How to recognise my car!

In case you ever wanted a lift, here is how to recognise the DogMobile ;-)

Nasi Lemak, Restoran Gembira in Shah Alam

Nasi Lemak for breakies
Restoran Gembira, Seksyen 3 in Shah Alam

RM$2 per pack (Extra 50 cents for a 'Fried Egg' upgrade) ... Sotong, Rendang Chicken, and other variants ALSO available, but I prefer the 'Biasa' ... A sweet version of nasi lemak which is a great way to kick-start the day! However, there have been many 'reports' of Restoran Gembira being inconsistent in the levels of sweetness, but I think it's alright! Pleasant and efficient service, and they serve a mean glass of Teh Ais as well ... very good!

1st September 2006 aka the day after Merdeka Day (National Day)
Check out the photo of my local Indian barber (Located adjacent to Restoran Gembira - RM$8 for a hair-cut, can't go wrong with that!) with his patriotic Jalur Gemilang draped outside ...

Roti Prata at Jalan Kayu, Singapore

Breakfast in Singapore

Thasevi Food Eating House, 237/239 Jalan Kayu, Singapore 799461 Tel: +65 6481 1941

Interesting fact : Thasevi's turnover is almost SGD$950,000 a year
Interesting quote : Manager, Mr Yusoff, "We are a dollars and cents kind of business. A typical prata costs between 60 cents and a dollar, so there is no big money involved.Besides, having other branches will only rob Thasevi of its uniqueness. The identity of our prata is that it is Jalan Kayu prata. Anywhere else and it won't be special anymore."

AND, we even found a delicious Otak wholesaler next door ... At least one can have otak-otak whilst waiting 20 minutes for one's prata!

Prego at Westin KL

25th Aug 2006

Where? Prego in the Westin Kuala Lumpur
More details? The Westin Kuala Lumpur, 199, Jalan Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Wanna call up? +603-27138333
What is it? A multi-level Ristorante Italiano with stone Terazza, with two-level dining outlet overlooks their 'open kitchen' that houses a wood fired pizza oven, pasta counter and rotisserei.
What does it overlook? The vibrant Bintang Walk
What did I have? Calzone pizza
What's that? A calzone is a pizza folded over to close the topping on the inside, and since it resembles a large sock in shape that's what it's called - the word calzone means sock in Italian!
Was it Good? Yum! Moist! Tasty!
What was the best? The tiramisu and the wine ... A 2000 Aussie Shiraz, slurp!

Thailand gift - 60 years on the throne

My colleague gave me a pretty cool gift, a 60 baht note commemorating the same number of years served on the throne by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. What is there that hasn't already been said about The King?
1) King Bhumibol is the world's longest-serving monarch.
2) King Bhumibol ascended the throne in 1946, after the mysterious death of his older brother.
3) He has reigned - holding few defined powers of his own - through 17 military coups, 20 different prime ministers, and 15 constitutions.
4) He has been relenting in his travels throughout Thailand earlier in his reign (and his strong personal interest in rural development increased his public profile and won him lasting admiration)
5) I used to have to stand up BEFORE a movie begins when-ever I went to the local Pattaya cinemas, to acknowledge all that the King has done (items 1-4 above)!

Fishermans Cove at Starhill

As prepared by Chef Wai ...
FISHERMAN'S COVE @ Starhill Gallery Feast Village
181, Jalan Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Tel : 603 2782 3848

I had a mixed selection of starters (I didn't even take photos of the salmon, amazing foie grais and scallops), and for mains it was the tong-sing garoupa (steamed ala chinese @ RM$30/100g) followed by the fantastic apple-crumble with homemade ice-cream. To wash it all down, the $35 a glass Green Tree Yara Valley chardonay was perfect!

Loh See Fun & Hokkien Mee

Mama's Kitchen at TTDI
Had supper after a session at the Driving Range (Bandar Utama) with Ye, Thomas and Est ... very YUM!

Ah Wa, Jalan 222 in Petaling Jaya
A bit of supper ta-powed home for dad (and myself!) from (probably) the BEST hokkien mee in town ... Note the Chef (aka The Dude in the photo below) very carefully placing the noodles in the newspaper-packaging! Then, his mate ('The Helper') slowly arranges the fantastic accompanying chilli/sambal in the corner of the packaging ... these guys are true geniuses!

66, Jalan 14/48, PJ (the corner coffee shop behind the shell station on Jalan 222)
