Thanks to Domino's Pizza for the charity preview screening of ... Terminator : Salvation at Cineleisure, the Curve :-)

The strong cast includes...
Christian Bale ... John Connor
Sam Worthington ... Marcus Wright
Helena Bonham Carter ... Dr. Serena Kogan
Michael Ironside ... General Ashdown
And, a very special cameo :-) by... I'll Be Back!

Loved the SFX effects and espesh the sound :-) Earth shattering!

Imdb.com ... Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
ps - There was even a goodie box with a free pizza voucher, some decals as well as this t-shirt.

Want some freshly grated wasabi ... look no further then Senjyu :-)
This was my second visit here, and the food was as good as my first visit here a few months back. I was impressed that the service had improved as well.

Some random kaitens ... Red plate (RM$2), black plate (RM$4), silver plate (RM$6). Always impresses me how fresh the sushi at Senjyu is!

Trio salmon, so fresh ... RM$10, good value!

My very delicious Yakiniku Don, RM$16.90
I was kind enough to share this with my dear movie/makan kakis L, V, M and J of course ;-)

Senjyu Wagyu Maki @ RM$39.90 ... Pure indulgence!

Unatama Maki, RM$26.90 and Senjyu Dragon Maki, RM$18.90

Two more kaitens ... the gold plates are RM$10 each. Love the freshness and the zing-factor of the mango slices!
We each had Sencha, hot japanese green tea, as well ... RM$2 each, bringing the total to RM$178 or about RM$34 a head. Another really good meal here, and we finished JUST IN TIME for the premier of Terminator: Salvation!

Bak Kut Teh place alongside Sekolah Kebangsaan Cina Pandamaran B, Klang

Ever seen a man smokin a cigar for breakfast at a BKT joint, I have!!
Only in ... Pandamaran :-)

Located: In between Tuah Kiat and Elim Florist and Gifts, Pandamaran, Klang
Landmark: Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (Cina) Pandamaran B is located diagonally across the road from this BKT place

Tea ... Aunt G brought her own Poh Lei concoction, earthy and good!

Our dear aunts had ordered piggy tendons by the time we arrived, interesting! Seems its a delicacy ... must have been why the BKT meal cost RM$60 for the four of us, which is good value considering the "spare parts" (eg tendons!) ordered.

Aunt I ordered 10 pieces of ... uh ... chicken feet :-)

Not my favourite BKT ... an experience nevertheless. I found that it lacked "oooomph!"

BMW Z3 front fender vents copy on a Proton Wira!

When I parked alongside this car in Klang, for half a fleeting moment ... I thought it was a BMW Z3 :-)
This was what I thought I was looking at, the vents on the front fender of the Z3 :-)

Hmm, when I "zoomed out", here's what I saw!

Restoran Khalifah - We are not the first, but we are the best! Shah Alam

Dissapointing lunchy at Khalifah, Section 3 (Shah Alam) ... The "ayam madu" picked by the waiter for me was lacking in meat and flavour, and the teh was weak. Sigh ... Pelita rules the roost now!

ps - Their tagline of "We are not the first, but we are the best!" seems to be mis-guided, considering the quality of the food :-(

D27 - Great registration on a Toyota Camry

Great Kelantan registration :-) of D27 on this Toyota Camry.

Proton registered cars, Shah Alam

After a decade, one still sees "Proton" registered plates on Sagas, and Wiras alike. Wonder if they allow it to be transferred to a non-Malaysian car, or (shudder) Perodua even! :-) Hmmm, imagine Proton 1 on a ... Myvi!

Warning! The above photo was taken at Shah Alam's notoriously dangerous (for bumps!) Kayangan roundabout, becareful!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 with Nikon Speedlight SB-600

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 sits comfortably in your hand ...

.. that is until you mount an external flash on the little guy! Here is our Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 with a Nikon Speedlight SB-600!

Pros and cons ... We found it to be rather unwieldly, more so then when the flash is mounted on the larger Canon G9! Also, we couldn't figure out how to "go" TTL (Through-the-lens), and changing the zoom on the LX3 did not change the zoom on the flash. Likewise, when we mounted the flash on the Canon G9, we faced the same problem. Alas!

