Tandoori Corner - GPS coordinates, Airport Road

Ah ha ... we now have the precise GPS coordinates for one of my favourite Indian restaurants in town ... Tandoori Corner of Abu Dhabi:
N 24.46294
E 54.37854

I felt like an Indian meal tonight ... so I went for a drive :-) Free fresh poppadoms for starters...

My mushroom briyani, pretty good - And great value at 16 AED (RM$13), a really large portion that is easily enough for 2 persons.

And the piece de resistance ... Tandoori Corner's perfect Tandoori Chicken. Half portion at 16 AED.

The rest of my meal :-) Dipping sauce and Naan Bread which is served with the above. Yummy!

Fennel, Rock Sugar and coated coriander seeds to freshen your mouth ;-) BURP!

Located along 2nd Road or Airport Road, next to Fathima Supermarket, and not far from Mashraq Bank (A few blocks from Al Wahda Mall), this place is truly an Abu Dhabi institution ... We usually do take-aways as do many people (Call +971 2 445 8686), but try dining in - Its worth a visit!

Briyani and Roti Canai - Damascus Flower, Khalidiyah

Add: Dairathul Miah Road, Khalidiyah
Located: Next to Al Sham Video/Gift, near Lebanese Flower Restaurant
Tel: +971 2 665 2835
Previous review: Feb 2011

We like Damascus Flower a lot, it is probably one of our most frequented eateries in all of Abu Dhabi! Good value, great service, and splendid food :-)

We rarely take-away our food from Damascus Flower, but we did so recently ... and the briyani and paratha (Roti canai), as well as the beef curries and fish curry was still good! Prepare to pay no more then 10 AED per person ... cheap!

India Palace - Now open at Mazyad Mall, Mussafah

India Palace is now open at Mazyad Mall, thus we don't have to brave the mad traffic of the Salam Street branch!

Located: 2nd floor, Mazyad Mall - Plot C, Street # 79, Zone # 9, Mohammed Bin Zayed City
Tel: +971 2 553 2259

Nice ambience, reasonably attentive staff...

According to my colleagues the food is North Indian, here's my chicken briyani ...

The mushroom curry was rather good, but the aloo keema (potatoes/peas) was REALLY good!

ps - We had lassis / fresh juices etc, and the bill came up to 100 AED per person. This isn't a cheap eatery!

Subhiksha - Excellent Indian food on Hamdan Street

Located: Near Russian Embassy, Hamdan St, Abu Dhabi
Tel: +971 2 676 0675

Rava Dosa and Dosa Masala to start :-) The Rava is especially delicious!

Really good Garlic Naan bread, and excellent vege briyani too.

Time for the mains (MD, DS, JT and I also had an excellent daal dish, but it was gone by the time I took the shots!), which were all excellent. Palak Paneer(Spinach and cubes of cheese) and the Aloo Ghobi (Potatoes / Cauliflower) stood out!

King Fish Tandoori ... I am not a big fan of fish, but this was tasty and fresh.

Overall, another excellent meal at Subhiksha, where parking is much improved since Mawaqif came into force! Great value too, at 30 AED or RM$25 per head.

Zari Zardozi - Al Raha Mall, Abu Dhabi

We don't often stop at Al Raha Mall, but over the weekend we realise it is now our favourite Lulu supermarket, great selection of items, very fresh fruits, as well as not having to jostle with half of Abu Dhabi!

Located: On the highway to Dubai, on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi
Shopping: Zari Zardozi is located on the ground floor of Al Raha Mall
Tel: +971 2 556 5188

Interesting eatery, Zari Zardozi also runs a spa (!) as well as a clothing shop. Reminded me a little of Delicious by Ms Read in Malaysia...

It was a very windy and hot day, nearly 45C!

Not a good start, average poppadoms! At least the staff was friendly, and knowledgable ... and very child friendly as well.

We prefer the curries at Tandoori Corner ... The Briyani at Tandoori Corner is especially good! Here at Zari Zardozi, we had the Chicken Tikka-Murgh Masala, which had strange oyster sauce accents, but at least the Rogan-e-Josh (Lamb) was tended and full of flavour.

And overall, we much prefer the food at Damascus Flower, where we could eat a similar meal for no more then 35 AED. Yes, this compared to 180 AED at Zari Zardozi! The Garlic Naan here was good, but at over 10 AED, just too expensive. And ... 50 AED for the portion of Chicken Briyani was over the top!

The Masala Tea was rather strong, I will stick to "normal" Cha-eh next time!

ps. Aldar HQ is the landmark building, located adjacent to Al Raha Mall ... most incredible building in Abu Dhabi? You betcha!

Roti Canai in Abu Dhabi - Damascus Flower, Khalidiyah

Thanks KCL for recommending this wonderful humble little eatery :-)

Damascus Flower Restaurant
Add: Dairathul Miah Road, Khalidiyah
Located: Next to Al Sham Video/Gift, near Lebanese Flower Restaurant
Tel: +971 2 665 2835 , +971 55 564 8809

Friday lunch time means ... Briyani (Choice of Chicken, Fish or Mutton) at Damascus. And its REALLY good! Light, tasty, and generous with chicken pieces too.

We like the poppadom here too ...

The highlight? Malaysians need not miss ROTI CANAI any more in Abu Dhabi ... so good! Paratha here is just like our Roti Canai!

We have so far tried the spicy and tasty (shredded chicken) Chicken Chilli so far, as well as the really yummy Chicken Fry :-)

ps - Along with a can of pepsi, a bottle of mineral water and nice cha-eh (tea!) ... All the above cost under RM$20, or 23 AED. That's dirt cheap by Abu Dhabi standards!

Ushna the posh indian - Souk Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi

Located: Beside Shangri-La Hotel, along Souk Qaryat Al Beri
Tel: +971 2 558 1769
Child-friendly: No! They do not allow children at dinner-time. You can bring your little ones at lunchtime :-(

How nice ... a vew of the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque from the al-fresco side of Ushna ...

Very fancy bread/poppadom basket!

Posh, eh ... They even serve you an amuse bouche ;-)
This is (by a mile!) the poshest Indian restaurant I had ever been to ... the food is good, but really expensive. It wouldn't be difficult to spend up to 150 AED per person at this place.

Perfect naan bread ... and a delicious tandoori chicken dish.

Prepare to pay anything from 70 to 90 AED for a dish here, not cheap! They did (in 2010) accept the Entertainer voucher book, but this offer seems to have stopped now.

Complimentary sweets before the bill arrived :-)
