The Simpsons : Movie (2007)

Source: DVD (SS2)

Purchased this months ago, but only just watched it over the weekend. I should have watched it earlier, one of 2007's most brilliant films! "See our family. And feel better about yours" about says it all ... heh heh!

Just like on tele, the stars ....
Dan Castellaneta (Amongst others Homer / Itchy / Barney / Grandpa and dozens of other characters!)
Julie Kavner ... Marge Simpson / Selma / Patty
Nancy Cartwright ... Bart / Maggie / Ralph / Nelson etc
Yeardley Smith ... Lisa
Hank Azaria ... Professor Frink / Comic Book Guy / Moe / Chief Wiggum and more!
Harry Shearer ... Scratchy / Mr Burns / the brilliant Ned Flanders and many more!!

ps - One of the BEST SCENES from this movie ...
Marge: How did the pig tracks get on the ceiling?
[cuts to Homer holding a pig to the ceiling]
Homer: [singing Tune to Spider-Man Theme Song]
Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig. / Does whatever a Spider-Pig does. / Can he swing /
from a web? / No he *can't*, / He's a pig. / Look out! / He is the Spider-Pig!

pps - Incredible laughs a minute film, with more memorable quotes!

Mayor Quimby: I hereby declare a state of emergency: Code Black.
Lenny: Black? That's the worst color there is.
[Lenny turns to Carl, his black friend]
Lenny: No offense there, Carl.
Carl: I get it all the time.

Colin: I'm Colin.
Lisa Simpson: I haven't seen you at school
Colin: Just moved from Ireland. My dad's a musician.
Lisa Simpson: Is he...?
Colin: He's not Bono.
Lisa Simpson: I just thought because you're Irish and you care about...
Colin: He's NOT Bono.

Porridge, 1toEat Kopitiam - Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Add: Jalan Batu Nilam 3, Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Hmm, I am starting to visit this particular kopitiam in Bukit Tinggi a couple of times a week!

Highly ordinary ... but it was only RM$3.50. Kon loh noodles (meehoon + mee) with minced pork and mushrooms, with a bowl of fishball soup.

My chap-fan, oops porridge meal below ... came up to RM$8.40. Not cheap, but I did have 3 cocktail sausages in tomato ketchup, minced pork with stewed potatoes, French beans (the only eeeky item! the rest were OK), and Tofu with mushrooms, as well as Paper wrapped chicken. All this with a large bowl of white porridge.

BMW E60 ACS5 - AC Schnitzer Kit in White

What's this approaching me ...?

Had to react fast to get a shot of the side ... this was taken near Port Klang. Nice AC Type IV rims, 18"s (or even 19"s?) perhaps.

Great AC Schnitzer ACS5 full bodykit conversion ... Original? Who knows!

ps - Not too shabby a plate too ... WLK1 !

You don't mess with The Zohan (2008)

Source: DVD (Chow Yang, SS2)

Written by ... and starring ... one of my fave actors ever, Adam Sandler!

Managing to keep up with the genius Adam Sandler (Only Jim Carrey comes remotely close to his comic genius!) is Rob Schneider as Salim.

And ... equally brilliant, is John Turturro as The Phantom!

"He's silky, smooth and harder than trigonometry!"
Described in IMDB.com as "This is the story about a Mossad agent Zohan Dvir, who fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist. He romances his clients by giving them "special services" in the back room. However, he is eventually recognized, and risks losing his newfound life and career"

All I can say is ... MAGNIFICENT!!
In the genre of Ben Stiller's Zoolander, this is potentially JUST AS GOOD! A laugh a minute, with fantastic one-liners and political insensitivities :-)

Proton Waja modified BMW tail lamp

Does the rear lamps on this modified Proton Waja look familiar!?

I thought it did ... Its a copy of the facelift E60 5-series Beemer's!

Home cooked Sweet and Sour Fish

Here are some shots during preparation time ...

Presenting ... Yanna's sweet and sour fish. SLURP!

Steamed chicken ... mmmmh!

Some other simple but delicious dishes...

In yesteryears, I used to like this combo of 'raw' oyster sauce on my rice too ... not for me anymore!

Oren jus kosong aka Fresh orange juice with NO SUGAR , and NO ICE ... fabulous.

To finish off the meal ... Pak Kor Yee Mai (Gingko nut and Barley with Beancurd skin). So good!

Nice Olympic theme on the current batch of cans!

When Batman came for dinner!

Hmmm ... When batman came for dinner!

Good job, dad!

Silly fella kept hanging on ... just didn't wanna get away. Well, eventually he did!!

ps - Back to the Batcave!?

Two very special and precious Papayas!

These two papayas took nearly a decade to blossom / fruit at my folks' home :-)

It was worth the wait ... so sweet and juicy. Coco agreed!

Oops ... these are the shots! Coco just couldn't wait :-)

Pollution and haze over Shah Alam

Beijing at the 2008 Olympics is not the only victim to pollution ... Sigh!

Roast Duck @ Restoran Hoppy, SS2 PJ

On a closer look... Quite frightening!!

Wow, they have so many branches!?

Yum ... nice and simple. 'Kosong' (Plain) Kon Loh Mee @ RM1.50 each.

Roast duck and char siew (RM$16) - Duck was rather excellent, the char-siew mediocre.

Some other dishes, which were only average ...
Sui Kow (RM$4), Fried Wan Tan (RM$5), and Stir fried poh lay sang choy (Vegetables @ RM$6).

Economy rice @ Sin Hup Seng, Seapark PJ

Add: Restoran Sin Hup Seng @ 23, Jln 21/1, PJ

Not too far from the previously mentioned Wei Xiang at Seapark is another Chap Fan or Economy Rice stall ... This one has nearly as many different dishes, and tastes ... hmmm, 70% as good (which makes it darn good in its own right!).
For under RM$5, you can have ... Steamed minced pork, stir fried Siew Yoke, cabbage and the must-have baked beans with egg! We love chap fan!!

Of cut fruits and bits and pieces ... Seapark, PJ

Alongside the famous Wei Xiang chap-fan stall, well across the road, are these little hawker stalls ... Here lies my favourite cut-fruit stall (Old uncle, not the younger guy who runs another stall on the left - Uncle's is on the right). Sweet and great value at RM$1 a piece, for example Hawaiian papaya (half-slice).

There's also a Taiping restaurant along this road, whilst the food is good, the nick-nacks aren't so good ... Eeep, don't waste your carbs on crappy foods as Brother Chris always tells us! He's so right!