Canon G9 with a Nikon Speedlight SB600 flash

The results using an external flash, bounced to the ceiling, is obvious. Even without TTL, as the flash is a Nikon SB600 whilst the camera is a Canon G9, after various attempts at different shutter-speeds, here is the result :-)

Canon G9 - f/2.8 , 1/800s , ISO400

Canon G9 v Canon G10 v Nikon D80

Under harsh lighting conditions, shooting-macro, sans-flash, it is rather hard to tell the Canon Powershot G9 v the G10.

Canon G9 - f/2.8 , 1/25s , ISO400

Canon G10 - f/2.8 , 1/25s , ISO400

Its clear that a SLR is superior in every aspect, even with a non-Nikkor lens :-)
Nikon D80 - f/2.8 , 1/25s , ISO400

Bak Chang Festival or Rice Dumpling - Zongzi is upon us!

I love Bak Chang or Rice Dumpling Festival, it'll soon be upon us :-) Thanks to Aunty Dr L for the two home-made dumplings :-) SLURP!

Step 1: Steam...

Step 2: Unwrap :-)

Step 3: Enjoy!

Wikipedia
Zongzi (or zong) is a traditional Chinese food, made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. They are cooked by steaming or boiling. They are known in Japanese as chimaki. Laotians, Thais, Cambodians, and Vietnamese (bánh tro) also have similar traditional dishes influenced by zongzi.
Zongzi (also known as rice dumpling) is traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival (Mandarin: Duanwu; Cantonese: Tuen Ng) which falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar (approximately early to mid-June), commemorating the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period.
Known for his patriotism, Qu Yuan tried unsuccessfully to warn his king and countrymen against the expansionism of their Qin neighbors. When the Qin Dynasty general Bai Qi took Yingdu, the Chu capital, in 278 BC, Qu Yuan's grief was so intense that he drowned himself in the Miluo river after penning the Lament for Ying. According to legend, packets of rice were thrown into the river to prevent fish from eating the poet's body. Another version states that zongzi were given to placate a dragon that lived in the river.

Steamed bread at Tin Loong Suan, is this Hulu Bernam or Tanjung Malim?

The famed steam bread at Kalumpang near Tanjung Malim has been beaten by .... Kedai Kopi dan Arak Tin Loong Suan, at Hulu Bernam! Soft, fluffy, warm, with a generously large fresh-from-fridge-cold piece of butter :-) Enjoyed with a cuppa strong coffee, marvellous!

So, is this Hulu Bernam or TM? Selangor or Perak?
The answer ... is of course on Wikipedia's entry abt Tg Malim :-)
Around 1766, Perak Sultan Mahmud Shah crowned the Bugis prince Lumu as Sultan Salahuddin Shah to establish the Selangor Sultanate. Sungai Bernam is agreed as the natural border and this tiny village happens to be divided by it. Today, the Selangor side is known as Ulu Bernam while the Perak side is Tanjong Malim.

New KFC in town! Tanjung Malim

Nicely refurbished, renovated and re-built KFC in TM town :-) Yay!

Ah... Ice-cold Milo! Bliss :-)

Approx. RM$14 for bag of fries, two drumsticks, and two milos .... No one said that KFC was cheap these days, and it ain't. But what you get is THE BEST KFC original recipe in the world ... ever :-) We ordered a side helping of cheesy wedges, and as Anthony Bourdain and his brethen pointed out, this AIN'T real cheese :-)

I am glad D was well amused by his Delivery Boy toy, left his bro S with the Chicken Chef :-) with "action-omelette-pan"!

Nasi Lemak at Gerai Haji Din, Tanjung Malim police station

Another visit home to TM, means a stop over at Gerai Haji Din opposite the TM police station.

I have returned here many a time since my first visit back in February this year and I am still impressed every time by the simplicity, freshness of the rice and egg, crunchiness of the long beans, and consistency of the sweet sambal. Fabulous!

