Kedah dishes at E's place

Thanx to E, A and Chef J for the fantastic concoctions one Sunday afternoon... Truly HALL OF FAME quality!

Salted Fish (Ham Yui) with Red Onion salad - Deeeeeeeeeelicious! Powerful but subtle flavours.
It is so good, that A described it as "Pecah kepala!" (Translates to ... "Smash head!")
Buttery Curry Prawns - Excellent! Great taste!

Baby Pomfret - Can be eaten head to tail, crispy!
Stir Fried Scallop with Kai Lan Head - Crispy, yummy.

Double Boiled Chinese Soup - Fantastic! I had 4 bowls!!
Roast Lamb in Black Pepper Sauce - I ate half the dish!!!

Sambal Petai - Not pungent like normal petai, but still not my thing :-)

Wine and Champagne ... French, Italian, Chilean & Japanese too!

On a lazy Sunday afternoon, at E's home ...

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin (with Ice Jacket) - Beautifully stocked up in a wine fridge, slurp!

Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon in mini-bottles ... produce of Chile

Jolly Shandy ... Malaysia Boleh!

Prosecco Del Veneto - Italian 'champagne'!

Plum Wine from Japan (Choya-esque!)

AboutJapan.com ... Umeshu is a liqueur made with plums. It has been consumed over 1,000 years in Japan. Umeshu is made by soaking unripe ume plums in shochu (alcohol content of about 35%) and sugar. Ume plums contain potassium and calcium, so umeshu is said to be good for health. Green ume plums are mainly harvested in May/June in Japan.

AND, an interesting premium I noticed ... dice game that's very popular but in a fancy cylindrical jar, by Hennessy VSOP.

Tweenkle Twinkle Little Star ... Woof!

Afternoon at E's place :-) Tweenkle Twinkle Little Star ... Awww, she's cute!

Chilled out afternoon ... nice!

The Heartbreak Kid (Ben Stiller)

Source: DVD (SS2)
I love Ben Stiller, especially in Meet The Parents and Zoolander ... and now here's another one of his films! This is a film by Bobby and Peter Farrely aka the Farrely Brothers (There's Something About Mary, and Dumb & Dumber). I loved this film, laughed so har!

IMDB.com ...
Eddie is forty, owns a sporting-goods store, and is still single. After watching his ex-fiancée walk down the aisle, he meets Lila, an environmental researcher, who seems too good to be true. Pressured by his father and best friend, Eddie pops the question and marries Lila after only 6 weeks.
However, as he almost instantly discovers, his new bride is a nightmare with more baggage than he can handle. She's immature, foolish, a monster in bed, owes a tremendous amount of money to various sources, and as it turns out, is only a volunteer and doesn't actually have a job. While on their honeymoon in Cabo, Eddie meets Miranda, a down-to-earth lacrosse coach who is visiting with her family. Sparks fly, and Eddie falls for her.
Now comes the tricky part of breaking off his marriage to crazy Lila, all while keeping the truth from Miranda about why he's in Cabo in the first place...
Starring ...

Ben Stiller ... Eddie Cantrow
Malin Akerman ... Lila
Michelle Monaghan ... Miranda
Jerry Stiller ... Doc (Did you know that Jerry is Ben's dad!?)
Carlos Mencia ... Uncle Tito

This iPod Classic looks like a golf ball!

Cool skin on this iPod Classic, eh ... :-)

Wikipedia... During a special iPod-centric event on September 5, 2007, Steve Jobs introduced the sixth generation iPod and the retronym suffix "classic". Featuring slightly thinner bodies, the sixth generation classic also sported dramatically improved battery life, claiming up to 40 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback. The front plate of the iPod is now made of anodized aluminum instead of polycarbonate plastic, and "Signature iPod White" has been replaced by silver. The sixth generation classic also introduced a completely overhauled user interface, incorporating more graphics and Cover Flow.

A friend was visiting so we had a quick bite, pre-Bangkok Jazz, in this place which I had wanted to go for ages! Its got a reputation for being REAL good, but pricey .... I found the meal to be quite pricey, but it wasn't fantastic.

Tom Yum Koong (Prawn) - Very VERY firey, rather good flavour, but of the thick variety ... Some people prefer the clearer variety, but I like this style ala my days in Pattaya.

The other 2 dishes were more dissapointing ...
Pad Kaprao Chicken (So much better in Thailand - the basil tasted burnt... BOO!),
and Kerabu Mango (Not sour enough ... just not tasty enough!).

Pricey? Yes! Along with 2 cups of Green Tea and 1 Nescafe for me, the meal came up to over RM$70.

Nasi Lemak & Nasi Dagang ala Village Park, Damansara Utama

We love the nasi lemak at Village Park, in Damansara Utama ... and thought it would be the perfect meal on a little house party that was thrown! And we were right ... the nasi lemak and roast chicken went down a treat! The below meal came up to just over RM$50, enough to feed 6 or 7 people! 881 - Papaya Sisters (Hokkien/Mandarin)

Source: DVD (Damansara Utama)

Thanks to Jolene for this recommendation ... well worth a watch! Touching, funny, fantastic costumes and great shooting ... would you believe it is a 'local' Singapore production? Fabulous, great job Royston Tan!

Royston's blog ... "The bad boy of Singapore cinema is back, with his biggest film project yet, a $1million musical feature film in a joint production between five companies. The talented Singapore director's next film will be set against the colourful and culturally unique backdrop of Chinese 7th month 'getai'.

Singapore, 7 February 2007Zhao Wei Films, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), Scorpio East Pictures and Infinite Frameworks (IFW) are proud to announce that they will be collaborating to produce talented Singapore director, Royston Tan's next feature film, 881.
881 tells the story of The Papaya Sisters, played by Mindee Ong (Moulmein High, Birthday) and Yeo Yann Yann (Singapore Dreaming), two childhood friends who grew up mesmerised by the glitter and glamour of 'getai' (song stage).
The musical will feature glitzy costumes and lavish choreography, with the actors breaking out often into songs to express their emotions. All the numbers in the film are from the treasure trove of the late Chen Jin Lang, a Singapore 'getai' songwriting legend who passed away in August 2006. MediaCorp artiste Qi Yu Wu (The Peak) and 'getai' veteran Liu Ling Ling will also star in the film.
The director, Mr Royston Tan, comments "881 is my third film and as a director, I have always wanted to surprise people with different ways of storytelling. 881 will be Singapore's first musical film and I hope to bring out the beauty of Hokkien songs and 'getai' through this brand new interpretation. The film will infuse 'getai' elements with modern cutting edge editing style, and let audiences see 'getai' in a different light". "

Ho Boh Hakka Restaurant, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Ho Boh is another restaurant located in bustling Bukit Tinggi, Klang. It specialises in Hakka cuisine, and is reasonably priced at about RM$25 for all the below food.