Wei Xiang - Best Economy rice in PJ!

Great value and so tasty ... the queues are testament to this ... at about RM$4-5 a plate.

Lo Hong Ka - Aloe Vera Drink

Hope this helps cool me down ...

ps - Even if it doesn't, this Lo Hong Ka product tastes real good, with real aloe bits!

Trying to soothe me aching throat ... so it was time for some Lemon Tea with Honey (RM$2.50), didn't seem to work but at least it tasted good. Also tried the Soursop juice aka Durian Belanda (RM$3.50)!

Decent Assam Laksa with Meehoon (RM$4.90) ...
Paklikopitiam.com.my has the following description - Asam laksas have become local favourites - special rice noodle with uniquely aromatic and subtlely spiced gravies.

Really good Kaya toast with Butter and Kaya. RM$1.60 each. Possibly one of the best in PJ area. So good ... we actually ordered it twice!
Paklikopitiam.com.my describes this as ... Not to be missed - our crispy brown bread combined with our freshly-made pandan kaya make this irresistible!

ps - Best of all, the CUSTOMER SERVICE from the waiter was excellent, and it was a really nice simple supper!

La Boheme Bakery, AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang

Highly mediocre pastry items (Butter croisant - Poor! Sausage pizza roll - Average) from La Boheme located outside the Jusco supermarket at AEON Bukit Tinggi Mall in Klang.

Nissan Silvia S15 - Immaculate in white

Wasn't easy to keep up this immaculate Silvia on the highway leading from Port Klang to the Kesas! I personally think this is one of the prettiest cars in his genre and generation, better looking then the Mazda RX-7 and the Toyota Supra.

Wikipedia...
The Nissan Silvia is the name given to the company's long-running line of sport coupes based on the Nissan S platform. Although recent models have shared this chassis with other vehicles produced by Nissan (most notably the European 200SX and North American 240SX in the S13 and S14 generations, and 180SX in the Japanese market), the name Silvia is not interchangeable with the chassis codes.

Japan saw a new version of the Silvia (S15) in 1999, now boasting 250 hp (184 kW) from its SR20DET engine, thanks to a ball bearing turbocharger upgrade, as well as improved engine management. The SR20DE (non-turbo motor) featured only 165 hp (121 kW).
The S15 Silvia included aggressive styling inside and out; upgrades to the chassis and suspension, including increased use of light alloy suspension components; and for the first time, a six-speed manual transmission (in addition to a 5-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic). Also for the first time, instead of a viscous limited slip differential, the S15 offered a more effective helical limited slip unit.

The S15 Silvia model lineup was initially simplified to just the Spec-S (non-turbo) and Spec-R (turbo), both models offering an "Aero" variant with a large rear wing and mild ground effects.

As of 2002, Nissan stopped producing the S platform with the S15-series Nissan Silvia being the final variant.

Nasi Lemak behind Hong Leong, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

What does RM$2 buy you in Klang?
How about a pack of Nasi Lemak bungkus , freshly prepared , at the mamak stall behind Hong Leong Bank (No. 68, Lorong Batu Nilam 4A, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang). Pretty decent stuff!

Tel: +603 7727 1399
Opening hours: Mon-Fri (11am-11pm) , Sat & Sun (10.30am-11.30pm)

I am not the biggest fan of its pastas and pizzas, but our diving kaki Angeline L said ... MUST TRY THE CREME BRULEE. So we did :-)

This was MAGICAL ... the BEST creme brulee we have ever had!
Thanks for the tip, Angie!!

The manager saw me snapping these shots, and was very polite and friendly. He recommended the Tiramisu, but alas they had sold out for the day. Next time!
All washed down with some ... Gold Blend tea (Boh).
Shutter speed 1/400s with a Canon G9 and internal flash produced these shots :-)

Jack's Place - Steaks @ One Utama, PJ

My first visit to Jack's Place in Malaysia ... brings back memories of my O-Level days with Jack and my Oldham bros, and visiting the outlet in Serene Centre, Singapore!

Prawn cocktail - Eeeeep, pure mayo! Part of my set meal.
Some creamy soup (Corn?) - Also poor, and part of my set meal.

My steak! It was rather good, and at under RM$40 for a set-meal which included a large chunk of sizzling steak, I couldn't quite complaint. Pity only the STEAK was good, and the starter/dessert was poor to say the least.

Truly dissapointing ... the Lobster Pizza. As my partner in crime asked me ... "What lobster!"

My set meal included a scoop of unknown-origin creamy-super sweet ice-cream, duh!

Overall, I have to say that ONLY the steaks are good, I don't understand how it could have been in operation since 2005 with so few customers there ... AND, the waitresses must learn NOT to stand next to the one or two tables which are actually occupied and chit-chat etc. Tsk tsk ... BAD!

ps - Here's an article from 2005 (The Star 'Kuali') ... JACK’S Place Holdings Pte Ltd, the parent company of one of Singapore’s best-loved and most enduring eateries (Founded in the 1960s) – Jack’s Place Steak House & Restaurant – is extending its reach and has opened its first outlet in Malaysia.

Champion Duck and Hokkien Mee, Damansara Utama

Add: The Champion Duck Restaurant @ 30, SS21/35, Damansara Utama, PJ
Located: Row behind HSBC
Opening hours: 4pm - 2am

Looks like the banner identifying this shop as Ah Wah Hokkien Mee has been removed, wonder if the 'genuine' Ahwa at Jalan 222 has been giving them death threats!

Champion Duck is the name of the shop ... and the duck is delicious! Tender and tasty.

Dunno about mee ... but the Hokkien Meehoon is incredible! Perfectly cooked and tastes heavenly.

Cantonese style was much poorer :-( Not enough taste!

Kedai Kopi Khoong - Breakfast @ Seapark, PJ

Add: Kedai Kopi Khoong @ Jalan 21/12. Sea Park, PJ
Located: This corner shop is located behind the Seapark Market, alongside the Sunday street stalls.

Loh mai kai - Very average.

Masak-masak describes this as ... Woon Chai Koh which is what we term it in Kuala Lumpur since everyone speaks Cantonese is actually steamed rice flour cakes topped with preserved radish. The term Woon means "bowl", Chai means "radish" and Koh means "Cake" in the Cantonese dialect. In Singapore, they term it differently as it is known as Chwee Kueh.
It wasn't to her liking, but it turns out to be my FAVOURITE version of this dish in PJ :-) So smooth, and do ask for extra radish topping, yummmm!