L had half-boiled eggs instead, less sinful :-)

Return to Wang Chiew, Seapark - SS2

Add: 30, Jalan SS2/103, PJ
Tel: +603 7722 3662

The rather incomparable Wang Chiew was our dinner venue late one evening ... Thanks to A and KT for joining us :-) Beermonster couldn't make it, alas...

Xiong tong Spinach ... bit of soup and vege. Ah ... nice!

Curry tofu ... another signature dish here. Yummy!

Pai kuat wong, always an excellent choice here!

Signature crayfish ... Not as good as on previous nights!

Do make reservations before-hand, you can see they have even prepared a sign that says "FULL" as they are on most nights!

Yalumba Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

A good value Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa Valley, this bottle retails for RM$55 at your local Jusco.

My verdict ... Light drinking with little body, a good "movie" wine!

Pisang Goreng Ah Sow - Taman Eng Ann, Klang

Not far from Alliance Bank, on the corner of the Eng Ann Klang square, you will spot this humble road-side goreng pisang stall, serving some excellent Pisang Goreng aka Banana Fritters / Fried bananas.

Do you smell what the Rock is cooking .... ;-)

RM$0.30 each ... or get a bag of six for RM$1. Dirt cheap. Bloody good!

Aunty, is a third generation popiah maker, and moved her stall here 13-years ago. She learned the trade from her grandma who was in Sekinchang.
Uncle was making some popiah alongside ... :-)

Kee Heong Bak Kut Teh, Eng Ann - Klang

One very special afternoon a year, three months, and two weeks ago ... I visited Eng Ann Klang's KEE HEONG for the first time, and today ... dad wanted to make a return visit :-)

I am cutting back on the Yau Char Kuey, but dad insisted on having some ...

Fat ... or lean ... The choice is yours :-) Not my favourite BKT, but still decent and well loved by many, I personally prefer Berkeley's, Pandamaran's, Teluk Pulai's and the one near Pawagam Seri Intan Klang.

I figured the very herbal-y test Bak Kut Teh served at Kee Heong is due to the infusion of kei-chee, that's the red spice on top of the right-hand piece of pork below! Had to becareful not to get my Canon G9 too close to the shot, as the macro is capable of a 1cm shot! Shudder... pork-stained lens :-)

You know in most clubs and pubs, if you order a bottle (and you should) of Macallan or similar liquors, and you don't finish the bottle before you leave, you get a bottle custody card, and they store it in a cabinet ... well, similar system here, except the storage is for TEA! Yes, precious tea of the patrons :-) I also noticed a bottle of ABC or XYZ or XKL tablets, perhaps for carbo-burning!!!?

Doktor Cermin - Bintang, Setengah bulan, Mata lembu and Retak

Anything can be fixed ...

Call Doktor Cermin!
Bintang, Setengah bulan, Mata lembu, Retak and more!

Beware! Pregnant Mom on board

A bloke was driving this car, spotted in Klang ... of course :-)

ps - The car sticker on the back windscreen says, "Pregnant MOM on board!"

Ginger steamed fish and superb Pineapple at Hou Moon, Goh Hock Huat - Klang

Another superb makan place in Klang town ...

Add: 34 & 36, Jalan Hip Hing, off Jalan Goh Hock Huat, Klang
Tel: +603 3343 0467
Opening hours: 9.30am - 3.30pm (Monday - Friday) ; 9.30am - 3.30pm & 6pm - 9pm (Saturday / Sunday). Close on alternate Thursdays.

The signature dish amazed me, the deep Bentong-ginger infused steamed fish :-) Glorious! We also ordered some roast duck, which was good, and a dish of excellent fried long beans and brinjal.

Some history from rasarasa.net
IN THE over 20 years since it opened in 1986, Hou Moon has transformed itself almost completely from a roast duck rice restaurant to one selling primarily seafood. Roast duck is still being sold but only at a rather inconspicuous corner. Today, if someone walks in, it is most likely that he is pointed to steamed fish and prawns on the menu.
Hou Moon was located in the initial 12 years along Lebuh Gopeng. It was moved to the present premises in 1998. The owners, Chai Pak Chuen and wife Yeoh Kim Lian, come from a family involved in the food business – which partly explains why Hou Moon could transform so radically so fast. For this reason, one can also expect very fresh seafood here.