The Stuffed Tofu and Abacus pieces (Can't for the life of me remember the Hokkien namesake!) were rather good ...

Hakka French Beans fried rice - Great stuff!

Hakka style pork with Vinegar - Deliccccious!

1500th Blog! Baba & Nyonya Restaurant @ Klang

Happy 1500th Blog!

A little over 20 months after my first ever blog on 23rd July 2008 ... We have arrived on my 1500th blog entry! Thank you for sticking with me :-)
And true to the spirit of this blog, I will continue giving new restaurants a try ... sometimes they end up being good, othertimes bad, but every business deserves a chance! So here I go ... another new restaurant that opened in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Nasi lemak - Good! (RM$4.80)

Tuna Mayo Salad - Very poor. Bland, boring! (RM$5.50)

Nyonya Fried Meehoon - Average. (RM$5.50)

Nyonya curry chicken - Good stuff ... Much enjoyed, with plenty of spices. (RM$5.30)

Jasmine tea (Ask for no sugar - They put some in, tastes more like Chrysanthemum) (RM$2.30)

Heh heh ... Liked the salt pepper shaker on the table. At RM$23.40 ... it was a decent priced meal, but average at best.

Deep Blue Diving Centre, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Diving sure is becoming popular ... Deep Blue just opened in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Perodua Myvi = Toyota Passo Wannabe

Spotted in the Klang exit of the Kesas highway ... hmm, a wannabe Passo! Under all that 'make-up' its actually a Perodua Myvi SE.

Silver Bird Orange Fruit Cake

RM$0.90 from your local 7-11 ... Pretty yummy!

Mee Jawa @ Casa Tropicana, PJ

I had previously read (many months ago!) about this eatery in The Star ... glad I could finally make it here!
Add: Mee Jawa @ B-0-3A, Block B, Casa Tropicana
Tel: +6012 4835 555
Friend of mine has also reviewed this place

Here're some directions pinched from her ...
"Let's say you're on the small road passing by the main entrance of Tropicana on your left. Keep going down that road until you are near the main traffic light (where you would turn right to go to Riana Green condo). This restaurant is at the base of the new orangey/cream coloured condo (called Casa Tropicana) which is next to that traffic light (a few doors away from the 7-11). Just be careful because the turning into the condo shops is just a short distance after the housing area road on the left/ just before the traffic light area."

I do like the airey environment, and nice simple decor. Started with some yummy and very hot (Temperature!) Roti Sardin ... more like a toastie. RM$2.60

Mee Jawa @ RM$6.90 - Delicious with some crackers as well. Rather large plate I have to admit, interesting serving dish.

Assam Laksa (RM$5.90) - Pretty good, but Decanter's at Damansara Heights is better!

Nyonya Chicken Wings (RM$6) - Really good. Again, piping hot!

The best for last ... Leng Chee Kang (RM$4) - So good we ordered 3 portions for the two of us! Loved the ingredients, which had everything including sago and nata d' coco... slurp!

Kazee cafe, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI)

Just chilling out one evening in a lil' cafe along the same row as Pizza Hut and Maxis at Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) ...
Add: Jalan 2/71, Off Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, KL.

Ribena with Fresh Lemon Juice (RM$3.50)

Hot Lemon Tea

Fresh Apple Juice (slurp!)

Lemon Tea ... cold, duh!

Coconut Cut @ TTDI

Located on the same row as Santai and 99 Steak and Chops ... Hahaa! Anyone tried it yet?

Santai Malay cuisine, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI)

Here's another visit to Santai, my favourite Malay restaurant ... anywhere! Yes, it's that good :-) Located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, next to another restaurant I like, 99 Steak and Chops . Both are located on Persiaran Zaaba. Yummy!
Add: Santai Restaurant and Café @ 10, Persiaran Zaaba , Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, KL
Tel: +603 7728 8173

Santai is one of those places I have been back to many MANY times!

I always seem to order the same dishes ... but these are all excellent!
Nasi Goreng USA (served with delicious beef masak merah)

Tom Yam Campur - Do ask for 'Less Hot / Kurang Pedas' unless you can take it spicy! Excellent flavour :-)

Telur bungkus - Best in the business!

Kailan Ikan Masin - Slurp!
(Thanks for the correction, Jojo & Kath)

Sotong tepung - Pretty good, love the batter even though I am not a squidgy sotong fan!

Washed down with some decent Hot Barley and Teh Tarik Kurang Manis.

Ps. Ah, hah ... I now know why their food is so good. I couldn't put my finger on it before, but now I realise that the food here is so appetising cos' many of the chefs are Thai!! One of the founders is a gentleman by the name of Mohd Farid Khalid.
Rasarasa.net ... Santai's journey to success as a family-owned restaurant started rather humbly as a caterer to office functions and weddings.
Each year, during the month preceding Hari Raya, however, their alcohol-free fruit cake became a huge success. This prompted them to look at bigger things.
In the year 2000, they opened their first restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail serving Malay-Thai food using cooks from Pattaya, Thailand.
Since then they have opened two more outlets, both at Tesco (at Mutiara Damansara in 2005 and at Ampang in 2006). The TTDI restaurant is usually packed during lunch and dinner so go there early if you are not prepared to wait.

Tang House of Fishball, Damansara Utama

Tang House of Fishball is a chain of pork-free (Yes, you read that right!) fish-ball and fish-cake eateries ... it is one of those RARE chinese places which actually don't serve pork but taste great!
Here's my review of the original Seapark branch ... equally good!

This is the highlight I reckon ... Fishcakes are so tasty!

Starbucks Damansara Utama

Sharing some refreshing Tazo Tea at Starbucks, next to Damansara Utama's HSBC after the Grand Prix ...

This reminded me of a scene from Sex & The City :-)

Previous shape RX300 / Harrier ... but with modded LED rear lights. Not bad?
Spotted at the Damansara Utama NKVE exit on a rainy evening.

Formula One - Nikon D80 / Race Day!

Here are dad's shots with the Nikon D80, he started off with the 12-24mm Tokina, but soon moved to the VR Zoom lens :-) We had an amazing view into the pits from where we were sat, directly opposite the pits!
Some previous sample of shots from this Tokina wide-angle beauty!

