Mia Palencia ... return to Flo, Equatorial Hotel

Saturday night, 28th July 2007
Mia Palencia and friends (including her little brother) returned to Flo ... for yet another stellar performance!
We had ... Turkey Flat Cab Sav ($150), Evian Water ($11), Haagen Daz Choc and Vanilla ($23 for 2 scoops).

Trendy Station, Klang ... Meehoon and Rice

Trendy Station is located at Bukit Tinggi, Klang ... hokkien fried mee-hoon, yummy fried rice (with just the right amount of lard!) and a bit of lobak (Taiwanese sausage is always on the plate!).

You're Protected?

A Takaful Ikhlas insurance advertisement spotted near The Curve ... Thanx :-) Map!

BMW couple

As seen in Kota Damansara beemer workshop by Anne :-)
Matching plates on an E39 and E36 ... must be a couple! So sweet!

Bukit Kemuning Golf and Country Resort

2nd round in 2 weeks at the same course ... If you are interested in booking, Bukit Kemuning's telephone number is +603 5121 7188 .
A nice course, with rather good drainage on yet another rainy day. Not sure if I want to play there again cos' I got ANOTHER dud buggy! Last week, the buggy could not start, this week the clutch gave way as we were about to chip on, in the 9th hole, GRRRRR!
Only managed 53 + 55 = 108 this time, with poor chipping. Alas!
Had a good time nevertheless with Pete, Jeanette and Ye.

Nasi Lemak @ Village Park, Damansara Utama

Lunchtime ... Saturday, 28th July 2007
Possibly the BEST nasi lemak ... anywhere!
What's good? The nasi lemak is superb, as are the rendangs and currys that accompany it so well. Get an iced coffee to was it down, strong and cold, yummy!
There's a downside? Yes ... the parking ... check out how many cars are swarming this shop!
Interesting? Village Park is operated by a Chinese-Muslim husband-wife team.

Assam Laksa & Char Kuay Teow, Damansara Kim

Restoran Golden Kimwah in the Damansara Kim had come highly recommended, "Best char kuay teow and Assam laksa, even better then Penang" ... I didn't agree! I prefer the Roberts' Char Kuay Teow (this one is a franchisee I believe) at Say Huat in Section 14 (PJ), and the Assam Laksa in Penang was a lot better too! But worse of all ... This coffeeshop serves a weak Barley drink and terrible Coffee too!

Mercedes SLs ... Back To The Future

Spotted in Damansara Kim ... sweeeeet :-)

Lipton v Boh Tea ... The first blind test!

Blind testing begins here ... Lipton v Boh!

I managed to identify Lipton v Boh ... first by SMELL , then by TASTE . I surprised myself, haha ! And I have to say I prefer Lipton :-) which is smoother and more delicate.

Transformers ... The Movie

20th July at GSC, Klang ... I miss the original theme song, the Mutemath interpretation is just ... uh crap! But the film is just OUTSTANDING. Michael Bay did an amazing job with his conceptualisation and execution of the film, bringing our old favourites to 'life'. I know that one of my mates watched it THRICE! Go Bumblebee :-)

Yanna prepared Curry chicken and Stewed pork

Ta-powed dinner prepared by Yanna ... This was originally cooked over a month ago, that must explain why the curry chicken flavour was so 'deep' and yummy ... The mushrooms with stewed pork was not bad as well.

Casa Vino Cellar

Reasonable prices, great layout, and just a nice place to chill with some good vino ...
Casa Vino Cellar @ Lot 158 , 1st Floor , The Curve ,
6 Jalan PJU 7/3 , Mutiara Damansara , 47800 Petaling Jaya.
Telephone : +603 7724 2007
The vino ... A Chilean Reserve Chardonnay, very easy drinking, and reasonable at 71 ringgit.

Squash ... Inside The Curve!

Cool set-up at The Curve ... Some international SQUASH tournament was in progress when I was passing through. Photos below were taken towards the end of Rachel Grinham (the 3rd seed from Australia)'s victory over Vicky Botwright (The English 5th seed) in straight sets ... 9-2, 9-1, 9-0. Go Nicole!

Ikea ... spelling bee? And, a nice Sylvia

Spot the spelling mistake at Ikea! Tsk tsk ...