Porridge - Good!

Minced pork noodles - Now, this is goooood stuff!

Ipoh Hor Fun - This shredded chicken noodles used to be rather famous, but I didn't quite like it. Was too bland, and not 'prawny' or sweet enough!

Best fried rice @ Bagan Hailam, Port Klang

I love this simple eatery at Bagan Hailam, down the road from Port Klang Golf Club and Port Village Restaurant. Rustic, and very delicious!

Some 'accessories' to start ... fish cakes and the most delicious poh-piah this side of Klang!

Some of the best Fried Rice ... ever! Check out the dripping egg yolk, mmmh...

Ps - When you are looking for this eatery, just walk past the temple, there are 2 stalls, the one I prefer is the one further inside, by the waterside.

Interesting choice of english words for this sign!

Restoran Hainan Curry Rice, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Add: Restoran Hainan Curry Rice @ 26 Lorong Batu Nilam 3C, Bukit Tinggi, Klang
Located: Faces open field area, same row as Ulu Yam Lor Mee.

Once I had been here once, I can't stop coming back for the good value and home-cooked tasting food!

No frills, but is usually quite windy and pleasant.

Curry Rice - Slurp!

Cabbage (RM$2) and Egg plant (RM$2) - Nice and simple.

Hainan charsiew and Spring roll (RM$3 + RM$3.50) - Always delicious!
Spicy sotong (RM$3.30) - Good!

Hainan curry chicken (RM$3) - Really yummy.

And... to finish off the meal, couldn't leave without enjoying the combo of coffee and their delicious kaya toast!

Durians from AEON Bukit Tinggi Jusco Klang

Half priced durians at AEON Bukit Tinggi mall @ Jusco, Klang.

RM$9 ... hmm, is that reasonable?

Getting over the first 'smell' (I don't normally eat durians!), it was actually quite bearable and enjoyable to savour the bitter-ish creamy taste.

Shihlin Street Snacks, AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang

A simple shop that only sells about 5 different types of food, which I first enjoyed at One Utama

Handmade Oyster Mee Sua - Too strong in flavour once again, and this time the baby oysters tasted a wee bit bad! Eeew.

Haha... I love this sign!

This XXL Chicken most definitely does NOT travel well, and I think I am growing off the taste ... Sigh! Previous review of AEON Bukit Tinggi branch

Hibiscus deco and Kiwi fruit packaging, Jusco Klang

These are the lovely paper/plastic hibiscus flowers which will greet you as you walk into one of the entrances of AEON Bukit Tinggi Mall aka Jusco Klang.

Always enjoy the Herbal Jelly outside Jusco, on the ground floor. Slurp!

I popped into Jusco for a moment, and had a good chuckle at how Kiwi fruits were packed up like eggs these days!

Sirap (RM$2.60) ... and the Laici Limau (Rip off at RM$6)

Nasi Lemak (RM$2 each) - Good value, very tasty sambal.

Kangkung Belacan (RM$6) - Average

Ikan Kerapu Sweet and Sour - RM$14. Great value! Yummy.

Udang Tiga Rasa (RM$31) - Three flavour prawns, very good and fresh too.

Otak Otak (RM$6) - Average only. Too doughy and flour-y.
ps - Thanks for the birthday treat, H ... RM$74 in all. Nice setting, good food, no complaints :-)

Sunset over Port Klang

And finally, at 07:20 pm ... The sun sets on another day.

Cengkih Restaurant, Hartamas - Best Pantai Timur malay food!

Best East Coast Malay food in KL? You better believe it! I would best describe this place as nasi campur or the Malay equivalent of 'Economy Rice' or 'Chap fan'. Very very popular!

SLURP! The lady will give you some rice, put at least 3 or 4 of the different kuahs / gravy / curries on your rice, and top it up with some vege and fried chicken. That's how we do it!

The signature dish? Definitely the Ayam Kampung. Fried Village chicken, that is incredibly tasty and has a lovely texture.

ps. Don't let the bad parking situation at lunch-hour put you off, the food is excellent and its worth being patient to find a lot!

Ayam kampung menu istimewa
Oleh FUAD HADINATA YAACOB
Harian Metro, 9 Julai 2006

Over her Dead Body (2008)

Source: DVD (SS2)

Hmm, I was surprised that despite the excellent cast, I found this film a little 'wooden' and predictable. It does have a couple of funny moments, but besides the cast I didn't find a whole lot to get excited about!

The excellent cast ...
Eva Longoria Parker ... Kate (aka the Ghost, aka the Bride who was killed by the Angel)
Paul Rudd ... Henry
Lake Bell ... Ashley
Jason Biggs ... Dan (Yes, Biggs from American Pie infamy!)

What was rather dissapointing ... Eva Longoria Parker seems to be better suited for Desperate Housewives and television, and I found certainly elements of her performance irritating, but I guess that may have been what this film called for!

The chemistry between Paul Rudd and Lake Bell seemed to work though, and there were good if not excellent performances from Jason Biggs and Lindsay Sloane (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch). I would merely describe this film as passable!

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)

Source: DVD (SS2)
"This time they're running from the joint!"

I didn't find this as brilliant as 2004's classic, Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle, but nevertheless this film still served out laughs a minute. However, it didn't seem to be as spontaneous, but be prepared to drift in and out of madness!! Haha :-) That certainly is the Harold and Kumar formula!

Always in their element and genuinely funny..
John Cho ... Harold Lee
Kal Penn ... Kumar Patel
And introducing ...
Rob Corddry ... Ron Fox
Roger Bart ... Dr. Jack Beecher
AND, James Adomian ... Pres. George W. Bush

Best songs? Check out Heaven is a Place on Earth (Belinda Carlisle) and Danger Zone (Kenny Loggins) in the film! Heh heh :-)

BEWARE! VULGAR!! Best one-liners? (Thanks to imdb.com)

Big Bob: You boys ready for your c*ckmeat sandwich?
Harold Lee: Uh, no.
Big Bob: Well you better get hungry real fast... because I've got a whole lotta sandwich waiting for you!

Kumar Patel: [to illegal immigrant] I'm telling you Jorge, the first thing you have to do when you get to America - buy a device called TiVo. Okay? Freedom means nothing if you're a slave to regular programming. I promise you that.