The teams prepared the nose cones, probably in anticipation of what MAY happen on the first corner at the end of the start-straight! Kovalainen (featured on the big screen below) would not know at this stage how good a race he would have ...

Go go go!!!

Breathtaking view, and incredible noise ... magic!

I've had enough of standing next to the track ... could hardly keep my Canon G9 steady, the vibrations from the 19,000 rpm engines were that fierce!

More action from the pits!

Though starting in pole, Brazilian Felipe Massa spun into the gravel mid-distance through the race. He said to British ITV, "I don't know what happened, I just lost the car completely. There was strange behaviour on the rear, so I don't know." He has now retired in both of 2008's races.
Loved our seats!

Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari were victorious :-) Brilliant!

Formula One - Nikon D80 / Pre Race

Here are some of dad's shots with his Nikon SLR (D80) ... Pre-race, as we arrived at Sepang.

Making it through the turnstills :-)

Interesting welcome ... a Macau marquee!

It was a HOT HOT HOT day ... Cold Tiger Beer @ RM$15.

Dad took some shots in the Mercedes stand ... this is the C63 AMG aka 6.3 litres propelling a C-class W204 chassis. Wow!

There was a real carnival atmosphere, with people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe ...

Formula One - Live Savers!

Brought a pair of my industrial ear plugs along to Sepang ... and it was heaven-sent! :-)

Ps. OR, you can buy them from the peddler near the carpark, RM$25 a pop!

Formula One - Goodbye Sepang

Sunday 24th March 2008 will always be in my mind ... the day I attended my first Formula One race. I had waited TEN YEARS for this (It was the 10th edition / anniversary of F1 in Malaysia), intending to one day watch a race ... but always meaning to enjoy the first in my home country ... I've done it!

So we bid goodbye to Sepang ...

Thanks to a dear friend for the amazing opportunity ... and to Thomas and Ye for the parking :-)

Dad and myself will always have our memories ...

Formula One - Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix

The warm up lap, followed by the start of the race!

Kimi Raikonnen and Felipe Massa (Scudeira Ferrari) would lead most of the way, and I enjoyed watching the duo pair up in front of the pack for many a lap at the start of the race ...

Track side! I went down from my seat (5 rows up) to the bottom row to have a feel ... and it was EVEN louder. Ear piercingly loud, and the vibrations were incredible ... so much so it was difficult to even take photos, the camera was practically vibrating with the 19,000 rpm cars!

We had a perfect view of the pits!
The Star ... "Hamilton, winner of the season-opening Australian GP last week, finished in fifth place after a pit-stop mistake by his crew delayed him by nearly 20 seconds. " This was actually caused by a problem with an air-gun, oh oh!

Here's the Renault ING team at work!

The best in the business ... Ferrari pit crew had no problems!

Oh oh ... the only drama in the race (besides the botched Mclaren Mercedes pit job for Hamilton!) ... On the 31st lap, Massa spun out of an easy second place!
I love the pit action!
More race action ...

Another Ferrari pit stop ... Go Kimi!
Hamilton Lewis, winner of the 1st GP of 2008 (Australia) played catch up most of the race ... Check this out with 36 laps to go and with 1 lap to go, he was 6th and then 5th.

Red Bull ... gives you wings!

Kimi cruising to the finish ... and a Finnish fan with a cool fish-rod-style Finland flag!

My dad and his Nikon D80 :-)

Go Scudeira Ferrari!
Sepang will never be forgotten by first time podium finishers by Polish driver Robert Kubica (BMW) who came in second ... And, fellow Fin Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren-Mercedes) in third place.
And the final results ...
1 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 1:31:18.555 / 10 pts
2 Robert Kubica BMW +19.5 secs / 8 pts
3 Heikki Kovalainen McLaren-Mercedes +38.4 secs / 6 pts
4 Jarno Trulli Toyota +45.8 secs / 5 pts
5 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes +46.5 secs / 4 pts
6 Nick Heidfeld BMW +49.8 secs / 3 pts
7 Mark Webber Red Bull-Renault +68.1 secs / 2 pts
8 Fernando Alonso Renault +70.0 secs / 1pt
This is a pic of a very happy Heikki Kovalainen, who came in 3rd, scoring 6 points for Vodaphone Mclaren Mercedes!
Other news ...
Renault ING team results ... Fernando Alonso salvaged a solo point in 8th place, and Nelsinho Piquet came in 11th.
Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Bourdais was the first retirement, falling off on the opening lap. Rosberg clobbered Timo Glock then, too, necessitating a pit stop for a new nose cone. The Williams continued, the Toyota was through for the day.
Adrian Sutil suffered a mechanical problem that stopped his Force India out on the track, while Sebastian Vettel suffered either engine or transmission failure that brought him to a smoky halt.
In all ... only 5 retirements, with 17 finishers. Guess it was due to the GREAT WEATHER, as well as the drivers getting used to the absence of Traction Control and other electonic aids!
The result leaves Hamilton still leading the world championship for drivers with 14 points, ahead of Raikkonen and Heidfeld on 11 apiece. In the constructors’ chase, McLaren lead with 24, ahead of BMW Sauber on 19 and Ferrari on 11.

Formula One - Its about to begin!

YES! I made it to my first Formula One race :-) The Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix @ Sepang 2008 :-) This is where we sat ... 5 rows from the track!

A friend got us an incredible view ... thank you ... thank you :-) We were sat directly opposite the Renault ING pit :-)

The race will begin soon ...

Dad and myself :-)

Formula One - Mercedes C63 AMG

Mercedes had a huge stand just before the entrance of Gate 1 and 2 at Sepang :-) Here's piccies from my 3 minutes at the stand!

Here's a stock Mercedes Benz C-class ... in lovely white. Click here for my original thoughts about this new W204 model ... I have to say my impression has changed since, now that I have seen it on the road, it actually grows on you, and looks like a great alternative to the Audi A4 or BMW E90.

I was walking out, but something caught my eye on the rear stage area ... Oh my. WOW .... it's the NEW M3-killer aka Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Sweeeeeeeeet!