I always liked the King of Drift aka Nissan Slyvia ...

Tokyo Seafood Restaurant, Selayang

Tokyo Sea Food - 7456 Jalan Satu , Taman Selayang Baru , 68100 Selangor.
Huh? Just head towards Selayang Hospital!
Telephone +603 6138 9312
The damage ... 70 ringgit for some of the yummiest tai-chau food on this side of the globe!
What the choices were ... The 2 signature dishes of Tokyo were (1) Fresh tiger-like prawns with sambal-like (but it was actually minced GINSENG!) sauce ... (2) Pork with Yam in Claypot, flavoured with Dried Chillis (Both dishes were EXQUISITE and VERY INTERESTING!) . And, also had Tofu with Minced Pork which was so good as well.

Yanna's curry chicken et al

OK, it's official ... Yanna's cooking will NOT be rated 'Creme de la Creme' or 'Hall of Fame' again, otherwise she'd cover the entire category! Fine home cooked meal, after a long absence ... so good! Special curry chicken (Those green bits are firey chilli padi), French Beans, and fluffy Omelette. Superb!

Pineapple ala Johor

Thanks Aunty Yung! Sweet but a wee bit fibrous.

Burger Times, Kuching

Thanks for the photos, Michelle ... Gotta go visit Kuching and its cool hawker stalls!

Macau and HK egg-rolls and preserved plums

Thanx for the gifts, mum and dad! Egg rolls from Koi Kei are delicious and the Plums are yummy too.

J&R, Damansara Heights ... Birthday treat!

24th July ... Thanks for the birthday treat, cousin!
Good tomato soup (roasted tomatoes seals the flavours - thanks clever cousin!) , Very yummy (Juicy on the inside, Crispy on the outside ... perfect) Pork Knuckle, so-so overly-rich Caesar Salad, and nice french chocolate cake (What's so french about it?).

Makan Susu!

Anne took this at Kampung Baru Subang ... I like!

And here's another nice '5' with a hot registration plate ... Thanks, Anne!

Ko Lo Mee ... Airflown from Kuching

Thanks Michelle! Slurp slurp ... Thumbs up! Had this for supper early morning today after a long 18 hour workday ...
So good out of the microwave, I shudder in delight to think how good it'd be eaten in situ at Kuching!

Remember my last 2 Ko Lo Mee experiences, airflown from Catland ...
First experience
Second experience
And ... how about the one in Singapore?

Wai Sun, Kepong

22nd July - Dinner

Someone recommended this tai-chau at Kepong ... but I didn't think too much about the Lor Mee and Pai Kuat Wong (Pork ribs), nor the . I did like the Soft Shell Crab and the Fish Cakes though. RM$60+, not cheap. Guess I am back in KL prices ... Sure miss prices in Tawau!
Branch in KL : 19 , Ground Floor , Jalan 9/62A , Bandar Menjalara , Kepong , 52200 Kuala Lumpur (Telephone +6012 328 9033)
Branch in PJ : 3-1 Jalan PJU 1/3 B , 47301 Petaling Jaya (Telephone +6012 283 0323)

Wan Tan Mee supper ... Sg Besi, KL

22nd July - Early morning ... This place is good, not spectacular, but gets brownie points for being opened at all hours of the morning!

Aloha, KL - Birthday celebration

21st July 2007
Celebrating my birthday with the boys, Endee and Uncle Jeff ... CHEERS!

7ate9 dinner, The Ascott in KL

20th July 2007
Don't think much of the food at 7ate9, best stick to the drinks!
We had a very hot (chilli!) pizza, pretty good / strange texture ostrich, duck (which was pretty poor ... very duck-y!), Tiger prawn noodles and some more pasta.

7ate9 birthday celebration ... 500th Blog

Thanks for putting up with my blogging ... this marks my 500th Blog!
Birthday celebrations at 7ate9 in the Ascott, Kuala Lumpur ... 20th July 2007 aka 20.07.2007 ... We downed these lychee martinis at (what else!) 20:07 pm!

Thanks for the Flaming Lamborghini, gang ... damn potent! The piece de resistance ...