Harold Lee: After all the shit we've been through, I don't... I don't know if we can trust our government anymore.
George W. Bush: Trust the government? Heck, I'm in the government and I don't even trust it. You don't have to believe in your government to be a good American. You just have to believe in your country.

Overall, the food was great, setting lovely and service immaculate. Will be back!

ps - Some notes I found from the restaurant's website ..
Established in 2003 and recently refurbished, this charming down-to-earth and unpretentious restaurant offers you a warm and cozy hideaway to wine, dine and to celebrate any occasion. With the choice of dining in airy decks and terraces, overlooking foliage, and comforted by sounds of running water or in the air-conditioned comforts of our dining floor or private rooms, you determine the experience you’ll want to discover with us.
The food is fusion but with added local twists for the brisk business lunches. But whether it is one or the other, Executive Chef Alex ensures excellence for the palate and the eye, for here at the Courtyard Garden, food and ambiance stand on high equal regard.

Coliseum Cafe, KL - Funny quotes and Historical!

I have really cool friends, just a couple days ago they found out I had never set foot in what is probably The Culinary Institution of Kuala Lumpur, and they insisted that we went to try it out!

I heard so many stories along the car journey there about how their parents used to have their dates there, as well as how the waiters and their uniforms had not changed over the years! As for the food ... there was only going to be one choice, the Hainanese chicken chop.
I was actually simply hoping that it'd be a more memorable experience then the rather poor food at Yut Kee along Jalan Dang Wangi , the 'other' institution!

Add: 98 – 100, Jalan Tuanku Abd Rahman, KL
Located: Along Jalan Tuanku Abd Rahman on the left after the Swiss Hotel. Very close to Kamdar and Sogo mall.

Opening hours: 10:00am - 10:00pm

GPS Coordinates: N3 09.200 E101 41.783
(Thanks to Foodpoi.com, I still don't have a GPS to verify!)
Ps. Perhaps ML, CCY or H can verify for me! They've got fancy GPS devices and brand new Nokias after all, hmm ...

The menu and the waiters with their protocol of insisting that drink orders be taken by someone else (the food orders were taken by another waiter) say it all about the place ... 1921. 87 years old, and dates back to the first World War! Wow... I guess, "Hey, why change!".

I was reminded that the table cloths here had probably NEVER been changed over the years, haha ... As well as the waiters' uniforms! Nice rustic charm I reckon :-)

What's the difference? Well it certainly tastes different!
On the left ... Fresh mixed shandy (RM$7), and on the right Lager Lime (RM$7).
Cool quote ... Tommy Ang (Our waiter, "Don't call me uncle!") told us, when we asked him how the 2 drinks were different, "I don't know. I don't drink".

Other drinks we enjoyed included Tiger Draught (RM$7.69), Ginger Ale (RM$3.80), Guava juice (RM$4.50) and Lychee juice (RM$4.90).

We were so hungry ... we had to have starters... Garlic toast (RM$2.99 each), Toast and Butter (RM$2.20).

Fresh ox-tail soup (RM$7.90 - Yummmmy!), Tomato soup (RM$5.30 - Really delicious! So simple, but fabulous). ML chose the mushroom soup (RM$5.30) which isn't pictured here.

I couldn't resist taking a few photos of the place, and all its traditional colonial charm, thanks to ML for taking the other pics!

Chinese fried spaghetti (RM$15.90) - Tasted a little like yee-mee, and was hardly spectacular.

Another cool quote ... Tommy Ang told us, when ML asked him what was the difference between the sizzling and non-sizzling steaks, "I don't know, I don't eat beef!". Hmm, I think we have a trend here. We never asked him about the other dishes!!
Grilled Tenderloin (We had 2 plates - One medium, and one medium-well) (RM$37.90) - No complaints, but looked a little ... pink!

Sizzling chicken chop with Mushroom sauce (RM$22.90) - L finished it rather quick, must have been good?

Love the old school cutlery and serving dishes ... The porcelain has seen better days (Probably in the 1920s!), but the embossed print on the edge of the plates are truly nice. Hmm, Malaysia? Guess these plates were from beyond 1957! Thought I'd see ... Malaya!

Fish concalaise (RM$17.90).

Baked crab meat (RM$16.90 each) - Very delicious and full of crab and other vege bits. L's favourite dish!

Previously I had enjoyed the version served at Kemaman, Terengganu on my dive trips to Redang, such as the one at Restoran Malaysia as well as the one at Tong Juan .

And of course the signature dish ... My choice, as well as BK's and CCY's!
Chinese Chicken Chop (RM$16.90) as they call it at Coliseum, I know it better as Hainanese Chicken chop. Very VERY good!

ML playing with my Canon G9 :-)

Fried banana with iced cream (RM$5.90) was a really good choice by BK, we gobbled this down!

The caramel pudding (RM$4) was overly sweet.

Strawberry fried ice cream (RM$5.50) - Eeeep ... a blast to the past, full of flavourings and horrid artificial-tasting!

The final bill for the seven of us ... RM$371.
Not cheap, but you do get amused by the history and waiters, as well some dishes which are exceptional, such as the Chinese Chicken Chop and the Crab!

Tommy wasn't the only character in this place of great history ... Here is an elderly waiter who seemed to keep falling asleep on his toes!

Some research revealed the following ...

JourneyMalaysia.com has a short review on the Coliseum Hotel:-
"Imagine those that would have stayed here before you. Early century European planters and miners - where there was no other place to put up the night for except here at the Coliseum. As basic as it probably was in the 1920's but for a few ringgit, it's worth a night's stay - just to experience a little bit of history. Very popular with travellers."
Room rates: Single room with fan RM 28 , Double room with fan RM 33 , Single room with air-con RM 38 , Double room with air-con RM 45.

Lonelyplanet.com has a much more playful description:-
With its famous old planters cafe and bar downstairs, the Coliseum has a potent sense of colonial history. Rooms are huge and quiet, albeit without bathrooms (some rooms have sinks), and come with ancient electric switches, tables and chairs, high ceilings and wardrobes. This atmospheric hotel is a KL institution.
Is this the Wild Wild East? The dark wood saloon doors take you through to a dusty bar that hasn't changed since the hotel opened in 1921 (it seems the staff haven't changed since then either).
Upstairs, the hotel's spacious rooms retain the inadvertent yesteryear theme with their antique fittings and disintegrating colonial charm. Hang your smoker's jacket in the high wardrobe, freshen up at the sink, take a siesta on the comfy bed, then head to the downstairs bar for a stiff gin and a natter with the hotel's greying retainers. There's even some timeless advice decorating the walls of the well apportioned restaurant, including a poster informing guests of what to do 'when your servant has malaria'. Ah, those were the days.