Some notes from Autocar.co.uk ...
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
Test date Tuesday, November 27, 2007
Price when new £51,317
"New Mercedes has the power and poise to humble a new BMW M3"
What is it?
It’s Stuttgart’s latest AMG offering, the Mercedes C63 AMG saloon. Armed with 451bhp and 443lb ft it’s got a clear power advantage over its nearest rivals, and we’ve already driven it twice; once back in June, when Greg Kable called it “the most entertaining Mercedes since the 190 2.5 Evo,” and once six weeks later, when it seriously impressed Chris Harris.
Chris came away for the International launch of the new Mercedes C63 AMG feeling very positively about this new Benz super saloon, but this is our first chance to try it in the UK. So will it seem as great in right-hand drive, on our own brand of bitumen?
What’s it like?
I was on the international launch of this car, and the first impression is that without the trick adjustable dampers fitted to Autocar’s launch car, the C63 treads a touch more firmly than its BMW counterpart, or for that matter the RS4. It’s not so hard as to dent its otherwise impressive cruising capabilities, at least not on the standard 18” wheels fitted here. Lateral instrusions cause the biggest worry though, with the occasional thud, but even these don’t intrude too far into the cabin, and this aside the damping is well judged.
As impressive as the outright performance – with 451bhp from a 6.2-litre V8, it’s not exactly lacking – is the accessibility. Whatever speed you’re doing, in whatever gear, full throttle summons a sledgehammer of torque, 369lb ft anywhere between 2000 and 6250rpm and if you happen to be near 5000rpm the full 443lb ft.
But there’s a lot more to this car than a mighty engine and effortless cruising credentials. As we’ve chronicled all year, the C-Class is blessed with the sort of handling balance that vindicates a preference for rear-wheel drive cars, and the C63’s considerable extra poke has done nothing to upset this.
On the road the turn-in is keen and controlled via a natural, feelsome steering now complete with a chunky DTM style wheel and a quick 2.5 turns. It’s at the track that things turn considerably more interesting, for even without the optional limited slip differential, the C63 is happy to wag its tail with the best of them.
Despite carrying really rather serious speeds, the C’s is so remarkably well balanced it positively encourages you to push harder, without harbouring any nasty surprises.
Should I buy one?
Since first twisting the key I’ve changed my mind six times.
C63 or M3? Simple question, very tricky to answer.
Admittedly, our reception to the new M3, has been slightly luke warm, but that’s more to do with the high expectations we set for a new M product rather than any deficiency, for make no mistake the new M3 remains a superb enthusiast’s car. That the new Mercedes C63 AMG runs the M3 so close, is perhaps, all you need to know – this is easily the best sporting car Mercedes has made in recent history.
If it were a V8 M3 CSL things would be much more straightforward, but its not, not yet. So for its bigger punch, meaner character, better steering and practically-as-good chassis I’ll give it to the Mercedes, at least until I change my mind again.

Formula One - Arrival at Sepang

This was the traffic jam ... One hour along this 3km stretch, on the way towards LCCT (Low Cost Terminal - Pity anyone on Air Asia flights during the Grand Prix!) / Sepang Formula One circuit ...

Thanks to Thomas for the parking pass ... PB1 cost RM$50 ... ouch! To park on a palm oil estate! Heh heh, and here's us as we arrived, gals handing out Sunkist Orange packets, but on condition that you take a picture with Mr Orange!

My first view of Sepang ... I will not forget :-) I have been waiting TEN YEARS for this!

Dad wore his Toyota colours (Though we all know he's a McLaren fan ... oops, or Ferrari? I forget!), which he got as a gift when Stanley won an online competition (Toyota Racing hopistality package!) a few years back ... I loved the carnival atmoshpere, with people from all walks of lifes and all corners of the globe!

We continued walking to our seats ... hoping that we'd get a good view :-)

Ranting about Jaya Supermarket, Section 14 @ PJ

These pastries along with some yummy soya-cincau from Jenny Hong's stall, located opposite Section 14 in PJ's Jaya Supermarket ... were nothing to shout about. BUT, thinking of Jaya Supermarket always brings back memories of my childhood, and how it used to be THE mall to go to!

Some notes I found online :-)
Jaya Shopping Centre has been operating at this very same spot for almost three decades (since 1974). It was previously known as Jaya Supermarket but despite the name change, this shopping centre that is strategically located in Section 14 in Petaling Jaya, has remained a bustling location for many families looking for variety, convenience and value-for-money products. Always busy with patrons, the shopping complex is not very big compared to the newer malls but has a good variety of products. The Cold Storage Supermarket is the main tenant on the ground floor; you can also find a pharmacy, family restaurants, coffee and cake joints, snack counters and bakeries as well as a large number of stalls selling handicraft, trinkets, scarves and assorted items for the home & kitchen.

Previous review of this very famous kon loh mee joint

Good Kon Loh Mee is one that can survive the take-away/ta-pow home! I ate this some 4 hours after buying it ... and the noodles were still yummy. Pity the pickled green chilli was very poor, insufficient pickling time meant it was simply hot!

Hell's Kitchen (US - Season 2)

Watched on: Asian Food Channel (AFC) @ Astro

I've been hooked all day on a Hell's Kitchen Marathon on Astro ... WOW! Gripping stuff :-) Imagine a MEANER Donald Trump (The Apprentice i.e. billionaire with the bad wig), working in a kitchen environment, with EVEN more drama ... that's the recipe (pun intended!) for Hell's Kitchen :-)

From Wikipedia ...
Cast during November 2005, the second season aired starting on 12th June 2006 and concluded on August 2006. The winner was promised an executive chef position at a multi-million-dollar restaurant in the billion dollar Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino, at Las Vegas. (as well as a financial interest in the restaurant and partial control over its design).

Ah Long Pte Ltd - TGV, Sunway Pyramid

A week after the 12th March Malaysian premier of the long awaited Jack Neo (Singapore) film, Ah Long Pte Ltd, we watched it at TGV Sunway Pyramid (RM$11), on a weekend mid-night screening. Didn't think it was particularly coherent, though it did have its funny moments! Perhaps I was comparing it a little too much with Neo's previous efforts. AND, it seemed to be more like Neo's take and interpretation of MALAYSIA rather then his motherland, Singapore. Highlights, the appearance of the Indian security guard / mall cop (Just Follow Law) and Lao Zha Boh :-)

From the Ah Long Facebook group ...
AH LONG PTE LTD is a light-hearted black comedy about the triad world and the money-lending business. Instead of treating the subject of Ah Longs (money-lenders) seriously, the movie takes on a humorous treatment. Wang Li Hua (Fann Wong) is a member of the Shao He Triad, an Ah Long organisation. She gets an instant promotion after her boss decides to retire. With the help of her newfound dance instructor husband Jojo Fang (Mark Lee) and his henchmen, Li Hua introduces various non-violent measures to handle borrowers, usually with hilarious results. Will she be able to balance between the hullabaloo within her gang and the threat of rival triads? AH LONG PTE LTD is directed by Jack Neo.
Jack Neo's filmography ...
1997 12 Storeys
1998 Money No Enough (钱不够用) writer, actor
1999 That One Not Enough (那个不够) writer, director
Liang Po Po: The Movie (梁婆婆重出江湖) writer, actor

2007 Just Follow Law (我在政府部门的日子) writer, director
2008 Ah Long Pte Ltd (老师嫁老大) writer, director
I've watched just about all his films, bar 12 Stories and Homerun, and felt that his best efforts must have been Just Follow Law, The Best Bet and I Not Stupid.