Golf at Bukit Kemuning

21st July 2007
Round with Ka, Jeanette and Geok ... good stuff, managed 51+52 = 103 , despite the rain and a wonky buggy! Drove well (My driving, not the buggy - which packed in on the 5th hole just after we teed off!), long-putted well, but wedge-play was off and on. Overall, I feel that the swing is holding together well, and I enjoyed our round. See you guys next week! The course was in good condition despite the wet weather, and the round cost us $125 inclusive of buggy-fees.

Charsiew Soh (Pork Puff Pastry)

From somewhere near Jalan Gasing ... exquisite!

Sun Ming duck and charsiew, Cheras

Much MUCH better second time round ... this has to rank amongst the BEST roast meats anywhere in Malaysia! And the yong-to fu is possibly SECOND TO NONE!! Make sure you order the OIL RICE it is much nicer then the 'plain rice'. My previous review of this place is on May 2007 Trip to this Cheras institution

Pan Mee, Kajang

Don't remember seeing a sign on the front of this HOUSE that serves Pan Mee ... strange location! Stranger that it could be located!! Anyway, it is average ... I prefer the other pan-mees I have tried especially Swee Hing at OUG. Pan Mee Reviews - Click for all my previous reviews!

Kam Ling Seafood, Tawau ... Once again!

19th July 2007 dinnertime

One more time ... best seafood in Tawau I reckon. And cheap too!
Beautiful large prawns, steamed ... Mantis prawns in Salt and Pepper ... Seafood fried rice.

Some coffeeshop in Tawau, Sabah

More lunch ... 19th July .
Good food is hard to come by in Tawau, and you won't find it here!

Aji Ichiban, Tawau (Sabah)

Wow, there's an Aji Ichiban in lil' Tawau ... love them snacks.

Hing Lee Pork Mee, Tawau (Sabah) ... Revisited!

19th July - Lunch in Tawau, Sabah ... Tawau's not the best place for food, so best stick to the 'known' / good-places (which are far in between!) aka Hing Lee!

Nafeesa Briyani House, Tawau (Sabah)

Brunch ... 19th July 2007
Murtabak was so-so ... but 'NASI LEMAK' was terrible. Can't believe they dare call it nasi lemak ... shudder.

Kam Ling Seafood, Tawau (Sabah)

Kam Ling in Tawau, Sabah ... 18th July 2007
Sabah veg (Wish I could get it in Semenanjung!) ... Tofu ... Pork Ribs ... Prawns

Sipadan Mabul Resort - SMART, and SWV too! Mabul

View from Semporna ...

Yay, it's Mabul!

Wow, SWV (Sipadan Water Village) is so darn luxurious ... i was simply a visitor lah!

And this is adjacent to SWV ... Mabul Water Bungalows, part of SMART.

And this is SMART ... Sipadan Mabul Resort!

Stayed at Uncle Chang's but snuck over to SMART for dinner one evening ... $60 was great value!

Diving with SMART in Mabul ... 17th - 18th July ... Quite a radical change , moving from Uncle Chang's Backpackers lodge to SMART ... certainly was luxurious! A very nice BIRTHDAY TREAT!

Meals ... so yummy!

It's my birthday!

On the last day...

Uncle Chang's Backpackers Lodge, Mabul

Mabul ... 14th - 17th July 2007
$50 - Room + Food , and $200 - Three boat dives
"Come dive with Uncle Chang's, where you mix your pee with your dive computer" - Someone describing the fact that we only have one tub, where we soak our WETSUITS together with our camera gear, dive comp etc!
A simple place, but tremendous atmosphere especially as night sets in, when the rum and Tiger starts to flow, with LIVE MUSIC each and every night (check out that drum-set!).

McDonalds, Low Cost Terminal (LCCT)

Breakfast at Low Cost Terminal (LCCT) ... 13th July, before flying out to Tawau.

Funny Ridsect billboard ... Kesas highway

You must have noticed this driving on the Kesas ... haha! I think its funnier by night, largest insect repellent ever?... Malaysia Boleh!

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Mabul diving ... It's my birthday!

A couple more pix of creatures small and smaller from Mabul and Kapalai!

Happy Birthday to me :-)
AND ... my fave little guy in Mabul, Mr Clown Frogfish!