Aunt G, with her deep local knowledge, ordered half a pineapple for dessert (aka 2 slices, cut into little chunks) which was incredibly deep in flavour and sweetness despite its lack of colour. Yes, its pale, but boy was it juicy!

Mr Wee's Porsche Cayenne!

An appropriate car plate if your family name is ... Wee :-)

Note: This Porsche Cayenne was spotted in Damansara Uptown :-)

Also located: Alongside Tiam Yam Toh Teng senior citizens home, beside the Fairy Park Funeral Parlour (Irony of it...!)
Also known as: Gerai Makan Jalan Solok Baru

Xheng Lee ... faded BKT signboard, but the taste is hardly fading!

What are these aunties, ooops sisters, up to ...

They prepare each pot ... each bowl ... of BKT individually, you can even have the "dry" variety if you so wish, made with ginger slices, dried chilli and lots of thick black sauce. I prefer the soup variety served here :-) Ah... yummy!

My dear L prefers the claypot variety, as does V :-) Here's a pot of pork BKT as well as a claypot of button mushrooms - lettuce - fu peh.
Verdict! Excellent if you like the "lighter" variety of BKT, it ranks up there with the best ones served at Teluk Pulai and the like :-)

This aunty has been operating here for ages!

Deeeelicious goodies :-)

The roast duck is good, but what makes it excellent is the very-old-style and traditional minced-beans gravy :-)

If you like slightly-fat and sticky-sweet char siew, this is the place for you :-) divine!

Where is the nucleus of great food in Klang?

Brave the Klang traffic (Late 2007 - Mid 2010) and travel to "X" in the map below, in the heart of Klang, just before the new bridge ... and you will find not one good thing, but MANY GOOD THINGS to eat :-)

This humble area, ouses some of Klang's finest foods in my opinion, and it wasn't until Aunty G pointed it out to me recently did I realise :-)
ps - Not long ago, a legend operated from here, the now-big-time-but-as-humble-as-ever Peng Hiong Hakka Pai Kuat which has moved to a much larger fancy shoplot down the road!

Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G - Test Drive

Previous review: Showroom spy shots!

Had the pleasure of spending a morning driving the near-top-of-the-range new Corolla (1.8G spec, which includes EVERYTHING except leather), and it really surprised me! The owner had specced her car with the additional RM$1,500 bodykit which was money well-spent.

The 16" inch rims rode very differently from the equivalent sized numbers on a Honda Civic 1.8S, which is firmer. The Corolla was really a "baby Camry", so comfortable over our heavily rutted roads!
I was surprised by the inclusion of a sequential gear-shift on this model, just flick the gear lever (a nice positive action I have to add!) to the right, and raise up a gear "+" or lower a gear "-", and the transmission reacts accordingly. However, the Corolla is still a car to be driven smoothly and comfortably, as compared to the much sportier Civic. The choice is yours!

Parking is a doddle with the Park Distance Control, yes it even includes front sensors. Just click the button labelled "P" below and voila! I also found the muted-orange indicator lighting eg. on the A/C and Circulation very soothing, and the interior of the Corolla is simply a great place to be in!
Overall, it was a really good driving experience, and one that surprised me.
The "plus" points ... Comfort, specification, conservative looks, excellent resale value (one day!).
The negatives ... Not as sporty as the Civic, overly conservative looks especially when parked alongside a sexy Civic, and engine was slightly unresponsive (But that may have been because this particular drive I enjoyed had only 4,000km on the clock).

Simon Yam - Canon ambassador was in town!

Born March 19, 1955 (1955-03-19) @ Hong Kong ... I found it hard to believe that Simon Yam's 54! Check out the photos below ...