Kedai Kopi Taman Eng Ann, Klang

Nice simple breakies at Taman Eng Ann's 'signature' kopi tiam ...

Lets start with some Hot Milo Kosong :-)

Yummy ... Time for some of Aunty's famous chicken rice (breast meat of course), slurp. Char siew was mediocre though.

The nasi lemak here is very good, but the young girl serving isn't very friendly!

Finally... for that finishing touch. Kon Loh Mee ala Eng Ann, DAMN GOOD!!! Maybe even better then dad's favourite in Berkeley and the other favourite in Jalan Gelugor (Off Jalan Meru). There's even a spicy version for us to try next time!

ps. Here's a review of my previous visit

Happy Birthday, Colin! Zeta Bar Partytime

It was the night before Awal Muharam, a bank holiday here, so it was party time in honour of birthday boy Colin ... first it was party time at twenty-one and then it was time for a yummy dinner at Vincenzo One Bangsar . And now, Zeta too!
We had a great section, at the Champagne Bar corner, but it was hard liquor all night instead!

Finally ... Zeta has a new band. Akasha originates from the Quebec, Canada, and comprises of Izabelle, Kathy, Valou, Chelsy and Mylene. Zeta describes "Their diversification enables them to interpret Hip Hop, R&B, disco music, rock n roll and as well of many other styles. Their contagious energy in front of the crowds is their most positive feature, their choreographies in original settings and blazing costumes, creates an environment of festivities which will make you want to dance all night!"

Hmmm ... we started partying even before Colin arrived!

Ah hah ... BIRTHDAY BOY Colin arrives :-)

Drinking and dancing the night away ...

Cheik, BK, Gary and Vianca are lethal drink buddies ... Absolut vodka, and again!

More partying ...

At the end of the night ...

RaceCraft Carbon Fibre BMW E46 Ci

This very heaviliy modified 'RaceCraft', a local tuner / carbon fibre upgrade specialist, E46 Ci caught my eye. Not sure if it was a 318, 320 or real M3. Regardless, it was actually, quite nice! What caught my eye first was the contrast of black carbon fibre bonnet against a pearl white body ... fierce!

Some literature (Thanks to HyperTune) on this local car mod fanatics ...
RaceCraft International Sdn Bhd, Tel: +603 5635 8860
I’ve been having a long standing debate with myself: Which car would be more fun to play with? A relatively cheap to run, but hardly exclusive Japanese, or a sophisticated, complicated (albeit sometimes too complicated for its own good) and classy German. It’s funny how this was also the case in World War II. The Panzer tanks used by the Nazis were very efficient killers with the latest technology but were extremely expensive to produce and maintain, whereas their simpler Japanese counterparts were much easier to run.
We don’t see many tuned German cars on the road, especially here in Malaysia, as BMW’s and Mercs are, well, way out of reach for many people. Japanese cars on the other hand are a dime a dozen. I must confess that my own ignorance has led me to believe that German cars just aren’t tuneable, due to the simple fact that there just aren’t as many tuned BMW’s as there are Nissans, Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas. Take into account that a typical BMW costs twice as much as its Japanese counterpart and the higher cost of tuning parts and higher running costs; it’s quite easy to see why most people stand firmly on the Japanese side of the fence.
Costs of modifications aside, you’d be hard pressed to fault the result of a nicely done up Beemer. A fully done-up Evo or Skyline just doesn’t have the same visual clout as a Beemer, especially Beemers like this Motorsport Division demo car. An Evo with a full Varis bodykit may look fierce and intimidating, but a fully done up BMW will have the same intimidation level as the Evo, but it does it with so much more class.

Think of a street thug with piercings and tattoos covering his arms, brandishing a rusty blood-stained parang, dressed in tight jeans and a leather jacket (the Evo), standing next to a clean shaven man dressed in a white suit, with greased hair combed all the way back, gold chains, toothpick in his mouth and a silver-plated Colt M1911A handgun with ivory grip inserts and intricate engravings along the length of the barrel, resting in his left hand (the Beemer). Yeah, now you get the idea don’t you?
BMW are known for making some of the world’s best automotive engines. The E46 M3 S54B32 3.2 litre engine won numerous awards for its smoothness, high power output and all round awesomeness. It’s good to know that BMW has passed on some of the M3’s engine DNA to its lesser siblings such as the 2-litre straight-six engine which resides in this pearl white E46. In stock form, the M52B20-T produces a barely adequate 150bhp. That’s hardly enough to power to propel this 3-series BMW which weighs around 1500kg.

Curry Beef Noodles @ Sun Fatt Kee, Sea Park (PJ)

Sun Fatt Kee is an old kopi tiam with some yummy food, located behind Maybank, at Sea Park (Masak-masak describes the location as ... Crossroads of Jalan 21/17 and Jalan 21/11B @ Seapark, Petaling Jaya).

My parents love the Curry Beef Noodles here, and I can understand why ... delicious! The beef is so tender, and the curry broth is slurpilicious! But expensive at RM$6.

SBF was not feeling so well ... so she stuck to Plain Porridge (Dad tells me that the porridge here is world-famous too!), with Ham-Tan (Salted Egg) @ RM$2. Added some Pickled Lettuce at home ... magic!

DB1 spotted ... No, it ain't an Aston!

Stunning registration ... Wow, DB1 :-) Aston Martin-esque I think, but it was on a Volvo S40! As seen driving into KL Hilton.