Friday, July 20, 2007

Sipadan ... Diving into the Blue

15th July 2007 ... Diving into the blue, 41.5 metres on my first dive at Southpoint, hoping to catch a glimpse of HAMMERHEAD SHARKS ... but alas not to be seen. Next dives were at Barracuda Point, and Hanging Gardens.
Big stuff is really hard to shoot ... so I stayed at Mabul for the rest of my dive trip, prefer the little stuff these days!

Thursday, July 19, 2007

Mabul ... Muck Diving

Muck Diving heaven ... Froggy Lair, Seaventures and Paradise
Saturday, 14th July 2007
ps. Many more pictures to be posted of MORE diving adventures at Mabul, Sipadan and Kapalai ... as well as Uncle Chang's lodge, Sipadan-Mabul Resort (SMART), more food et al.

A giant frogfish and clown frogfish greeted me on my first dive ...

What an odd couple ...

Yay, it's a Pygmy Seahorse ....

Hmmm, Pirates of the Carribean-Davy Jones lookalike!

And on to a glorious night dive ...

Kam Ling Seafood ... Tawau, Sabah

13th July 2007
Dinner time with Howe, Wen and family ... Kam Ling in Tawau.
Mantis prawns in garlic and pepper (SUPERB!) , Oysters , Geoduck , Sabah Veg (Divine!) , Seabass in soya sauce (Perfectly steamed) et al.

Tawau ... an odd town in Sabah!

Here and there in Tawau ... 13th July 2007

AND, stay away from Good View seafood ... Its' pretty poor! Had a meal there with AB, Sharon, Neomi over Chinese New Year ... EEW! Stick to Kam Ling which is on the other end of the road, much better.

Rasa Sedap ... Not so sedap in Tawau

13th July 2007
Tawau is NOT famed for its foods ... and this place proves it. The wantan mee was BAD (horrible FAT charsiew), the chicken rice poor, and the tofu terrible. Stay FAR AWAY from this coffeeshop, which is located opposite Heritage Hotel in Tawau. SHUDDER!

Pork Mee in Hing Lee, Tawau (Sabah)

Breakies ... 13th July 2007
Besides SEAFOOD, Tawau in Sabah is not famed for many other good foods ... Pork Noodles however IS good. And the best in town has to be Hing Lee according to our local hosts :-) Cooked the traditional way with CHARCOAL, the soup seems to stay hot for ages. Interesting! I like the pork as it is very tender, and the soup ... well it is pork-y!

Cilantro, Micasa in KL ... My birthday!

Cilantro, Micasa Hotel in Kuala Lumpur
Happy Birthday to ... me!

The food ... EXQUISITE!
1) Assortment of bread with butter
2) Stuffed squid with prawn mousse / anchovies / shredded crab
3) Angelhair Pasta with roe and sashimi prawn
4) Foie gras croquette with red wine
5) Pan fried sea bass with a 'green jus' (This was my absolute favourite, wanted to lick the plate! It was smooth as silk ... incredible)
6) Wagyu cheeks
7) Angus steak
8) Earl Grey Tea icecream
The service ... Impeccable
The evening ... Priceless.

Weird!

Always room for wine :-)

Happy birthday ... to me!

More deserts!

And to wash it all down...

When an orange isn't quite an ... orange

The little orange is all the more splendid ... the GI-NOR-MOUS orange is ... more like a cross between an orange (the way it looks) , a pomello (the texture) and grapefruit (the tangy taste!). Nite nite ...

UPDATE! 10am, 12th July - Turned out ... it WAS a grapefruit.
How deceiving, looked like a huge orange!

Santai malay dinner ta-powed home, yummy!

Dinner tonite was from Santai... My favourite Malay restaurant from Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Had the EXCELLENT prawn pasembur for the first time aka prawn fritters, SUPER YUMMY, as well as the regular (and very excellent) suspects... Mixed seafood tomyam, Meehoon Goreng, Nasi Goreng USA, Telur Bungkus.

Car registrations in KL

One of a very hot Beemer, and nope it wasn't a replica. RM$1 million machine!
And, in the second, imagine replacing the 'A' with the letter 'S' hmmm...

How much do you pay for your MILO ?