Finally ... Wikipedia has an entire page revoted to the theatre!
The Coliseum Theatre is a movie theater in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. One of the oldest movie theaters in the country, it was built in 1921 by the Chua family led by Chua Cheng Bok. The Art Deco-style building is capable of seating 900 people and also features a balcony.
The famed Coliseum Café and Hotel are located behind the theatre, just down the road. The oldest and continuously running cinema hall in the country (save for a break during the Japanese occupation during World War II), most of the movies premiering in the building are Indian movies.
After Chua Cheng Bok's demise in 1940, his estate continued to administer the Coliseum until its acquisition in 1973 by a company owned by his nephew Dr Chua Boon Teck and his wife Mdm Khor Joo Saik.
In 2006, the Malaysian government proposed to close the theater and turn it into a cultural heritage center, but relented when there was a public outcry to the scheme. The government later decided not to close the cinema. Instead, they planned to build a parking lot nearby. In that year, Dr Chua Seong Siew, elder son of the late owners Dr Chua Boon Teck and Mdm Khor Joo Saik, had successfully appealed for the cinema theater to remain open, and so it continues to operate to this day.
The Coliseum Theatre is one of a handful of remaining pre-war cinemas in Kuala Lumpur that still plays films. Two-storey shop buildings housing the Coliseum Café and Hotel are sat alongside.

Tea at Ritz-Carlton, KL

The Ritz-Carlton is a YTL Hotel, located in the heart of KL. A rather 'unique' Ritz-Carlton I reckon, seems smaller then the other such propeties around the world.

The four of us had some post-lunch tea there one weekend, thanks for the treat CCY! Fruit-cakes were served alongside the Earl Grey tea which came in ornate english style teapots, whilst the boys had Fresh Orange Juice and Fresh Pineapple Juice. Slurp!

Toyota Camry Aerokit in Pearl White - Wedding spec!

The latest reincarnation of the Toyota Camry, this one is the version with the full body-kit (Known as the Aerokit), in Pearl White.

If you own one of these ... I guess many will ask you to 'loan' you their car as a WEDDING CAR!

Mee hoon goreng at Bukit Tinggi, Klang

What does RM$3 buy you these days?! Not much ... A large pack of simple fried mee-hoon with a small piece of ayam masak merah!

Number One Claypot Chicken Rice, Berkeley @ Klang

Located: Berkeley gardens aka Taman Kenari, Klang. Turn right at the 'entrance' to Klang town along the Federal Highway.

Soup ... Lotus (Rather good), and Pepper pork innards/stomach (Too peppery!).

This is the BEST Ngar Poh Kai Fan aka Claypot Chicken rice ... bar none! Beautifully tasty grains of rice, great ham-yee (salted fish) flakes which are perfectly blended in, and chicken which is marinated so well. Great stuff, great comfort food! This is a serving for three, which I shared with my parents, not enough to go around, we loved it that much!

Stir fried Poh Lay Sang Choy - Yummy!

Total price for all the above, including a pot of very nice tea, about RM$30.

Ps. Also tried out the Bak Chang aka Ha Mo Chung, which was OK, but not incredible. RM$4.

BMW E90 335i 4 door sedan

Travelling along the Kesas, near Ikea one day, I saw ... Yes, it's a E90 BMW 335i 4-door sedan. Discrete in styling it may be, but the twin tail-pipes gave it away. It was idling at barely 60-70 km/h, so I had to travel EVEN slower on the left lane to take these shots!

I tried to find out the local price, but BMW.com.my only lists 320i and 325i versions, hmmm I wonder where this car travelled in from! In the USA however, the prices start at just under USD$39k (Described as ... 3.0-Liter, twin turbocharged 6-cylinder engine = 300-hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque). Here, I reckon it would be closer to RM$500k, considering that the 325i is about RM$350k and the M3 Sedan is RM$750k.

ps. More 'commonly' available, the E92 335i Coupe

Welcome Lucky and Baby!

My friends' got a new shih-tzu furkid ... Lucky ! That's her name ... Lucky. Uh ... or is HIS name!? Dunno lah! Cute nevertheless...

I had driven all the way from Klang to KL for this ... always worth it, great pork noodles, lovely pork balls and excellent sausage.

Decent Char Kuay Teow with CCY's extra 'hum' ... Hmm, RM$6. Ouch!

The Seremban Siu Bao stand also sells egg-tarts, which were dissapointing.

Looking back at the shop lots as we walked away ...

IOI Palm Garden Golf, Putrajaya - Best round ever

Course: Palm Garden Golf Club, IOI Resort @ Putrajaya
Price: RM$123 (AGS membership)
Tee off: White

Lets get straight to the results first ...
CCY's (50 + 45 = 95) and my best round ever!
We played the Putra course, followed by the Palm course .. Irons were crisp, wedges were decent including opportunities on the back 9 when I started using my brand new 60 degree Lob wedge (Titleist Vokey), driving was terrible throughout the round, and putting was decent ...
All this meant a round of 49 + 45 ... 94 !!! My lowest round to date :-)

We tee'd off on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm, perfect conditions for golf!

Cool clubs eh! Hahaa... Ultimate Driving Machine!?

There seems to be these signs in various golf courses around KL!

Bang!

Course was in great condition, we had a super time!

My new baby :-) Came to great use within 50m of the pin!

The course was littered with funny annecdotes, my favourite ...
Golf is a game in which the slowest people in the world are those in front of you,
and the fastest are those behind.

Yay, my ball stayed on the green on this Par 3 :-)

My favourite 2 shots (Photo that is!) of the day ...

Guess whose funky golf shoes these are!

Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L Modulo - Test drive!

Venue: Sumber Auto Edaran, 76B Jalan Universiti, PJ
Tel: +603 7960 2828
Sales advisor: David Le
Mobile: +6012 335 9389

Couldn't resist test driving the latest Honda Accord ... The one I chose happened to have the full Modulo spec as well as the optional grill trim and dashboard carbon fibre trim (RM$700).
1) Front under spoiler, RM$1180
2) Rear under spoiler, RM$1370
3) Side under spoler, RM$2180
4) Trunk spoiler, RM$830

This brings the Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L Modulo up to just over RM$177k.