In case you were wondering how the registration alphabet system works here ... Wikipedia has the answer!
Vehicles registered in the various states begin with specific letters as follows:
A: Perak
B: Selangor, including plates registered in Kuala Lumpur before the city separated as a Federal Territory in 1974.
C: Pahang
D: Kelantan
J: Johor, including Government (JDT1~JDT10) and Johor Military Force or Askar Timbalan Setia Negeri (JMF)
K: Kedah, including Langkawi (KV)
M: Malacca (Created by the British colonial government as one of four early Straits Settlements license plate prefixes, with "M" denoting "Malacca".)
N: Negeri Sembilan
P: Penang (Created by the British colonial government as one of four early Straits Settlements license plate prefixes, with "P" denoting "Penang".)
R: Perlis
T: Terengganu (plate T & TA were used by Kelantan)

Other plates which are sometimes seen in the Klang Valley include Q (Sarawak) and I do like the SA (Sabah) registered plates. Ones I don't like so much include PROTON, WAJA, PERODUA, and especially NAZA!

PER15 looks like Paris!

Merc C-Coupe, spotted in Kuala Lumpur ... PER15 looks a bit like PARIS I reckon!

Sicko by Michael Moore

Source: DVD (SS2)
Really enjoyed this, though there was sensationalism and a lot of quotes taken out of context, it still showed the dire situation the American health care system is in ... I felt quite disturbed after watching this film!
IMDB.com ... Documentary look at health care in the United States as provided by profit-oriented health maintenance organizations (HMOs) compared to free, universal care in Canada, the U.K., and France. Moore contrasts U.S. media reports on Canadian care with the experiences of Canadians in hospitals and clinics there. He interviews patients and doctors in the U.K. about cost, quality, and salaries. He examines why Nixon promoted HMOs in 1971, and why the Clintons' reform effort failed in the 1990s. He talks to U.S. ex-pats in Paris about French services, and he takes three 9/11 clean-up volunteers, who developed respiratory problems, to Cuba for care.
The show finishes with the poignant question ... Americans, "WHO ARE WE?"

Eest @ Westin Kuala Lumpur

Eest is located at one of KL's finest hotels, The Westin.
Add: 199 Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL
Tel: +603 2773 8338
It was fellow blogger Lianne and The Map who gave the thumbs up to this makan haven, so I had to give it a try ... before heading off to Colin's gig at Zeta later that night!

Westin describes it ...
We now know why EEST was created. There is nothing like it in KL. Your senses will be taken on a journey to a Pan Asian cuisine oasis- an oriental affair not to be missed by the adventurous. One that depicts originality while exuding the experience of tranquility in the midst of the bustling city… five countries, four senses, one oasis… The Westin Kuala Lumpur proudly presents EEST.

Pomelo salad with Betel Leaves (RM$18) - Good stuff. Nice light flavours, with a lovely dip.
Soft Shell Crab in a spring roll (RM$35) - Yummy. But expensive!

Gato Negro Merlot (2006) RM$115 - Pretty good. Easy drinking red.
Panna mineral water (Still) RM$24 - Ouch! Pricey!

Grilled Rib Eye with an oriental sauce (RM$75) - Lovely flavours, but should have ordered it in medium-rare instead of medium.
Wok Duck with a hint of coconut (RM$40) - Really good!
XO Sauce Fried rice with Seafood (RM$35) - The surprise of the night, big portion and delicious!

Complimentary honey melon dessert shaped like a lollipop ... slurp :-)

Thanks to the Starwood Privilege membership card, the price of the food was halved (YES!) and the meal came up to RM$244.

Service was immaculate. Brilliant and friendly attention, yet respecting the privacy of the diners. Maybe that was why I saw our Angkasawan, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar, at the table behind us!

The architecture and lighting was really stunning ... Intimate, flamboyant but not overly so!

Something I pulled (Pun intended!) together from poole-associates.com ...
A modernist interpretation of the traditional Asian courtyard provides the theme for this restaurant
There's far more to establishing a central theme for a restaurant than deciding on the type of food to serve. A successful identity also involves creating a convincing decor and a welcoming ambience.
Interior designer Ed Poole was asked to fit out EEST, a new restaurant in a five-star hotel. The design had to reflect a variety of Asian cuisine styles as well as have an open kitchen, a large public dining area and a selection of private dining rooms and function spaces.
In a country like Malaysia, which has multiple and sometimes mutually exclusive cuisines, pulling off a pan-Asian restaurant is tricky.
At Eest, newly appointed director of kitchens David King boldly merges Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, and Malay flavors with surprising results: Black truffles lend a luxurious decadence to black cod; kalamansi lime and soy offer a distinctly Asian piquancy; and mustard and miso complement crispy nests of foie gras.
But where Eest really scores is in its decor. Designed by Ed Poole, the restaurant feels Asian without any of the usual Buddha and bamboo accoutrements. Instead, the stunning design, done in leather and shades of red, relies on unusual materials and objects: cast volcanic-ash tiles from Indonesia, giant aluminum urns, and chairs made from woven banana leaves.

Happy Birthday, Colin @ Vincenzo, Bangsar

We celebrated Colin's big day in Vincenzo, One Bangsar ... delicious food, great company and nice wines!

Kilkenny's and Mini-me Kilkenny's at WIP, Bangsar

I like WIP!
Located at Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC), this relaxed and cool bar is located at G111 on the Ground Floor. Tel: +603 2094 1789

Some research material from Wiki ...
Kilkenny is an Irish cream ale which originated in Kilkenny, Ireland. The brand is managed and produced by Diageo.
Kilkenny is very similar to Smithwick's Draught; however, it has a nitrogenated cream head similar to Guinness and has a stronger taste (more bitter than Smithwicks). The 'Kilkenny' name was originally used during the '80's and '90's to market a stronger version of Smithwick's for the European and Canadian market due to difficulty in pronunciation of the word 'Smithwick's'. It now refers to a similar yet distinct beer.
Ingredients: water, malted barley, roasted malted barley, hops, and yeast.

It was Buy One Pint, get one Half-pint free aka Mini-mee Kilkenny!

Some green concoction ordered by Pah-Ku :-)

And on to the white drink aka Lychee Martini ...

Well, that was a recollection of our Happy Hour post-work, on the eve of a Bank Holiday this week!

And then it was time to head on to Colin's birthday dinner ... :-)

Hankook V4ES tyres

A little over RM$550 for each 18 inch Hankook V4ES tyre ... Planted on this BMW E60.

What I like ... Price. Quietness. Wet handling
Why I dislike ... Thread pattern not so hot lah.

And on the putting green ...