Wikipedia ... The son of a former police officer of Shangdong heritage. His father was a Hong Kong Royal Police ship captain who was murdered by his colleague.
Yam's career began as a male supermodel, before he turned to acting in the mid 1970s. He then signed with TVB, starring and co-starring in a number of TV series prior to "apply his trades" in the movies in 1987. His elder brother is Deputy Commissioner of Police Yam Tak-Wing.

In 1989, he starred in the Japanese-Hong Kong co-production of Bloodfight. This was the first of its kind in which English was spoken throughout the entire film. In 1992, Yam gained critical acclaim for his role as the maniacal Judge in Full Contact, where he faced off in a bloody battle against Chow Yun-Fat. In 1993, he starred as "Dhalsim" in Future Cops, Wong Jing's Hong Kong parody of Street Fighter. In 1996, Simon began his role as Chiang Tin-Sung, the leader of the Hung Hing triads in the first 3 installments of Young and Dangerous. In 2000, Yam starred as the king of vampires in ATV's television series My Date with a Vampire 2. In 2003, Yam made his American film debut with the action packed sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life as a henchman opposite Angelina Jolie.
He is currently married to Chi Chi, an international model and a spokesperson for SKII with whom he has a daughter, Ella.

We found him to be jovial, personable and observant too! He wanted to know how good my Blackberry Curve was :-) and said he wanted to get one. Haha!

Lotus Elise S - Up close and personal, a test drive!

The Series 2 Lotus Elise has been in production from 2002 till present. This was my first encounter with a Lotus, and one I shall never forget!

Wikipedia ... The design philosophy of Lotus is "Performance through light weight", first adopted by the founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman. The motto drives Lotus to obtain performance with lightweight cars instead of high power outputs, emphasizing driving purity and dynamics. The Elise S with a 134 bhp (100 kW; 136 PS) , 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE engine and 5 speed manual gearbox (0-60 mph in 5.8s, top speed 127 mph (204 km/h).

My first impressions ... Low slung, sleek, and absolutely gorgeous!

I want one!

Some close-ups...
New rear lights, and a "little" boot!

The Toyota-sourced 1.8 litre normally aspirated engine, the VVTi kick-in at about 5,000 rpm really brings live to the engine! The hood is surprisingly easy to take off and put back on!

Some interior shots, all taken with my Nikon D80 and Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Focused, basic and simply marvellous!

Magical ... yummm!

TW taking me out for a spin ... what a ride!

I had a chance to drive this beauty! Thanks to TW for the lesson on heading into a bend at 130km/h in 4th, caressing the brake pedal, and quick-shifting the gear up to 3rd, turning-in and taking the bend at 100km/h, at 5,500rpm ... Swwwwwwweeeeeet. The S grips like mad on its Yokohamas!

And back to Terra Firma, time for some GT5!

Add: 19 1st Floor, Jalan SS15/ 4, Subang Jaya
Located: Above Umetei Bento House , and alongside Noodle Station
Tel: +603 5632 9312
Opening Hours: 12pm - 10pm

A restauranteur I recently met, who's in the Japanese food business, highly recommended Sumi-Ka ... so we searched Subang Jaya for this restaurant.

Alas, L and I didn't have a booking, so we ended up seating on the balconey, away from the "yakitori" atmosphere where one could observe the preparation and cooking. Somehow, the ambience seating outside was dull, and probably highlighted how plain the food was here.

Lots of fresh cabbage with a simple dressing was served...

We ordered various yakitori / Japanese satay sticks ... including chicken thigh, chicken breast, beef tongue etc.

This is the Uzura Tamago (Grilled Quail Eggs)

Rice ... bland!

I didn't quite appreciate how "loong" aka burnt the Yaki Onigiri (Tosted Rice Balls) was!

Good! Mackerel fish simply grilled.

Brinjal ... pretty decent too.
Alas, I doubt we would return to this place, the pricing was keen at RM$65 for the two of us, but the service was only average, and they sat us outside. Perhaps we should make a reservation to sit inside next time!

Hmmm, what further delights can Sumo find us on Singapore's east coast?