The looks and design of the car has certainly grown on me ... especially the 3/4 front view, the front view and the side views.

The rear is the point of contention ... I think it really looks like a 7-series BMW rear, which is not the best looking of rears! However, once again, I think the Honda Accord's rear end certainly warms up in most hearts and minds. If it doesn't ... well, it's different, and dares to be so!

Standard tyres on the 2.4 are a meaty ... 225/50 R17 94V, or in simple terms 17 inch rims.

Whichever model you choose, you are guaranteed a huge boot ... Perhaps enough for 4 sets of golf clubs? Best of all, seats are also foldable such as in a hatchback, and there is even a ski hatch for long items.

Power in this model comes in the form of a 2.4 litre DOHC i-VTEC engine, whoch produces 180PS (133kW) at 6,500rpm, and 222Nm of torque at 4,300rpm. This is approximately 10% up on the 2.0VTi's powerplant.

The interior is a nice place to be in :-) Despite the centre console having many buttons, I found it easy to identify the ventilation controls etc. Standard features include ...
1) Full leather (Including 8 way power driver's seat and power lumbar support)
2) Carbon fibre trim is optional
3) Rear air conditioning vents
4) Dual air-cond temperature control
5) Premium audio system (MP3, WMA, USB)
6) Paddle shift - Yes, F1 style paddles that actually work, located on the left and right behind the steering wheel
7) Cruise control
8) Electric rear sunshade
9) Front console box with sliding arm-rests
10) Driver door panel
11) Switchable VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)
12) Six i-SRS airbags
13) HID Headlights, with auto-levelling
Finally, the test drive experience ...
I had David (the friendly and knowledgable sales advisor), CCY, BK and JL in the car with me, so we set off fully loaded ... Very comfortable, but a lack of OOMPH when I floored the accelerator. Guess it was cos' there were so many of us in the car! Nice refined exhaust note, and very refined engine and there was an obvious lack of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). Corners nicely, and very flat, great body control, and pot-holes didn't seem to unsettle the ride despite the relatively low-profile 17" tyres.
Overall ... I think this is a great car (Good looks, great equipment specification, nice drive, and heck a lotta space!), that will certainly persuade many Camry owners to switch sides!
Is it good enough for conti (Continentals, eg. BMW, Merc, Audi) owners to switch over? Hmm ... that really depends. Reliability and residuals are a big PLUS for the Accord, but the driving experience is far from a BMW!

Nissan Elgrand V6 3.5 - DR8

Not only is this a very rare MPV ... the Nissan Elgrand 3.5 V6, but check out that plate! DR8 ... A doctor?

ps - Wikipedia describes what it is ...

The new front styling ( including new chrome front grill) gives the Elgrand an enhanced sporty look that will prove its name on the highway.
The Interior is full of luxuries that will keep the user busy, with captain seats, a nine speaker Bose sound system, a DVD player with a nine inch screen etc.

BEWARE! Snatch thieves - Jalan Utara, PJ

Date: Friday, 25th July
Time: 7pm
Location: Along Jalan Utara, near Crystal Crown PJ

What I saw ...
I was stuck in a jam, whilst travelling towards Duck King at Jaya One for dinner.
I noticed a motorbike with 2 men stopped at the side of the road.
The car in front of me was a Proton Wira, with only the driver in it.
One of the 2 men on the motorbike calmly opened the door of the Proton Wira, removed what looked like her handbag, and zoomed off.
In hindsight, I noticed that the 2 men waited for the lights to change, so they had a chance to zoom off.
There was little anyone could do, as only people behind the Wira could observe what had happened, and there was no way for us to stop the 2 men as were stuck in a jam.

Made me mad, angry and sad ... but we must use this as a learning opportunity, remember ...
(1) Lock your car doors before setting off
(2) Do NOT leave valuable items on the passenger seat, or rear seats
(3) Always be wary of motorcycles stopped alongside the road
(4) Be especially CAUTIOUS when stuck in a traffic jam, ensure you keep looking at your rear and side mirrors.

Jaya One's Duck King - Whye Mun's farewell

Welcome to Juliansi.blogspot.com's 2,222nd post!

------------------------------------------------------

Looks familiar!? :-)

Add: 8-G Block M, Jaya One No.72-A Jalan Universiti , PJ
Tel: +603 7957 9819
Opening hours: 11:00am - 10:30pm

Hmm! Wasn't my family recently at this place a few days ago!?
Check out the print on the inside of the MENU ... BEWARE!

Tofu with Minced chicken - Good!
Stir fried greens - Very fresh.

Tiger Garoupa - Fantastic! Perfectly steamed and tasty ...

Rice with (yes..) Pork Lard/Oil ... Slurp! So tasty :-) Steamed rice, not the usual boiled variety, I reckon. Seems this dish used to be called "Nasi Kecap Asin Min Babi" , yes Duck King doesn't betray its indonesian origins!

Ordinary rice ... with a large dollop of superior soya sauce from the fish dish. Slurp!

Yin Yang vege ... cooked in 2 styles.

Crystal steamed chicken - Incredible! So tender ... Mmmmmh.

Hmm, the duck took a long time to arrive, nearly towards the end of our meal! Beijing aka Peking Duck - RM$62.80 for the entire duck. Tasty as always, but the skin was a little too thick on this occassion.

You get a choice of 8 or 9 different styles for preparation of the remainder of the duck ... We tried the unique 'Bun with Black Pepper Duck'. It was rather good, but I missed the XO preparation from my previous visit.

And it was on to ... desserts!
Durian pastry - Slurp! So good that Man from Sweden agrees :-)

Some other dessert ... along with some complementary fruits.

Black sesame dessert - The sesame was burnt! Oh no :-( Tasted and smelt burnt ...

And ... the most dissapointing dish of the night ... The Golden Sand buns.
Disagree! PureGlutton's blog ... The "golden sand" is actually a concoction of creamy milky custard which just oozed out like liquid heaven when you bite into it...
Also disagree! KLue.com described ... Order This: Steamed Golden Sand Bun

Time to say good night ... and farewell. Bon voyage, cousin!

Exquisite Beijing Duck @ Duck King, Jaya One

Located: Jaya One, along Jalan University across from Section 17, PJ
Tel: +603 7957 9819
Opening hours: 11am to 10pm

Thanks for the birthday treat for dad and myself, Stan!
Most of us chose the yummy Hainanese chicken rice. You can also opt for other variants of rice, how cool!

