Waffles at Tanjung Bistro Mamak, USJ Subang
Crystal Jade La Mien, Takashimaya (Singapore)
We had lunch at Takashimaya's Crystal Jade La Mien (there are lots of outlets scattered all over Singapore), as I knew this establishment was always consistent. And, it was in fact CHEAPER then the branch in Lot 10, Kuala Lumpur. So ... we had really good La Mien, with spare ribs, with chilli oil, with beef et al ... and I had the fried rice (which was dissapointing, always remembered it to be better!) ... and on the side, there was wine steamed chicken (so-so), and pretty good Xiao Long Bao (I prefer Din Tai Fung of Taipei & Singapore Paragon).
Tung Lok, Tanglin Mall (Singapore)
Another excellent meal in Singapore, this time hosted by Gary and Ester ... cheers bro!
Starter of various finger foods, Scallops, Steamed fish, Mushrooms with Abalone, Seafood broth which was really excellent, Roasted chicken in dark sauce, Long life Noodles ... and yummy Mango & Pomello dessert. This was of course washed down with some Wolf Blass courtesy of Liet and Siow Hooi.
Wah Lok tim-sum, Carlton Hotel (Singapore)
Wedding lunch of Gary and Ester, at Wah Lok in Carlton Hotel which serves ... very possibly ... the best tim sum bar none, in Malaysia and Singapore. Only comparable timsum in my books can be found in London's Bayswater area! My favourite item is certainly the Por Lor Bao aka Roast Pork Bun with Yummy Crust pastry on the top. Exquisite!

Ah Hoi's Kitchen, Traders Hotel (Singapore)
Our two families joined together for dinner, which was hosted by my mum and dad
To-fu and scallops, Herbal chicken, Fish fillet in Claypot, 2 types of Veges, Pork ribs, Sweet and Sour Pork, Har Cheong Chicken, Chilli Crab with both steamed & fried Man-Tou, and various items from the 'Sweet Talk Menu' for afters. Food ranged between good and excellent ... a yummy meal!
Jia Xiang Ko Lo Mee, Singapore
A chain of Ko Lo Mee shops has opened in Singapore ... and it's actually good! Mmmmmmmmh :-) But I still prefer the air-flown version that Yu Ye and Dau brought back for me! Nevertheless, lucky Singaporeans .... :-)
Funny cars in Singapore!

Bagan Hailam ... Fried rice & Noodles, Port Klang
Nice simple starters of fish-cake, stuffed tofu, and very good popiah.
For mains ... EXCELLENT fried-rice with char-siew bits and slices, and average Char Kuay Teow.
Address? These guys have no address! The closest location, are the fishing 'cheating ponds' nearby... , Lingkaran Sultan Hishamuddin Off Jalan Perlabuhan Utara Kg. Baru Bagan Hailam, 42000 Port Klang, Selangor.
Directions? Sure ... follow the photo guide below!
Is it worth the trek? Sure thing :-) A quaint place to makan, with good quality food ... Just make sure you brush up on your Hokkien (Klang-style!) first.
Mee rojak & 'Half n Half' at BPB Cafe, Port Klang

Hock Seng ... a local Tai Chow, Bukit Tinggi in Klang
19, 21 & 23, Lorong Batu Nilam 20A, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, 41200 Klang
Tel: 03-3324 5231
41 bucks for ... Char Choy and Tofu soup, Kung Poh Kai Ting, Signature fried to-fu with minced meat, Yau-mak stir fried.
For tea, I chose 'Char Wong', the king of teas. I think that pushed the meal over 40 bucks! But it was worth it ... really flavoursome tea.
Not cheap, but always a decent meal!

The best ever Char Siew ... Spring Golden, Shah Alam
Roast Duck at Sun Ming, Cheras
137, Jalan Sarjana, Taman Connaught
56000 Kuala Lumpur
Tel No: 03 - 9133 2151
Note: Closed on Tuesdays
Directions: Drive on the Cheras highway from Federal Highway, you will see some shophouses on your left hand side. Turn in when you see the BP petrol station and it is the row of shops in front. There is a Dominos Pizza next to it.
Comments from a diner I shared the table with...
"When eating duck ... Eat bone only, expensive but good"
This dude was obviously a regular, he commented that the restaurant had been in service for approx. 10 years, and was run by a Husband and wife team. Seems the skill was learnt from Hong Kong, prior to setting up the business! Their daughter helps out as well. A WHOLE ROAST DUCK is RM$42-49, and at Chinese New Year, add 10 bucks to that!
What I thought ... The roast duck was over-rated, much prefer the Sze Ngan Chai stall at Petaling Street , and Paramount's famous 'Sunrise Duck'.
HOWEVER, the surprise was ... EXCELLENT yong-tau foo. I had the tau-pok and brinjal, both stuffed with pork marinated with salted-fish. EXQUISITE!