Cool ... "little" paos! They were each roughly 6cm in diameter, or half the size of "normal" char siew paos.

Convenient to eat, dainty to look at ... and with a lovely skin and filling, these paos are a winner! About SGD$7 for ten.

Duck Porridge and Balestier Road Hoover Rojak, Whampoa Makan Plaza - Singapore

Add: Liang zhao ji, Block 90 Whampoo Drive, #01-07 Whampoo Drive food centre, Singapore

Wanna queue up for food? This seems to happen at ALL the "institutional" food stalls in Singapore!

As you can see, Hoover Rojak is located alongside the famous yam rice - duck stall, so Sumo ordered us some as a starter ... Pretty good, I liked the century egg!

After a long wait (The queue... the queue!), our dishes arrived. Good teochew braised duck, but not spectacular.
The yam rice ... Can't wait to let Sumo try the much smoother version at Taman Chi Liung in Klang
We were in Singapore, so my choice of drink (by default ... I like it!) was obviously Sugar Cane with a squeeze of Lemon!

What delights taste buds from Clarke Quay to Chelsea?

Tiger ... ah, but then!?

The street received its name because during the 1840s, there were numerous sago factories on the street. pith of the rumbia palm and made into flour that is used to make cakes. During the 1850s, there were thirty sago factories in the town which had a total output of 8,000 tons annually. Many of the sago factories were in the Sago Street area. In the late 19th century, the area was well known for its number of prostitute dens. By 1901, there were 14 brothels on the street alone. In the later part of the 20th century, the brothels vacated Sago Street and the shophouses underwent restoration in the 1990s.
The Cantonese call the street "little temple street" because of the tua peh kong temple located there. The Hokkiens (Min Nan speakers) refer the street as gu chia chui hi hng koi cheng koi, meaning "the street in front of the theatre (street) in Kreta Ayer".
The funeral parlours are located on nearby Sago Lane and not Sago Street. However, Sago Street is always referred as sei yang gai or "street of the dead" in Cantonese. There are many cemeteries there.

Each-A-Cup Bubble Tea, Marine Parade - Singapore

Located: Marine Parade, Singapore
Price: A bargain! Ice Blended with pearl or jelly - SGD$1.50, or how about Smoothies with pearl or jelly - SGD$1.80

Each-a-cup Bubble Tea, described as "Natural, healthy, fresh, low-fat, and hygienic"!

This place serves "genuine" tea shake and ice blended teas, what was interesting was the "small pearls" which is different from the typical LARGE pearls served at Malaysia's Yippee Cup . Whilst I like the smaller pearls served here, I preferred the drinks at Yippee!

Lian Hing Tai Chau, Sungai Chua - Kajang

Add: Kedai Kopi Lian Hing - 1941 Jln Sungai Chua, Kajang

Great start to the meal ... Chicken in soup, with lots of ginger. Very tasty! But pity they included the "chicken poot" aka backside (!) in the soup. Hmm, anyone wants this select piece!?

Average cabbage stir fried with har-mai, but much better Chinese bacon (Lean pieces of pork which is deep fried with a sticky red-sauce) in sweet sauce (Seems this is their signature dish!).

Oh oh ... disaster. The steamed pomfret had a soggy-texture, but the lady-boss quickly took it back when we told her, and offered us another fish dish. Good customer service!

Sliced fish with spring onions and ginger ... Average.

Decent value meal at this tai-chau (big chinese fry-up) restaurant which we found along the main road leading into Kajang, RM$50 for the three of us.

Nilai Springs Golf - Dinner's on me!

Our champion of the day, taking 7 holes!

In second place, winning 6 holes ...

I managed 5 holes, bah... lost it on the last two holes. Alas, my driving was horrendous all day, shot a dismal 62 on the front nine, and salvaged a 53 on the back nine. As the person who ended last, I bought dinner. My pleasure :-)

We kept finding the sand all day!

Opening soon, on the 9th of June, 2009 ... The nine-storey 183-room Nilai Springs Resort Hotel.