Place needs no introduction ... Tanjung Mamak, USJ in Subang

Why am I blogging it? I was surprised how much the MILO KOSONG cost ... $1.80 EACH! I have head Nestle may be increasing the price of this household drink, but that is rather ridiculously priced!
The official take?
The Star @ Wednesday May 16, 2007
PETALING JAYA: The price increase of general-purpose wheat flour is the latest for major food items in recent months.
According to sundry shop associations, prices of canned food such as sardines, infant formula, Milo, Nescafe and condensed milk had gone up by between 5% and 10%.

Kogetsu Japanese, Saujana Subang

Monday 10th July 2007
Company dinner ... Welcome David and Khun Russ!
Kogetsu ... Saujana Golf and Country Club, Subang (Telephone + 603 784 0554)
Always a good choice, albeit rather pricey at 700 + bucks for ... Couple of bottles of Kirin beer, Inari sushi, Beef teriyaki, Salmon teriyaki, Chicken teriyaki (Yes, safe choices!), Unagi roll, Unagi sushi, California rolls, Cha Soba, Yaki Udon, Agadeshi Tofu, Prawn Tempura, Vegetable Tempura, and a really expensive 'selection' platter of Sashimi (and another of Sushi!).

Sunday, July 08, 2007

Japanese Sabi Wasabi, Bukit Tinggi (Klang)

Dinner, Sunday 8th July 2007
New Jap place which opened near my home in Klang ... Had to try the Klang Maki (Love the name!) - It turned out to be avocado and soft shell crab with some jap mayo, which was reasonably OK ... The Agadeshi Tofu was yummy, as was the Beef noodles in Soup, didn't quite like the Jap Egg Omellete, nor the Inari sushi.
Overall, rather good value at just over RM$60, and very conveniently located near mine too!

Decanter at Damansara Heights

Sunday 8th July - I usually enjoy the SHEPERDS' PIE at New Decanter aka Decanter 2, but it can sometimes be dry. Today's was so dry that I sent it back to the kitchen, and I was pleased that the Chef eventually got it right ... however shouldn't it have been PERFECT first time round? The Banana Pancake in Caramel Sauce was yummy though, as was the sweet Fresh Orange Juice.

Malaysia International Dive Expo (MIDE '07)

3pm, 8th July 2007 - MIDE '07 in its second year was held at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur ... went along this afternoon to lend support to Ah Siang on his award winning photo :-) WELL DONE, MATE!
The expo turned out to be pretty boring, so I'll stick to being underwater next time!

Tim Sum at Klang Palace

Sunday lunch ... 8th July 2007
Overall tim-sum quality in this rather newly opened place in Centro, Klang was GREAT, and it ranged from good to REALLY GOOD (the Pei-Tan Sau-Yoke Porridge and Loh Mai Kai were particularly memorable).

My first visit to my folks' favourite tim sum place ... Imbi Palace has now opened in Klang ... and surprise surprise, its called KLANG PALACE! Happy Birthday (in advance), dad!

And, look what I noticed as I walked out of Klang Palace ... Heh heh.

Tongkat Ali doesn't compare with these roots!

TONGKAT ALI ain't the real power root ... this is!
The huge tree outside my folks' had to be cut down on World Environment Day ... cos its roots were just destroying everything in its path!

Coco the poser

Rainbow Palace restaurant, KL

Rainbow Palace - 5th Floor, Komplek Campbell, Jln Dang Wangi, 50100 Kuala Lumpur
Phone: +603 2929 646 or +603 2926 408
Where? Located off Jln Tungku Abd Rahman, and positioned near Pertama and Sogo. See MAP below for further details of the institution that is simply known as Campbell.
The occasion? Post-golf makan, and farewell meal for Andrew.
Parking? A wedding was on-going, hence Campbell car park was choc-a-bloc, took over 20 minutes of circling up and down the 6 storey car park to find an illegal parking spot. I suggest one does not take a Waja or any LARGE TURNING RADIUS car into this car park, it's tight!
So, how was the food? EXQUISITE! This place is certainly HALL OF FAME material. See details below. Even the BOILED PEANUTS were good, the 'DOUBLE BOILED CHICKEN SOUP' was fantastic, as was the SEAFOOD SALAD IN APPLE. The layout is very typically 70s-80s chinese restaurant with lots of chinz / gold / reds, but don't let that put you off (Even the Wedding Karaoke didn't!), the food is THAT GOOD!
To wash it all down ... A bit of Swing, and heck a lot of Johnny.
BRAVO! Thanks for the excellent treat, and yes... this place is truly blogworthy. Nuff' said.