Food Tasting, Saujana - The Working Committee
Here we find the Working Committee hard at work preparing for Gazza and Est's big day ... Chairperson, Vice President, Emcees, Operations Manager + AV Manager + Creative Director, AV Executive, Liquors Executive, Front Desk Manager et al ... Stanley even made a surprise visit home!
Food Tasting, Saujana - The dishes
Sweet Stuff, Petaling Street
Mochi? "Just like the Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year with "Nian Gao", the Japanese celebrate the New Year with Mochi ... a sticky rice cake made of glutinous rice that is pounded into paste and molded into shape."
All it takes is the tin foil to cut the mochi, and roll them in the grounded peanut. There are a few flavours of mochi to choose from (Check out the sign ... Original, Almond, Barley/Melon, Black Sesame, Chocolate, Coffee, Green Tea, Milo OR Ovaltine - she actually makes a distinction between the two! ... Pandan, Wheat Grass et al!). I didn't feel like having any today, but they are delicious, in grinded peanuts and sugar. Delicious, and costs about RM$2 per box. It seems this lady, Madam Tang, has been at Petaling Street for half a century!
Yong Tau Foo, Madras Lane (Petaling Street)
Expensive (80 cents a piece), and I found it rather in-different! Personally, I prefer Ah Koong at USJ, O&S in Paramount and Damansara Utama's (I have yet to blog this place, but Aunty Chooi has taken me there before) version of Yong Tau Foo (YTF) ... but to each their own I guess. Many Floggers (Food Bloggers) find this to be excellent, and the queues of people scoffing down the YTF here ... well, I guess THEY enjoy it!
WARNING! Hawkers in the vicinity have been known to be VERY SENSITIVE to one sitting on the 'wrong table' ... If you wish to order the Madras Lane YTF, look out for tables with disposable wooden chopsticks and plastic spoons.
PS. Very sensitive = Hostile!
Nasi Lemak and Chicken Rice, Eng Ann
The chicken rice ... simply excellent!

Ah Mui / Ming Chun Kee, Section 17 (PJ)
Will definitely pay a return visit as I hear the sweet n sour pork, butter chicken et al are all good!
Dessert at Food Foundry, Section 17
I did prefer the vanilla one from before though ... This one was Strawberries & Cream, and was a bit 'rich'!

Vallance @ Kogetsu Japanese, Saujana Subang
Telephone + 603-784 0554
An always reliable place to have Japanese food, not cheap, but good setting opposite the hallowed 'Snake' (aka Doglegs of Saujana Golf Course, home of the Malaysian Open). Many Japanese businessmen frequent the place, so it must be authentic!
California Temaki ($10), Unagi Sushi ($26), Gyu Teriyaki (Beef @ $22), Dashi Maki ($14), Agedashi Tofu ($14), Cha Soba ($25), Shake (Grilled Salmon @ $22), and Macha Icecream (Green Tea Icecream @ $12)
Grand total of $166 for the 2 of us
Dinner was in honour of Vallance's visit :-)
Sri Siam ... Thai Food in SS2
Sri Siam Restaurant ... Jalan SS2/24, Petaling Jaya
Tel: 03-7875 3076
Tom Yam - Too thick, but rather tasty
Mee Siam - Oily!
Pineapple Fried Rice - Didn't like the taste, and was even oilier!
Sambal Prawns - Prawns over-fried, but the sambal was good.
Pandan Chicken - The saving grace, this signature dish was indeed GOOD!