My most memorable shot of the day was with my very rarely used Taylor Made R580 fairway metal aka 7 wood ... 137 metres to the pin, slight up-hill and into a breeze ... the ball flew so high, and landed so soft ... but I still required 2 putts ... and par'ed the hole :-)

Pete's very strange golden fairway metal (Taylor Made XR-05 fairway wood) which he was testing out ... as was the set of Honma irons.

Very nice ...

More shots ...

Heh heh , found this rather funny! On the buggy's windscreen!
Had a decent round, shot 51 on the front 9, but stopped after hole 13 on the back 9 due to incoming bad weather (which never really materialised, after a sharp downpour, it stopped ... but Pete & myself had headed back to the clubhouse!). Happy that I had 2 pars (both Par 3s) on the first 13 holes :-)

Esquire Kitchen @ Atria, Damansara Jaya

One of the best restaurant chains, and perhaps the oldest as well, in the Klang Valley. Here's a previous review of this family favourite of ours!

Add: Esquire Kitchen Sdn Bhd, Lot 10-11, Ground Floor, Atria shopping complex, Jalan SS22/23, Damansara Jaya. / Tel: +603 7729 6563

Sweet and Sour Wan Ton (Large @ RM$9.80)

Pork with preserved vege / Sze chuan style (RM$12)
Flower bun (Man Tou) RM$0.90 each

Both dishes were delicious, and one can't go wrong with a bill of RM$31 for some super comfort food! Service was also good, as compared to other visits, as I was there towards closing time (Nearly 09:30pm).

Udon @ Mandarijn Cafe, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Add: 2 Lorong Batu Nilam 34B, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang
Simple udon meal, served in 2 varieities ... a broth variety and a thicker szechuan style variety. Both were rather good!

Japan Pork Chop Udon (RM$8.80)
Claypot Loh Shue Fun (RM$7.80)
The latter looked just like udon, I think the chinese/local variety of udon = loh shue fun!

Iced longan with lemon (RM$5.50) - Refreshing!

Pappa Kopitiam, Bukit Tinggi @ Klang

Simple breakfast at my local kopitiam ...
Add: 2 Lorong Batu Nilam, 21a Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang
Tel: +603 3324 3773

I always enoy the Ipoh Prawn Cicken Kuay teow (Dry curry) @ RM$8.90 ... but the one with fu-chuk may be better.

Pappa Nasi Lemak (RM$7.90)

Orange juice (RM$5.50), and Barley (Which tasted TERRIBLE! EEeeewww...) @ RM$2.80.
A restaurant with better customer service or better trained staff would surely have made a refund, or spoke to the person who prepared the drink, or even (this would be a longshot!) ask us why we didn't finish the drink!

Lexus IS250 - New model

Spotted in Bukit Tinggi, Klang ... so sweeeeet!

Here are some notes from one of my favourite car sites ... Paultan.org
UMW Toyota’s luxury division Lexus Malaysia will be launching it’s fourth model today, the Lexus IS250. The IS250 will go against the BMW 325i and the Mercedes Benz C230 (or whatever it’s equivalent is in Malaysia for the W204), and is expected to account for a third of Lexus Malaysia’s projected sales of 300 units in 2008.
In overseas markets, the Lexus IS250 uses the 4GR-FSE, something that some of you might already be familiar with as it is the same engine in the 2.5 liter version of Naza’s Toyota Mark X. The 2.5 liter V6 engine makes 205 horsepower at 6,400rpm and up to 265Nm of torque at 4,800rpm, rather impressive torque figures for a 2.5 liter engine as usually you only get 100Nm of torque per liter of displacement for a normally aspirated engine. This might not be the exact state of tune that we’ll get in our Malaysian market, so more details will be posted here once Lexus Malaysia’s website is updated.
Expected price is about RM300k, which puts it somewhere at a premium over the normal 325i, but slightly cheaper than the 325i M Sport.

PaulTan.org UPDATE: Here’s the official deal on the car: RM313,166.20 on the road inclusive of insurance gets you a Lexus IS250 with a 2.5 liter V6 4GR-FSE engine complete with D4 direct injection producing 205 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 252Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. This is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shifting and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Equipment includes HID headlamps, vehicle stability control, adaptive front-lighting, rain-sensing wipers, anti-glare rear view and wing mirrors, and of course the Lexus trademark here in Malaysia - an awesome Mark Levinson sound system with 14 speakers.

Ps. Here's a pimped up chromed and tinted version of the same car I found on Google images ...

Ju notes ... To date, I have only ever seen three units in the Klang Valley area, which includes a gorgeous WHITE one in one of the bridal shops along SS2, PJ. I do think many have chosen the BMW 325i Sports (E90) over this particular car, and it will soon be competing against the 'grows-in-your-eyes' C-Class (W204) as well!

Pineapple - Sweet, Juicy ... The best?

Xian's Secret Stash ...
Origins: Unknown
Commercially available: Not yet!

Magnificent! Juicy, sweet, doesn't bite ... quite perfect!! Slurp :-)

Big Apple Donuts & Coffee, Gardens @ Mid Valley

Finally got to take a shot of Big Apple's extensive donut menu :-) There's always a queue ... even at 09:00pm on a week day! Its located at the Food Court (HUGE area!) of the new Gardens mall.

Slurp ... fresh :-) donuts!

Had a bad experience at the Bukit Tinggi / AEON Mall Klang branch , but no problems here at Gardens ... Plenty of Kimochi's available!

Jonker Sweets dessert @ The Gardens, Mid Valley

This little stall caught our eye ... so we had an Ice Jelly Cocktail and Pak Kor Yee Mai (Barley-Beancurd Skin broth) after the DTF (Din Tai Fung) dinner ... Not bad. Came up to just over RM$6, with a free portion of carrot cake (Cold, and simply average).

Ps. Here's a blog of my visit to Melaka ... the real Jonker St! :-)

Din Tai Fung, The Gardens @ Mid Valley City

Din Tai Fung @ Taiwan / Japan / Indonesia / MALAYSIA / China / USA / Singapore / Hong Kong / Korea / Australia

Now open at ... Lot LG-207, Lower Ground Floor, The Gardens, Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, KL
Tel: +603 2283 2292

I had been to the outlets in Singapore (Paragon ... slurp!) as well as Taipei in Taiwan (Even more slurp!!) ... and was excited to try out the one in The Gardens at Mid Valley City ...

The menu and the story of Xiu Long Bao :-)

Xiu Long Bao (RM$11 @ 5 pieces) - Frankly, I was slightly dissapointed ... preferred the ones in Taipei and Singapore!
Personally ... I prefer the one at Shanghai in the Marriott KL

Shrimp Pork Shao Mai (RM$11) - Quite yummy ... again with a soup filling inside, eat with care, HOT!