The piece de resistance .... Suckling Pig stuffed with Glutinous Yam Rice. $140 of magic! This is damn good. Most of us thought this was the BEST pig bar none!

Most of the gang was full by the time 3/4 of the suckling pig was completed, but I found it in myself to have 4 (or was it 5?) pieces of tasty, juicy, EXTREMELY YUMMY yong-tau foo cooked in a claypot with black bean sauce. The photos don't do the SIZE of these fellas justice, try NOT to order more then 2 pieces per person, they are gia-nor-mous!

Just one more dish, and then to wash it all down ... some mangoes.

Golf @ Monterez - Funnies!

Spotted on 07-07-2007

Golf - Monterez, Shah Alam

Monterez Golf & Country Club - No. 1, Jln Merah Kesumba U9/18,Seksyen U9, Shah Alam, Selangor. Phone : 03-7846 5989
One of the most fun and relaxed round of golfs I have every enjoyed, in this rather demanding (Very narrow, long water carries, and tricky multi-tier greens) course located near my folks' place in Shah Alam. I finally GOT THE MONKEY OFF MY BACK ... and shot 51 + 48 = 99 My first sub-100 score! Cheers Cheik, Jeanette and Andrew!

Ps. Excellent buggies (Rear brake light, Horn) in use at Monterez, all in for Weekend Green Fees + buggy + insurance was a reasonable $99 per person.

ps. Here are a couple of photos of BRUNCH before the big game! Bak Kut Teh at the usual place in Teluk Pulai, at the entrace to Klang town, near Menara Trend (ING-Maybank)

Eaten Alive ... Photo of the Year !

MIDE ... Malaysia's Diving Expo ... CHAMPION!
Well done, Ah Siang!

GREAT night out with a Kobedah Kebab (Rusholme Chippy, Manchester UK), but this is just as good ... Noodles washed down with Milo Kosong!

Zeta Bar ... It's 07-07-07

Celebrating 07-07-07 at midnight!

Vintry, Damansara Heights

Vintry @ Bukit Damansara Heights
VINTRY Cellars Sdn Bhd, 130 Jalan Kasah, Medan Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur
(Behind Jake's / Sri Ayuthaya's / Victoria Station's row in Damansara Heights)

What I liked ... Good mushrooms with roast pork, EXCELLENT roast pork in black sauce
What was OK ... Patrick recommended the Blue Cheese Pork Burger (a wee bit cheesy for me!), decent garden salad, the Australian Cab Sav.
What I didn't ... The girl at the front desk wasn't particularly pleasant when I walked in, but she re-deemed herself with a 'thank you' as I was leaving!
The damage ... Langmeil Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon (RM$118), Caramelised Roast Pork @ 200g (RM$14), Sauteed Mushroom with Roast Pork (RM$16), Green Salad (RM$6) and Blue Cheese Pork Burger (RM$18)

Cakes by Silverbird

A local cake company makes these readily available cakes ... Pretty yummy! Full of orange taste, and fluffy too, can't go wrong with that!

Calamansi with Grapefruit ... The Drink

Refreshing and home made! Kut-chai with Grapefruit bits ... very nice!
As inspired by Red Ginger's (Only difference is I don't get service staff going 'HUH!?' at me, at home!) version ... Haiyah, couldn't find pomello under short notice, but Grapefruit gives it that zest and tangy too!

Durian Ice cream

I may not be the biggest durian fan ... but I sure like this Thai durian icecream! Bravo :-)

Assam Laksa, Eng Ann (Klang)

Lunchtime ... 2nd July 2007
My first foray into ROAD-SIDE ASSAM LAKSA eating! Yummy!
Wasn't particularly cheap though, cost me just over 3 bucks for the bowl! Washed down with some (What-else!) sugar cane juice. Slurp!