Redangkalong - Under The Sea
Redangkalong - Above the waves

Lucky Restaurant, Section 17 in PJ
Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee, SS2
Bit of History: Seems this place is a branch of the similarly named coffee shop in Penang, and has been in SS2 for ages now!
What I think of their 'signature dish': Not my fave type of Curry Mee, a little bland, but when one adds the magic chilli paste, it is transformed to something rather good!
Other items: Prawn mee is so-so (Stick to the one in Loke Yew !), lobak is indifferent, and otak is OK. I did like the 'leong-sui' (Cooling drink) which included white fungus, dates and papaya slices!

Bonjuk Korean, Sri Hartamas
Another new eatery! Found this place at Sri Hartamas, not too far from Finnegans. And boy did it not dissapoint!
The Pancake/omellette was healthy, and a good way to start off the meal ... though I think it was meant to be taken as a main course!
The Porridge certainly did not dissapoint. Initially slightly blend, then I realised (Thanks, Andrew!) that I had to mix in all the condiments and 'accessories'. Then, it blows you away!
The Bibimbap was sublime!
The loo was mighty interesting...
Ask for Andrew, he's the Main Man of this eatery, and he'll show you how to eat your porridge (Gotta mix in all the good stuff, ask for as much as you want ... meats, sauces etc). And, ask him about "Why the thin, impossibly difficult to use, silver Chopsticks?".
Ps. What an interesting niche market ...
Healthy + Korean + Porridge ! Now that is what I call a Unique Selling Proposition (USP).

Shun Japanese, Subang Jaya
Petaling Jaya, Selangor 47500 / Telephone: +603 5637 9186
Huh? Look out for SJMC (Subang Jaya Medical Centre), and the adjacent Domino's Pizza. Shun has a large brown-wooden-front, a few doors down. Can't miss it!
The verdict? Actually really good! Comparable with my perenial favourite, Rakuzen.
Details? Wagyu Saikoro Steak Set was exceptional ... Melt in your mouth Wagyu beef cutlets at under 40 bucks? This is certainly 'Creme de la Creme' material!
The Hayayako and Agadeshi Tofu were both excellent as well.
I prefer the Cha Soba at Rakuzen actually!
Service? Rather frustrating, as the waitress told me that many items were NOT available due to the Public Holiday (Wesak Day), and even after taking the order ... Came back and said that one of the items wasn't available!
Excerpt from the popular USJ forum, "My favourite in SJ has always been Shun. A few doors away from Windmill. A real Jap owner Watanabe san and they have been in business for many years. But try to book. Can be full of people and sometimes full of Japanese. "
Vietnamese cuisine, Du Viet (Bangsar)
Add : Du Viet, Lower Ground Floor (LG 8), Bangsar Village, 1 Jalan Telawi 1,
Bangsar Baru, 59100 Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
Telephone : +603 2283 5704
The verdict : Didn't expect much from this 'mall restaurant', but the dishes ranged from reasonable to good!
What I really liked : Wrapped rolls 'Vietnamese chee cheong fun' / Rice Cakes
What was also OK : Vietnamese salad with Beef brisket / Pho aka Beef noodles / Durian Pancake (I prefer the one from Chef Loong at SS2!)
The damage : RM$ 88 for 3 pax
Char Kuay Teow (Halal) ... Subang Ria, Kelana Jaya (SS5)
Directions ... Go alongside Western Digital, turn right and then turn left. Adjacent to the FAM (Football Association of Malaysia) training grounds.
Also highly recommended ... Roberts' Char Kuay Teow , at Say Huat in Section 17, PJ. Fantabulous!
On the way back, passing by Subang Parade, I noticed this WEIRD CONTRAPTION on the back of one of Japan's most popular sports cars ...
Pork Noodles, Kean Fatt (SS3)
Directions ... The shop is located at the shophouses near the Taman Bahagia LRT station.
Claypot Chicken Rice, Restoran 99 in Klang
Another visit to this delicious and consistent Claypot Chicken Rice place, at Restoran 99 in Berkeley Gardens (Taman Kenari), Klang. Good value at 4 bucks per head, but be prepared to wait ... Surprisingly, this time round, we only waited for 15 minutes before the food arrived! Usually, it requires a wait of 30-40 minutes!
As always, we also had some Boiled Soup on the side (One helping of Pork innards / Chee-Chup, and another portion of Winter Melon with Tofu) ... nothing special, but it goes well with the excellent Claypot Chicken Rice!