Pork Chop Fried Rice (RM$14) - With some chilli oil to bring out the flavour, simply delicious ... with a huge portion of pork chop too!

Cha Jiang La Mien (RM$11) - Nice texture to the noodles ... sort of like Chinese Spag Boll :-)

Cha Siew Pao (Pork Bun @ RM$5 for 2 pieces) - Average ... sort of like a tai pao inside!

Drinks ... Hot Water (RM$1), Orange juice (RM$6) and Diet Coke (RM$3.50).

Overall, I was slightly dissapointed ... perhaps it was cos' I had such high hopes for this place. Reasonable though at RM$74 for the 4 of us.

This eatery even has a Wikipedia entry!
Din Tai Fung is an award-winning restaurant of Taiwanese origins specializing in Xiaolongbao (small steamed buns, marketed as "dumplings" in the West). Outside Taiwan, it has outlets in mainland China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States.
History- Din Tai Fung was founded by Yang Bingyi from Shanxi more than 50 years ago as a cooking oil retailer. Due to fierce competition in that sector, it switched to trading in xiaolongbao in the 1980s.
Accolades - Din Tai Fung was ranked as one of the world's top 10 restaurants in 1993 by The New York Times. It has gained renown internationally for its juicy pork dumplings.

Coach launch @ Gardens, Mid-Valley

I shall always remember the Coach launch hosted by Valiram group ... as my Traffic Jam Fiasco Adventure! I left Port Klang at 05:30pm, and took the NKVE , Kerinchi , Federal Highway to get to Gardens/Mid-Valley City ... I got there at 08:00pm!

This was my first trip to the Gardens ... but I just wasn't interested any more when I arrived, quick visit to Coach then straight to the Food Court ... yummmm.

Found out from The Edge Daily that "Valiram Group opening ceremony of Coach at The Gardens, Ground Flr, Mid Valley City" back in November 2007 ... so this must have been a relaunch!

Overseas Imbi - Glutinous Rice Roast Pig

Restoran Oversea (Imbi) Sdn. Bhd.
Add : 84-88, Jalan Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Tel : +603 2144 9911

A true masterpiece of Overseas Imbi .... Loh Mai Chi aka Glutinous Rice Suckling Pig. Yummmmmmmmmlicious! Worth the RM$190 !

Everyone loved the Char Siew ... simply magnificent, though pricey at RM$25 for this little portion!

I felt short-changed, once again, Overseas Imbi did NOT have the Tai Tao Har (Big Head Prawn) ... the sauce was yummy, these little prawns (RM$90 - Prawns are bloody expensive!) were fresh ... but not quite the same as those magnificent signature prawns!

Seng Kuang To Fu (RM$36) ... Simply superb! A signature dish :-)

Kau Wong (RM$30) ... A very interesting and yummy vege!

Our choice of aqua vitae ... Black Label and Macallan! All be-fitting of a special occasion, our 15 year Oldham Hall reunion!

This meal for the 5 of us came up to a princely but yummy ... RM$462
ps - No corkage charge, I like!

Oldham Hall reunion dinner @ Overseas Imbi

15th March 2008 was special ... it had been 15 years (yes, FIFTEEN!) since we last gathered ... Lye Mun, Frankie, and of course Eugene, Vincent and myself, got together at Overseas Imbi for some good food, drink and brotherhood ....

Here's Vincent, Eugene and Frankie too ... good conversation (heated!) over Roast Piggy and Macallans!

Here's the Macallan to loosen things up ...

15 years later :-)

Farewell ...

Klang Palace revisited ... Tim sum lunch

I like the timsum at Klang Palace ... here's another return visit :-) Is located at Centro Mall (photo below) along the Federal Highway (left side as you travel in from KL), as you approach Klang town.

Add: F101 A , 1st Floor , Centro Mall , 7 Jalan Batu Tiga Lama , Klang.
Tel: +603 3341 1263

I remember on my last visit to Klang Palace review the service was terrible, they HAVE redeemed themselves on this particular visit ... but it was a quiet early lunch meal. When I previously went on the weekend, it was just packed, and they couldn't handle the crowd.

The REALLY good timsum ... Siew Yoke (Roast Pork), and Pei Tan Sau Yoke Chuk (Pork and Century Egg Porridge).

The good timsum ... Ham Sui Kok (Char siew inside), Steamed Pork Ribs, Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun, and Siew Mai with Shitake mushroom bits.

Simply average ... Golden Beard something timsum (which had too much fried golden beard bits!), and Carrot Cake with Lap Cheong (but WHERE was the lap-cheong ... didn't see any!).

Each dish came up to RM$6+ on average, and the total bill for the two of us ... RM$67.

UPDATE Oct 2008! Cumi and Ciki writes a review about Klang Palace too!

Big Apple Donuts @ Bukit Tinggi, Klang *BEWARE*

Beware of BAD SERVICE from the Klang (Bukit Tinggi aka AEON Jusco Mall) branch of Big Apple ...

Date: 16th March 2008 (Sunday)
What happened: Asked for a Kimochi (slurp!) , but was told in chinese that it was sold out ... acted blur (like I didn't understand), and was told 'FEEENISH' ... How could they be finished in the afternoon, and not make any more!
Duh ... NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Pity really, I had great experiences before with this place! All my Big Apple reviews!

Traffic meter ... Damansara Utama

No particular reason why I shot this ... just liked the effect of the sun rays peeking through the trees one morning ...

Wikipedia ...
"saman" - to issue a fine, usually in relation to a traffic offence, from 'summons'.

Restoran Choy Kee @ Damansara Utama, PJ

Strictly average breakfast ... Choy Kee, in Damansara Utama. Forgotten how EXPENSIVE pork is these days, that small plate of siew yoke cost RM$4.

Breakfast @ Murni, SS2

Murni is a very popular mamak, but this was probably the first time I had been there when there was still light ... aka in the MORNING! It is popular as a supper joint, when they book up most of the walkways AND car parks along the road ... in fact some diners sit as far away as Public Bank!
Add: Jalan SS2/75, PJ
Previous review of this mamak

Fried mee-hoon (self service in the morning from a counter, which includes kuay-teow, maggi mee goreng and of course ... nasi lemak) RM$2

Teh tarik kurang Manis (RM$1.20) - Newspaper ... my own!