Pretty good char siew and siew yoke roast meats to start ... mmmmh, we were hungry!
The Beijing duck ... beautiful skin, great sauce, nice spring onion, and yummy duck skin.
This was the rest of the half-duck portion ... simply fried with some asparagus in XO sauce. Deeeelicious!
A fantastic vege dish, stir fried with garlic, similar to 'kau wong'. Excellent!
Tofu with Minced Chicken - Really good
Meal came up to RM$145 for the 4 of us, good value for such high quality food, thanks Stan!

Seems the dessert "steamed golden sand bun (with salted egg as the filling)" comes highly recommended, pity I didn't read about it until the day after this wonderful meal ... Hey, there's next time!
NST Online had this article ...
Located at Jaya One in Petaling Jaya, Duck King has been open for business since Feb 1. It has been well received by students and office workers in Section 17.
Having successfully opened eight Duck King outlets in various parts of Indonesia, Jimmy Liew and his partners decided to open a branch here.“We have a comprehensive menu which offers more than 50 dishes, ensuring that our patrons do not get bored with eating the same meal every day,” Jimmy said.
“We chose this location because it is strategic as there are urban housing areas in the neighbourhood which means not only students frequent the restaurant but families as well.”

Nasi Lemak before ...

A morning to reflect ... some how the nasi lemak, nor the home-made Fried chicken, tasted particularly ... tasty ... It was a somber morning.

Burgers @ Rick's Cafe Casablanca, One Bangsar

Add: Rick's Cafe Casablanca @ One Bangsar, 63C, Jalan Ara, Bangsar Baru, KL
Tel: +603 2287 1618

Who's Rick? This cafe's name was inspired by the movie, Casablanca...
Wikipedia describes Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) as a bitter, cynical American expatriate in Casablanca. He owns and runs "Rick's Café Américain", an upscale nightclub and gambling den that attracts a mixed clientèle of Vichy French and Nazi officials, refugees and thieves. Although Rick professes to be neutral in all matters, it is later revealed that he had run guns to Ethiopia to combat the 1935 Italian invasion, and fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War against Francisco Franco's Nationalists.

Hmm, seems familiar!?
YES! This used to be Stan's Indonesian and Malaysian restaurant which served the RM$50 rendang!

Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup (RM14) - Not hearty and thick enough, pity ...
Chicken Liver Pate with Orange Preserve (RM$10) - Pretty good, but didn't like the crusty bread that looked like crisps, which were sreved alongside.
Caesars Salad - A's choice, she didn't seem to complaint!
Moroccan shish kebab - Slurp! Tasty :-)

Time for the mains ... I was really REALLY looking forward to their burgers, but we ended up being slightly dissapointed ... JS's chicken burger was slightly dry, and X's and my Beef burgers had patties which were not freshly made. Awww :-) Well, at least you can choose what topping you want on your burgers, we had everything from bacon, to various cheeses, to mushrooms, pineapples and even fried eggs!

H seemed to enjoy her pasta :-) Pity they don't serve Angel Hair...

What an incredible birthday ... another birthday dinner celebration :-)

Heh heh ....

Not telling you what I got as my pressie from my beautiful frens ... hmm, maybe I'd tell you next week!

The Chocolate Cake with the Moist Centre was good , but we didn't like the banana-ey Banana Creme Brulee. Whatever happened to simple good ol' plain Creme Brulee!?

Latest Toyota Land Cruiser V8 - 200 Series

Hmm, I think current Land Cruiser owners may take some persuading to 'appreciate' the new styling on this current/latest batch of machines!

Wikipedia
This is the ... Ninth generation - 200 Series Station Wagon

Transmission 6-speed automatic / 5-speed automatic / 5-speed manual

The Toyota Land Cruiser was redesigned for 2008. Known as the 200 Series, it will share the 2008 Lexus LX's platform and overall design. Though many time-honored Land Cruiser supporters have welcomed the re-invigoration of the mechanical aspects of the vehicle, the 200 Series has encountered criticism due to its controversial body restyling, with some claiming that Toyota has 'overdeveloped' the classic trademarked Land Cruiser identity in its efforts to fit the Land Cruiser in to modern 21st century motoring.

I couldn't quite believe how her team transformed the place ... wow!

This is the stage ... which would soon be hosting some of the coolest and hottest new acts around!

Thanks to Hen for recommending ... Miami. With a hint of mint, it was perhaps the best cocktail of the night. But I still prefer Hennessy on the rocks :-)

Our emcee for the night ... Pamela Chong from the Amazing Race Asia Season II.

Malaysia's own rock band ... Pop Shuvit!

All the way from Taiwan ... hip-hop and HOKKIEN rapping sensations, Machi!

Great house music to start, super live acts, a fantastic stage and set-up, free flowing drinks, and friends ... new and old ... Wow! What a night :-)

At midnight ... Flo-Rida appeared on stage!

Later, he appeared in numerous popular rap mixtapes, most notably in We the Best by DJ Khaled in 2006, when he was signed to the Poe Boy Entertainment label, distributed by Atlantic Records.
Mail on Sunday was Flo Rida's solo debut album; its lead single "Low" was a number-one hit for 10 weeks in early 2008.
His breakthrough came with his debut single, "Low", featuring T-Pain. It was the first official single off of his album Mail On Sunday and the first single off the movie soundtrack Step Up 2 Tha Streets. The single remained #1 on the Billboard 100 for 10 weeks!

BMW ACS6 - AC Schnitzer Convertible

Hmmm ....
The rare ... the elusive... yes, this is the ACS6 which once started life as a 645 Convertible!

What do we have here ...

Time to convoy to the Orphanage in Port Klang!

Classy interior upgrade!

The V8 fires up in a sonorous voice ... simply amazing after the AC conversion! Hair-tingling!

