOOD! Salmon Sashimi, Unagi sushi, Aubergine was the signature dish (and it certainly deserved to be, incredible!), Tofu with yam (divine!), Soft shell crab salad and a bottle of 2003 Woodbridge Robert Mondavi from California. All good!

Yummy dinner in Berkeley Gardens with mum and dad

Nice chilled out simple dinner of claypot chicken rice for three, stir fry yau-mak, steamed tofu with fishballs, and 2 bowls of Double-Boiled Soup (eg. Pork innards, and Old Melon)
All this for under $50!

Directions: Take the Federal Highway, at the round-about entrance into Klang, take a right (Berkeley Gardens or Taman Kenari), and soon after take another right, drive down this road (Careful the traffic and cars parked along the road-side) for 400m, and voila ... Restoran 99.

Bowling at Sunway Pyramid

BPB bowling competition ... Sunway Pyramid, Subang
I arrived a little late as I thought it was at ... Summit!

Bakerzin, One Utama - Breakies

Breakfast at Bakerzin this morning

Beautiful, zen-esque, and serene furniture, colours and textures in this outlet at One Utama. Perfect as a detox from Vin Bar :-) Unfortunately the food was at best ... mediocre. A dissapointing Power Breakfast (eggs bland, sausage strange-texture and not 'sausagey-in-taste'(!), sauteed mushrooms reasonable), the brioche was the only saving grace!

Supper at 2am, 2nd December (Saturday)

Highlights are too numerous to mention, but I will try any way ... Deep-fried chicken with ginger, Paper-wrapped chicken, Xiu Long Bao, Octopus ball, Sa-toh fish ball, spinach in the porridge, Fried chicken skin (!) to top-up the porridge, Foo-kuen (Beancurd roll) and to finish it all off ... 2 varieties of durian, in pastry and in pancake (D24)!