More shots of this striking beauty ...
2004 AC Schnitzer BMW ACS6
The years of waiting has finally reached an end. The new BMW 6-series Coupé is here. The question of whether the "newcomer" can successfully follow the legendary coupes of the 70s and 80s simply doesn't arise, as the 6-series, with internal designation E63, already has the potential of a legend: sports performance, elegance and dynamics.
Despite - or because of - the excellent "Basis", AC Schnitzer is currently developing a special accessories range which will perfect the 6-series in all its qualities. Because in the end, there's nothing so good that it can't be improved.
In the first stage of development work, AC Schnitzer adapted the alloy and racing wheels for the new 6-series. The Type III wheels and the new Type IV design are already available today.
As the maximum size AC Schnitzer actually develops a wheel tyre combination with the new Type IV racing wheel in 21". As well as various combinations in 19" the 6-series can also carry the combination of 9.0J x 20" on the front with tyres 245/35 R 20 and on the rear axle 10.0J x 20" with tyres 285/30 R 20. Just this measure perceptibly improves the driving dynamics of the 6-series Coupé. AC Schnitzer recommends high performance tyres by Continental and Michelin.
In addition, the avant-garde style AC Schnitzer Type IV 5-spokes, with their star pattern from the pentagonal wheel centre and dishing for each spoke, are also excellently suited to the modern, timeless design of the new Coupé.
The sporting performance is further enhanced by the AC Schnitzer sports suspension which is currently undergoing tests on public roads and on the North Loop of the Nürburgring. As well as simply lowering by around 25 mm, we have made the 6-series Coupé stiffer for more sporting performance while retaining maximum comfort.
Naturally our engineers and designers, working in close collaboration, have developed a unique AC Schnitzer aerodynamic conversion consisting of front spoiler in a new sporting design, side skirt inserts, rear spoiler and a rear skirt. The aerodynamic range is completed by a Chromeline Set, to provide some chrome highlights if desired.
A further brilliant highlight which is perfectly integrated into the rear skirt is the double sports rear silencer with its 2 chromed tailpipes in Trap-Ment form (combination of trapezium and segment). This exhaust system is of course not only an aesthetically pleasing but also optimises gas flow, thus ensuring better response, and gives the V8 a particularly sonorous "voice".
Exclusivity will shortly be the key word for the cockpit: as well as a carbon fibre interior trim in the new "Exclusive Design" in silver and an ergonomically designed airbag sports steering wheel, above all the aluminium accessories, e.g. for the controller of the BMW-specific "i-Drive System", provide the finishing touches.

J.Co Donut and Coffee - Sunway Pyramid

Add: LL2.127 @ LG-2, Sunway Pyramid, 3 Jalan PJS 11/15, Bandar Sunway, PJ

Been a while since we visited J.Co ... The queues were barely noticeable now, unlike the early days at Pavilion when this chain first opened!

Its only been 7 months since the 'first days', wonder if the fad is starting to fade away ... Nevertheless, the donuts are still light and good, and the coffee half-decent! Here's our Oreology (RM$2.29).

ps - Double Cappuccino was RM$7.62 , and Twinnings English Breakfast Tea @ RM$5.71. Comes with a nice simple glazed donut each! One sure way to beat the queue ... head straight for the coffee!

Sweet Hut Tidbits at Sunway Pyramid New Wing

JM Bariani House, SS18 Subang Jaya

Add: 21-21A, Jalan SS18/6, Subang Jaya
Tel: +603 5634 4660 / +6019 211 7202
Opening hours: 11.30am to 3pm, 5.30pm to 9.30pm (Monday to Saturday)
And, 11.30am to 3pm (1st and 3rd Sunday of the month)

Seems the story goes like this ...
JM BARIANI HOUSE started rather quietly in the early 1980s when Jamilah and her husband Mustapa decided to start a food catering business.
The couple from Muar set up a kitchen in SS18 Subang Jaya and soon discovered their friends and other Johor folk were requesting for their bariani more regularly. JM Bariani House opened in 1995 to cater to this need.
Since then, it has become a hub in the KL-PJ area for genuine Johor bariani and other southern Malay specialities. Today, the couple in their sixties has left the running of the business to three sons who are equally passionate about Johor food.
I would say that this is a simpler and less spicy version of the 'briyani' aka Johor bariani. It seems this dish originated in Singapore where there was a cross-cultural mix of Muslim cooking traditions from places such as Middle East, Indonesia and India!

Pity I didn't order the Bariani gam (chicken and mutton) which is a house speciality, the meats are cooked together with the spiced rice (Only available on Wednesdays and Saturdays, I was there on a Wednesday night and the trainee waitress didn't think of recommending it!).

The Sirap Limau (RM$2) was well judged ... not too sweet. The 'starter' curry, which seemed to have dall in it, was actually rather tasty!

Rojak Petis (RM$4.50 - Another dish that's good value) starter ... slurp!

Good ayam masak merah (RM$6.60), and truly delicious fried chicken or Ayam Goreng Rempah (RM$6.10).

Chicken bariani (RM$6.60 + RM$3.80 for the nasi) ... excellent!

Daging / Beef bariani (RM$6.60 + RM$3.80 for the nasi) - Darn good!

Total bill came up to RM$42, pretty decent for a restaurant with a nice setting, and healthy style of cooking for its genre... we loved it!

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam, Petaling Street

As we walked along Petaling Street, I saw this really important monument and place of worship on the outskirts ... Wikipedia has a description, of course!

Founded in 1873, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the oldest and richest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur.
It is situated at edge of Chinatown in Jalan Bandar (formerly High Street). In 1968, a new structure was built, featuring the ornate 'Raja Gopuram' tower in the style of South Indian temples.
From its inception, the temple provided an important place of worship for early Indian immigrants and is now an important cultural and national heritage.

The Sri Mahamariamman Temple was founded by K. Thamboosamy Pillai in 1873 and was initially used as a private shrine by the Pillai family. The family threw the temple doors open to the public in the late 1920s and eventually handed the management of the temple over to a board of trustees.
This is the oldest functioning Hindu temple in Malaysia. It is also reputed to be the richest in the country. The temple was originally sited somewhere near the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. It shifted to its present location along Jalan Tun H.S. Lee (next to KL's Chinatown) in 1885.
The initial attap structure was demolished in 1887 and a brick building was erected in its place. That structure was demolished to make way for the current temple building which were completed in 1968. The impressive gateway to the temple, known as the gopuram, was completed in 1972. The new temple was consecrated in 1973.

Gopuram

Built in the south Indian style, the temple most outstanding feature is the impressiven 5-tiered gopuram (tower). It is the tallest structure in the temple. The dramatic 22.9m (75ft) high pyramid-shaped gate tower is decorated with depictions of Hindu gods sculpted by artisans from southern India. The chief sculptor was the late S. T. Muniappa from Tamil Nadu and is credited for creating the 228 idols on the gopuram.

ps - Wikipedia says that the name "S-Class" derives from the German word "Sonderklasse" of which "S-Class" is an abbreviation. Sonderklasse means "special class," and in automotive terms thus refers to "a specially outfitted car."
